wait! now that our MoD has cleared the "Mother of all Defence deals - MMRCA" to the Dassault corp. and the stocks shot up by 20%, and french economy will go up by a huge fold with 20 billion dollar going into their pockets, I am sure, the frenchies(lol not the one you are thinking of! the french manufacturer is wat i meant!) can spend some money back cant they? In all possibility, it could be also due to the JV(possible) with Fiat. Lets wait for a official news

Autocar says something different, they are just moving office from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.

The Peugeot spokesperson also added that the company is not shutting down its India office, but “switching it (from Mumbai) to Ahmedabad as a consequence of its agreement with the Gujarat government.” It is also learnt that the Ahmedabad office is scheduled to be inaugurated on February 1.

Thanks for celaring the air mayankjha. It just shows how the media, in a single stroke, can change the entire essence of the news into something radically different from what's actually happening. I hope and wish that the Autocar statement above is actually the right one.

Top gear and Autocar websites present a different story -

Peugeot here for good - Car news - BBC TopGear Magazine India Official Website

http://www.autocarindia.com/News/288...dia-plans.aspx

Quote:
Interestingly, a statement from Paris and the fact that the company is in the process if shutting its Mumbai office (which has been reported) and relocating to Ahmedabad (which hasn’t been reported) has fuelled the rumours, much to Peugeot India’s dismay.

“There is no going back on India plans,” is what one of Peugeot India’s top management person told TopGear India today. “We have trained Indians in France and they are now starting at our Ahmedabad office.” It must be noted that Peugeot has already bought land near Sanand, Gujarat where it plans to put up a factory to manufacture cars like the 508 sedan, 4007 crossover and going forward even new compact cars.
I guess Economic Times prepared the original article based on half the info!

To clear the doubts:

Peugeot’s India HQ in Prahladnagar! - Money - DNA

“On February 1, we are opening our new head office in Prahladnagar area of Ahmedabad. As of now, a team of up to 20 men have already started working in new office. Very soon, in phases, we will completely close our Mumbai office and shift to Ahmedabad. By April or May 2012, we may have employee strength of up to 150 in the head office in Ahmedabad,” said an official of PSA Peugeot Citroen.

PSA says India factory may face delay.

"PSA/Peugeot-Citroen may delay a 650 million euro ($857 million) plan to open a car plant in India, the company said.
PSA is reviewing the investment calendar for its India project," a company spokesman said on Tuesday. "This may lead to some timetable adjustments.
PSA's spokesman declined to comment on the reasons for the review or whether PSA still aimed to begin production in 2014 as originally planned."

Today's Businessline says that Peugeot is just shifting to Ahmedabad and they will be launching their first entry-level sedan based on M3 platform by 2014, followed by hatch targeting Maruti Swift

Business Line : Companies News : Peugeot eyes Maruti territory with small car, entry sedan

It also says that the sedan will feature a 1.3L tubro-charged diesel engine

So far so good!!

Now that things are clear after official statement, at least the title should be changed if not closing the thread.
BTW good to see they will be here because they have good looking cars for India.

Hmm. Could they be referring to India's national diesel?

That engine is Fiat's master-stroke!
