The auto expo is back in chennai trade center starting yesterday. Can anyone who visited this time share their feedback? IS it worth paying a visit?

From past "auto expo" experiences, better give this one a skip.

Thanks for the writeup. You saved my precious time to and from the trade centre.

These days the exhibitions at trade centre is more like a family day out and the cafeteria outside makes brisk business during such times charging exhorbitant rates for the fast foods they sell.

Is Chennai still the Detroit of the south.... Why don't we have one of the most sought after auto expo on the lines of global ones... None of the Indian Auto shows would cover these let alone having a dedicated show....

Union problems, Lack of Electricity, Water are quite some of the aspects which are pulling Chennai down from the status it used to have and if this continues, there would be no chance for a Chennai Auto Expo with all global players showcasing their tech along with new launches....

Whilst I understand Govt has too many things to focus on, doesnt it wish/dream of things like these...

Here we go, I am just back from the Chennai Auto Expo 2012.
I spent about 1 hour of my time there and I can clearly say if you are not in the verge of buying a new car there is nothing interesting over there.
Let me walk you guy through what I saw there.

Firstly the entrance was charged. INR 50/- (not worth it)

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0283.jpg

Anyways I got myself a ticket after contemplating on it for sometime.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0315.jpg

The entrance looked good with a registration counter where I had to leave my details (OT: so that they can sell the database for money and all possible companies can trouble me)

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0284.jpg

I walk into small hall with cars parked all around, smaller than what it was 3 years before when I had gone in. Anyways I moved on and the first counter was the Volkswagen

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0286.jpg

Polo, Jetta and Vento

The king of the show was none other than the DUSTER, and appropriately it was on a platform higher
The stall of Renault ( possibly on of the main sponsor of the event )

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0288.jpg

Duster, Scala, Pulse, Fluence and Koleo (personal favourite)

The BMW stall was killing flies and no one was let in anyways

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0287.jpg

Then came the Benz. Everyone were freely moving around all the Benz. some where even getting inside to get the feel of the car. Wow what a machine I should say. So good looking interiors.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0290.jpg

There was a stall by JK tyre (again a sponsor I guess).
You buy 2 tires you get a travel bag free.
I did not bother going near it.

Then came the Skoda. Superb - what a great looking car.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0306.jpg

Superb, Laura and Rapid

Our very own Maruti Suzuki stall was filled with people

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0307.jpg

Dezire AT, Ertiga and Ritz

The TATA's had a big stall which I totally gave it a miss.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0312.jpg

The interesting part for me was what was in the back of these stalls.

Bikes, exotics, massagers, Korean lubricants, tyre punture free kits, bosch washer. I will be back with the details soon.
India tourism stall is connected and free for you to visit, so if you have more time to kill visit that too, may be if lucky a trip might come your way.

They don't want to concentrate on such activities. Where they can get more revenue is the place they concentrate on!

It's not worth even talking about the govt. Chennai can never be the Detroit for the south auto expo.

There was no Storme on display. When enquired they said the launch in on Oct 17. No other info was available with them.

They had displayed Aria , Manza , Vista and Nano only.

I enquired about Punto, they just had few brochure. They did not even have pricing info.

It can better be labelled as Dealership Expo.
It may help for a person who is on a hunt for car and he will get to see most of the brands under one roof in this so called Expo.

rightly said rameshnanda. just got back from the expo and it was turned out to be nothing short of a dealer display. there is a Rolls Royce, an SL AMG, a Hayabusa and a Harley which were supposedly the star exhibits of the show. There are places in Chennai where you can regularly catch closer glimpses of these beauties. I went hoping to check out some accessories exhibits and found none. Ho Hum ! What a waste of time

India gets only one proper expo in Delhi. Our market isn't big yet, to attract world class expo to every city. I'm glad that dealers are coming together to showcase all their models under one roof. Be thankful.

Spend good money on air tickets and accommodation for the Delhi Auto Expo and it would be worth every single penny, fellas.

Everybody needs to understand that this is the Auto Expo organised by The Hindu - Newspaper. I visited this Expo today evening and my points are
1. Renault stall was filled with people, even Koleos had people enquiring about it.
2. Maruti and Tata was full as usual.
3. BMW showed its cars to only potential customers. (Probably one or two customers inside BMW stall)
4. Mercedes was allowing everyone to have a glimpse at their car and even left the cars opened.
5.Exotics like Merc SL, Rolls Royce Ghost, BMW 650i and Merc SL AMG were completely guarded and no one was let inside the stall.
6. Honda VT 1300 CX bike alone in the honda stall.
7. A Harley and a Hayabusa opposite the Rolls Royce stall
8.Yamaha had a modified FZ16, R15 and Fazer
9. Skoda India with Laura, Rapid and Superb (No Fabia on display)
10.Tata Motors had Nano, Manza, Vista and Aria on display.
11.Maruti had Ritz Zdi, Ertiga, Dzire on display
12.Toyota Had Etios, Liva and Altis Diesel displayed
13.Hyundai showcased Eon, i20 and Elantra (All petrol models displayed)
14.Bosch and some korean motor oil was also present
15.Volkswagen group was present with Vento, Polo and Jetta

The stalls at the back got me a little excited.
The star to me were the RR Ghost and the Honda cruiser.
Boy I wish I could own both of them for a few years.

The honda stall was dead. They just put the bike and an awesome video presentation of how their bike metamorphed from start of time.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0305.jpg

But what a machine. It sure put a smile on me and enjoyed all the curves of this machine. Looked like a tough job to ride it though.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0293.jpg

The busa and the Harley was just thrown in another stall. Not very interesting.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0301.jpg

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0302.jpg

The exotics stall was not so attractive. I would love to ride on a RR. Boy that looked like a small plane. Could feel the comfort of it from outside. Envy the owners.

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0299.jpg

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0300.jpg

The others, Jag and Benz

Chennai Auto Expo 2012-photo0291.jpg

The other bikes stall were Yamaha, and Hero.

There was a stall with all sorts of massagers. I tried the car seat massager and that damn thing gave me a sever back ache.

Map my India stall couple of GPS on display.
It was news that they have OE all in one player for almost all cars and its plug and play. No splicing of wires and it can even be controlled by the cars steering remote.Sunny's united cost INR 40,000/-
If opted for without steering control it worked around INR 32,000/-

Bosch washer stall - gave it a miss.

Korean Liquids - some company called EXQ.
They had all sorts of lubes, additives, paint treatments, glass anti-fog spray and so on... There was a video presentation going on.

Puncture free -

This was a very interesting product. I will upload the brochure later.
They fill a liquid into your tubeless tyre and you never need to visit a puncture shop ever again.
The liquid comes in liters. Each Liter costs Rs. 2800
Once its filled it gets coated on the whole tyre and on any puncture the liquid comes out sealing the hole.

I might get this done. It supposedly keeps the tyre cool also.
