Nah.Took a KSRTC while going..
3pm : Start from Mumbai Central
3:45pm : Vashi
7pm : Pune Station
7:20pm : Swargate
7:45pm : Started from Swargate (Pune)
8:10pm : Dinner stop, around 18-20km from Pune
9pm : Started. Here, Kolhapur was 205km. We did around 175km in the next 2.5hrs non stop when i saw the 30km sign to Kolhapur. I always book the seat behind the driver, and the speedo's reflection can be seen in the window at night. He was always between 95-105.
5:45am : Reached Davanagere, 745km from Mumbai central.

14hrs 45min for a 745km trip. Includes 50min dinner stop, 30odd mins in Pune, 20min fuel stop somewhere on the highway. Avg speed without stops:57km/h. The roads are bad somewhere after Hubli!

Ticket cost: 755 (booked online from ksrtc.in)

Return was on a VRL volvo, 1000bucks for a 1020km trip (Bangalore to Mumbai, but i got down at Vashi, around 990km).

The time taken to reach Vashi (from Bangalore) and Trivandrum (from Bangalore) in a Volvo seems to be almost same. May be thats bcos of the road conditions which are so different.

I also do the same but once it becomes dark outside and lights are ON ,they put the curtains so u have to judge the speed through the window...

Hi all,

I know this is a Volvo B7R thread. I too am a great fan of these beasts. Its fun to sit inside and travel, but otherwise its good to stay away when they are on the road. I had some close ones with the volvos on the Hyderabad Vijaywada road.
By the way hope it will not be out of turn JCBL in joint venture with King Long of China had launced a bus called KL6113, with JCBL doing the body work while King Long supplying the chasis. I had seen one on the APSRTC fleet. But I couldn't take a detailed look as both were driving and crossing each other. Anyone have any details?

Off to Bangalore today. Had an option of flyin from Mumbai (airports are closed in Pune). But i opted for the B7R for obvious reasons - im a big B7R fan!
So its gonna be 1650km in around 42hrs. VRL volvo, booked seat no 1 for both ways. Gonna time it again. Last time we did Pune outskirts to Kolhapur in 3 hrs with multiple toll nakas! thats 220km in 180min or so!

For all the comfort and sophistication that the Volvo's brought to Indian road travel, I am not all for these Volvo's. I prefer the seating in the 2+1 seating arrangement busses, where there is much more space. The Volvo's I have seen are either 2+2, or sleeper coaches.
there is a 2x1 volvo running on the nagpur-pune sector... the name of the bus co. is khurana travels... the used the name, 2x1 executive coach for it.. and the tickets are around 20% costlier... i had traveled on those.. and believe me... its just too good... like the best of both worlds...

Good to see Volvos being discussed here.

OT-Soon we should be discussing helicopters. I was watching extreme machines on discovery and they showed motorcycles. On all time favourite list was a motorbike which has a helicopters engine though on no . 1 was a honda cub - a moped in our terminology.

Anyone has any idea on the prices of helicopters in India ( Pawan Hans at least). Premium cars are more costlier than many such flying machines. Still why we dont see many people buying helicopters - more than 7 series or S class? Is it because of the govt regulations, cost per km etc or something else ?

cyclops:Hans operates 2*1 sleepers between Mumbai and Indore. With LCDs
Eagle too operates 2*1 sleepers between Mumbai and Udaipur, with LCDs
U gotta travel back to back in a non volvo and a volvo to feel the difference in terms of smoothness and sound and yes no jerks.

Most long distance volvos have a 41 seating arrangement, which means loads of space.
