Thanks 1-Testosterone for the info. Good move by Volvo, but I feel itís still a bit overpriced. Can you point to the information source as well? I did not see any reference to D3 in the Volvo India website.

If the Summum trim is offered for D3, shouldnít it be same as the D5 Summum, except for the engine?

D5 Summun, in addition to engine, has HDC and AWD and host of other security and entertainment (Rear seat entertainment) features.

Still feels overpriced. The XC60 sure is a capable car and deserves to sell well. The D3 should have been priced lower considering the fact that it has a smaller engine and lesser features. Audi played it right with the Q5 when they launched the 2.0 TDI.

In Mumbai, the XC60 D5 & Audi Q5 2.0 TDI costs the same, 50 Lacs on road.

So, I think the XC60 D3 would cost around 40 Lacs on road in Mumbai, which is a good deal when compared to the Q5, save for the snob value & the service network.

The only competitor it has at that price is the LR Freelander2 SE.

S60 is one awesome car. I own a T6 and it is just a masterpiece. though few people know the brand volvo and whenever i say i bought a volvo, the first thing that they ask me is, how many seater. No issue there since volvo positioned themselves as bus makers. But now since the pricing has hit a sweet spot, i feel it will rise the awareness about the brand and we can see more and more volvo's on road.

Nice pricing but assuming this is ex-showroom pricing, then the on-road price of the XC60 would be around 40 Lacs, bang in the Freelander2 territory.

Agreed that the XC60 would give more equipment & features, but when you get a Land Rover for the same price, koi Volvo kyun le... LR naa le?

Yes, the S60 seems a great VFM proposition now though.

Is there a change in the top management or India operations head? I see that OverDrive has been tweeting that the "new Head" is aggressive !

Kau_therock
the official review of the S60 on this forum highlighted the low ground clearance. How do you overcome that on Pune roads? Does the car scrape speed brakers? Thanks.

VW wasn't even around & neither was the Cruze. The only alternative was the Elantra, but even that arrived later on the scene. Product to product, the Elantra couldn't hold a candle to the Octavia.

Those who had owned a City / Lancer / Escort / Astra had a single viable option for upgrade = The Octavia. Of course, the Octavia was pretty darn competent for its time (perhaps more than the Laura is by current standard). Great build, reliability, ride, handling, power and mind-boggling fuel efficiency.

It would be safe to say that the Octavia 1.9 TDi really built the Skoda brand in India. The 2.0 petrol was a dud (in performance and sales).
Also, Skoda was owned by the then third largest car manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen. So consumers would find it easier to trust the marque, given the backing - in terms of are they financially solid, are they going to be around to honor service requirements, etc.
Volvo on the other hand is mostly out on its own, with the backing of some Chinese manufacturer whose name I forget (read, not well known)

Sorry, but I donít think the point mentioned made any difference then. Skoda was an unknown entity in India when it was launched, but caught up nicely by its own merits. Even VW was an alien name to India then.

Volvo was under Ford until year 2010, after which it was sold to Geely Holdings in China.

Last week I saw a bunch of Volvos parked inside a compund on LB Road, just beside the CARS India service centre. I guess CARS India either plans to open a Volvo dealership in Chennai or has just rented out a portion of their yard. In any case, me and wifey had just one thing to say" Tank of Sweden". Even from a distance of 15 odd metres( since we were peeping thru the gaps in the corrugated iron fence), the build quality and the hewn from stone feel was evident. Looked and felt better-built than the other imports. Would buy the D3 if I could afford the moolah.
Wonder when we Indians would start bothering more about safety kits and less about body kits and mileage!

Ah yes you are right, Ford was the owner, but the difference is that Volvo was a debt ridden, money losing subsidiary of Ford which was put on sale in December 2008. Not exactly confidence inspiring for customers, you'll agree.

Excellent pricing IMO, the S60 is a real looker and it's hard to find on the roads too, I can easily see people going for this just for the snob value since it's a bit unique.

I can now dream of owning one of these babies for real. Heck, I wouldn't mind going pre-owned as well, but I know it'll be a struggle to find any up for sale in the used car market. One can hope.

And yes, kau_therock, you owe us an ownership review! Details please, with plenty of pictures too. We want to know your tale!
