It is an unfair comparison by slotting a 1.6l engine car with others in a lower segment. Sales of Suzuki Swift speaks for itself I guess....
Palio is a nice car, but it should have been the 1.2l that should have been in contention here.

One will hate FIAT only if he had bad experience with FIAT poor A.S.S after buying FIAT 118 or UNO. The bad resale value creates hatred. For Palio owners they cannot think about buying Maruthi or Hyundai vehicle. For Skoda/VW is the next only choice.

I only wish Palio 1.6 Sports stands its ground and be available till the day Maruti come out with the Swift 1.5/1.6 L and then we could talk about apple to apple comparison's.....

Well, I cannot say Palio 1.6 will stand till Maruthi launches Swift 1.5/1.6. But 2006 Palio 1.2/1.6 will stand and run longer than 2006 Swift. Its built to last long.

I told you earlier as well, it is pretty much sensitive to tyre pressure. 28psi is recommended by Fiat, while most tyrewallas will fill in 29-30, which is 1-2 psi extra. Try this experiment (only experiment),
  • keep it at 26-27. It will absorb any goddamn craters on the road. You basically glide over the road.
  • Make it 28. It will just make "thud" noise over bumps/craters (felt only by driver and not passengers).
  • Make it 30. Real crisp handling with relatively stiff ride (again felt by driver than passengers). Steering just reads your mind.
My personal preference is 30 psi. On highways, I have tried 32 as well, with 5 people in car. It works quite well.

devarshi84,

In http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/199257-post1.html (Indica Xeta/Suzuki swift/hyundai getz/palio sports), you said

The premium hatches have eaten up both hatchback and entry c segment sedan market. they are spacious but easy to drive in the city but which makes for the best hatchback from these
In http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/199908-post45.html, you said

I put indica xeta here coz though it has a weaker engine it still remains in the same semgement as other cars in size and engine capacity. its cheaper so what? Price plays a strength for Xeta.
So what exactly is a premium hatch?

I know RX. My observation is wrt to other cars. I am totally fine with my suspension. But people who have been spoiled by the soft suspension of the Baleno and the Accent will definitely find the Petra's suspension stiffer.

There is one other thing which I have mentioned before and will mention again. The suspension of the Petra feels virtually indestructible. I have never got that confidence in other cars.

Today's papers claim 50,000 Swift's sold in less than a year, any idea if Palio has reached these numbers in the years they have been in the market ?

I think so. there was a time when palio had a 3 month long waiting period.

though it was less than a year of huge sales palio sales must be around 80k is what I believe.

Call it the The Master Blaster Effect!!

@ Devarshi - Who said that Palio losses out on ABS/Air Bag, I repeat once again Palio is the 1st car to have ABS/Air Bags in its segment and still has it on the sports and D.

Edit - On second thoughts Steer did you miss a zero in the Apr 03 - Mar 04 figures?

Nopes - the sales figures qouted are true as per SIAM. And last year, Palio was all ready to drop another digit in the sales figures.

see here - SIAM sales figures

BTW - does anyone over here have a regular subscription for SIAM ??
Perhaps we could get one for Team-BHP as a whole.
That ways we could get the latest updates on car sales from the official source.
