Unhappy Tata's ethics under question?

http://www.business-standard.com/com...t=0&leftindx=1

Please see the link

To be fair, this refers to an act in 1999 at thetime of the launch of the indica. but the judgement has just been delivered.

Talking of Tatas and ethics! Watch the new TV ad for V2 Xeta and you'll talk of Tatas and irresponsible ads!! The film unabashedly shows the Vixen band on V2 merrily straddling the unbroken centreline. Wish the police (moral or otherwise) puts an end to this irresponsible ad...

The line that runs through the middle of the road and divides traffic.

Prabhakar's right, some of these ads seem to be encouraging bad driving. Even the Aveo ad has some very rash overtaking shots.

Tata Motors and ethics? HA!

Hey thanks for explaining that, Boom. In that case, i also agree with Prabhakar.
And to add to this list, the Swift ad also in the end shows the two swifts moving bumper to bumper after the lady says "wanna play?".
Also, anyone remembers the lengthy discussions we had on the forum regarding NK's driving in the Speed petrol ad?

Cheers

Talking about the swift ad... It also gives the impression that with one key you can operate any other swift too!

No it does not The guy gave his keys to get the car. Just then a valet arrives with a Swift that looks like his... He simply takes it and leaves. This Swift obviously had the lady's key but then the guy would not have known that.

By the way Himanshu I have a doubt there... Is the MRTPC order not challengeable? I mean Tatas do have a few points. They said
  1. they had to do it so as to be able to gauge the actual demand by stopping speculative bookings.
  2. they made it clear from day one and people were aware of what they were paying. No one complained ever on that. These three people apparently never booked the cars.
  3. Tatas paid 11% interest on the whole amount. That will include the government levies as well. Till the time the car is not delivered and hence by extension the duties are not paid to the government I guess the entire amount is just deposit earning 11%. Where is the problem here?
I mean, suppose Tatas felt that the speculation could get real high and hence they said that every one will have to pay twice the car's showroom price as deposit at 11% rate. At the time of delivery your car's price will be adjusted out of the deposit and the rest will be refunded to you. Now if someone goes ahead and says that Tatas are charging me the government levies for a car that they are yet to manufacturer and to top that are also asking me to pay the levies for my neighbour's car which they may buy the next year. Will not that be wrong? I feel till the car is not delivered it is a mere contract that should be treated as a deposit at 11% rate of interest. Am I wrong?!! I doubt it.

But what I dont understand is why did Tata ask for sales tax/excise duties, which should be levied after the vehicle is actually delivered? I am sure, the car price itself is big enough amount to deter speculative buyers.

I am just trying to make a guess here... maybe what happened at that time was Tatas took a ball-point figure which was the probable total cost of the car. Probably they were not very clear till then about the exact figures under each head. Remember they were about to start manufacturing. The levy figures are something that need to be ratified by the respective govt. departments before they can be sure. Tatas probably figured that the best way is to charge the cost of the car as deposit and pay the market rate interest on it. That way they were not commiting any fraud. I mean till you have not manufactured the car and actually have not charged someone a cost shown as govt levies it is a plain deposit of a certain amount which will bear interest. Remember they did not "ask for sales tax/excise duties" as you say... but just charged a flat amount as deposit which happened to be the showroom cost of the car. Simple.

Default Redfine Ethics

Well guys , bout those complaining about the TATA Xeta Ad..well here are my Two cents..!

Why does anyone not raise a noise when your news anchors on NDTV/ Times Now are testing new vehicles for you and telling you the story...They don't wear any Helmets while driving a Bike..!

Just today I was watching Times Now program called Brand Equity- Hosted by some John Brady- Big Fat Bald Guy...Showing segments of Bajaj Historic " Hamara Bajaj Ad"..He was driving a Bajaj Chetak almost in the center of the road without any helmet..!

Have you all ever noticed Ekta Kapoor, in almost all her serials never follows traffic rules and norms...Have you ever seen Anurag Basu ( Cezzane Khan) or Mr.Bajaj ( Ronit Roy) have you ever seen them wearing Seat Belts..! and how many time have they been shown talking on Mobiles while driving..Not leave out Tulsi ( Smriti Irani)/Anjali ( Natasha)
Etc Etc....

What about the TVS Apache Ad- Dudes and Dudettes zooming zaping doinf wheelies without Helmets and Gear....!

What about Uday Chopra in Dhoom- No helmet and senseless biking...John Ab was wearing a Helmet for whatever reason at least in most parts...!

What About Abhishek Bachan Zooming on Fiesta without Seat Belt

What About Shahrukh doing that Zip Zap Parking with Gyatri Joshi ( Santro Ad)...!

The only responsible Ad I have seen in the last few months was the Alto Ad in which the models are wearing seat belts and are driving into the Niligri for Tea..The Boonde Mein ad

The other was Amir Khan Driving the Innova...! Wearing his Seat Belt

So if its ethics of TATA being questioned only for The XETA AD..I think we need to redfine Ethics all together...

Thanks Boom... You're dead right about the Aveo ad which is even more objectionable. Speaking about power with responsibility, I can't help recollecting the wonderful BMW ads showing graceful cornering at high speeds but never even once crossing the centreline (sigh)...

@wolf... Thanks, thanks, thanks...! You've dropped all the skeletons out of the industry's cupboard!! Agreed... Tatas have company in Mera Bharat Mahan (reason why they couldn't get along with Rover?)...

The link says that they charged for sales and excise duties in it. It clearly says,
"Tata Motors, however, said that it didn’t anticipate the overwhelming response for its cars in view of other indigenous manufacturers. Besides, its sole purpose of collecting the total price including the excise duty and sales tax was to discourage speculative buyers and get the accurate assessment of the genuine demand for Indica cars."
And if they were not sure about cost, why charge everything? Even token amount of 1L or 2L Rs was good enough to shoe away speculative buyers. I think, they just took a decision(not a fraud though) to take advantage of market.
