I wonder when the used car market will take cognizance of this drop in petrol prices. Ever since the infamous Rs7 hike last year, petrol car prices tanked big time. Actually the entire amount of the hike more than rolled back now. We are down by about Rs1-2 from the pre- Rs7 hike levels. Hope this results in more sane prices for both used petrol and diesel cars.

Some good news...Petrol in my city costs Rs. 62.49 after the three rupee fall in prices since last midnight. Another such a drop will take it down inthe 50's territory and that will not be a bad thing to happen!

Good that the petrol prices have dropped by Rs 3/-. Shall this indirectly attributed to the forthcoming karnataka elections or govts way of diverting people's mind from the present mess they are in. Unless the prices are in the 50's price range the demand for used petrol cars is till going to remain subdued IMO.

Mods - There's already a thread for the official fuel prices, cant this thread be merged into that.

See this post in the Goa fuel prices thread, I think it is more relevant here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post3109890 (Petrol may get cheaper by Rs 11 in Goa!! UPDATE: Prices Reduced !)

If we were to analyse who consumes petrol, I suppose the bulk of it is used by the 2-wheelers (the working classes, lower middle class) and the A/B segment hatchbacks (middle to upper middle class). And the farmer who uses subsidized diesel for his pumpset will fill petrol in his Splendor and Alto!

So, higher petrol prices are hurting who exactly?

Aha, I just thought ill get back to you on this.
I am back to premium fuel.
Follow the chain of events, and tell me what you would do.
Ran the car on regular fuel with system g for about 7tanks, all well.
Next, couldn't find system g so bought some other additive from another vendor. 4 tankfuls later car started choking very badly, so cleaned the injectors etc.
Switched to 2 tanks of premium ,and all was well, then tried regular again, with the same additive , and again the car choked a couple of times. So I switched back to premium for the last 4 tanks.
Today I managed to find system g, so I will try another couple of tanks of regular, else I plan to stick to premium only.
I'm inclined to think that it's that other additive, so just giving it a shot. I can't believe that a mass marketed car would be so delicate, but if it is, I don't mind spending 200-300 bucks extra on each fillup if it means peace of mind.

Premium Fuels do greater benefit in cars with higher compression ratio. The Fiesta 1.6 has a 9.75:1 compression ratio which is about middle of the road. So there should be some benefits with it. Also as the car gets older, the benefits as compared to regular fuel becomes more substantial.

In my older Honda city 2005(NHC), the compression ratio was 10.7:1, which gave immense benefit as compared to the regular fuel. Using Speed(from Bharat Petoleum) gave better pickup and nearly 1Kmpl more FE.

Today I filled up Rs. 1000/- worth of petrol at a HP pump in Sanpada (opposite Turbhe police station). They charged Rs. 78.80/lt. When I asked why it was so high, they said that it was Rs. 80/lt before and has come down to Rs. 78/lt. I am checking the website http://www.mypetrolprice.com/42/Petr...-Navi%20Mumbai

and here I see the rate as Rs. 73.51/lt ...

I also fill at the HP pump on the Mumbai-Pune expressway and there it is around Rs. 72/- ... So, why is it so high in Navi Mumbai? Or is the pump fleecing the customers?

This might be the reason.

While many Mumbaikars are happy with the recent cut in petrol prices, there is no such cheer in Navi Mumbai. Petrol pumps operating in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporationís (NMMC) jurisdiction are still charging around 4.5 per cent more than their Mumbai and Panvel counterparts, thanks to the local body tax (LBT) recently introduced by the state government.

Petrol price again hiked by 1.55 a litre from midnight today. The diesel petrol gap which was coming down has climbed again to around 21 rs per litre approximately in Mumbai. Tank up before midnight if you are less than 2-3 kilometres away from a petrol pump.

Prices up again in Delhi to 70.44. The lowering of prices a couple of month ago (63.01 in May) has been made up by rise in one month. As usual diesel prices remain unchanged.
