Wow! This is news to me. I searched online and found this article: http://www.downtoearth.org.in/conten...ate-high-court

http://articles.timesofindia.indiati...ivate-vehicles

"The Gujarat high court has directed the state government to pass necessary laws to make it compulsory for all four-wheelers registered in Gujarat to convert to natural gas within a year. It further directed the Central government to allot natural gas for domestic and vehicular use to Ahmedabad at the price it is supplied to Delhi and Mumbai."

The order said, "The state is directed to pass necessary orders compelling owners of all vehicles having registration in Gujarat to use natural gas and, if necessary, even at higher prices within the shortest possible period, not exceeding one year from today for the protection of lives of citizens."

Can a court actually do this? Even assuming CNG is in ample supply and all, fitting a CNG takes up a lot of space so what about those people who need the luggage space in their cars? Plus existing cars may lose their warranty if fitted with CNG plus safety issues as already existing cars already on the road may not be designed for CNG use.

What about the vehicles whose engines dont respond well to CNG? For eg: Skoda, Ford. What about the premium cars like Mercs, BMWs? Will we get to see Mercs at the CNG stations in a queue?

I would urge Honda to offer a CNG A/T. Finally we will have something that offers comfort+economy.

Both CNG and A/T are about not sporty/fun driving so why not marry both the technologies.

Honda sells a Civic CNG Auto in the USA.

They are offering the City CNG AT model. Check the Honda Car India website. It has a City 1.5 V AT (AVN) on sale.

AVN(Audio visual navigation) is not CNG version.

As of now, only VMT has the option for CNG. The way they call this out is as;
'V MT (modified)** (new)'

And the cost difference from the standard VMT will be ~60k

I agree, an AT with the benefits of CNG running costs. A variant like this will be well worth the tradeoff in boot space. Incidentally, the City CNG in Thailand is an AT car.
Also the Civic CNG sold in the US is powered by natural gas alone. It ain't dual fuel like the cars sold in Asia.

Does anyone have any information whether Honda is undertaking the modification on earlier versions of All New Honda City (eg the original variant launched in 2008)? Has anyone got the conversion done at the autorised Honda dealer on his City?

You can go for Sequential CNG kit fitment at a reputed place as your car (2008 make) is now out of any warranty that the company offers.

Honda is not taking old cars for CNG fitment & related modifications. Only new S & V variants (Manual Transmission) can be converted to CNG, & it costs Rs.70K for the same. The breakdown of the costs is as follows:
- Around Rs.17K for the suspension modification;
- Little over Rs.52K for Sequential-kit with 70Kg CNG tank (good for 14L capacity).

... &, it takes almost a month for the company to deliver the CNG car. Additionally, as per company policy there is warranty of 2 years & 40K kms; & one is eligible for another 2 years & 40K kms for payment of Rs.7K (approx).

Just to update you SMT-CNG costs little under Rs.10.5 Lacs on road Delhi & VMT under Rs.11.25 Lacs.

Hope this is helpful to you & sundry .

Just figured this out, apparently the City CNG is now also available in the S MT trim and not just V MT.

Sorry for interruption but seems you have mistakenly interchanged the values here. Correct me if wrong, but it should be 70 litres CNG tank that should be good for 14kg CNG capacity.
