Wow!!! 8.6L for C6 ? Are you sure or is it the C8 you mean? Ex showroom prices in Bangalore is 7.1 for C6. I thought it should be around 8L. At this rate the top model should be above 9L.

Bangalore is one expensive place man.

Please check the cost sheet given to you by the Dealer.
In Hyderabad, they add a lot of items calling them "accesories". They add up to almost 40 odd thousand.
Add the the inflated insurance quotes and you have a good dealer margin being paid by you.

Well 9 out of 10 people does not know the weight of their car .

This car is not for enthusiast and certainly 8 out of 10 Bhpian will loath it. Well let me give you an example-

How many ownership reviews we have for Dzire on our forum? Does it anywhere fits in the top ten car list, which if I am not wrong written by GTO. But this is one of the best selling car and best selling sedan by a huge margin. We have Fiat Palio there, We have Lancer there, We even have VRS there. In real world we do not have many takers for these cars as they somehow or other lacks overall practicleness.

An enthusiast think of 1 way- sheer pleasure of drive. If I am in the markert to choose a car to suit my taste buds I will not even care to look at whether it has rear seat or not, forget about the legroom . I would love to buy a BMW Mini, but at the same price point if I have a family to carry around and keeping there comfort in mind I might go for Fortuner.

Maddy

I think you didnt get my point. My point is that this car doesn't have one USP apart from the novelty factor which isnt a USP, if you know what I mean.

Its not the best looking, it doesnt handle well, its top heavy, its not fast, its not the most fuel efficient vehicle in its class, it has got either the depth of engineering or the refinement or the finesse of cars which you can buy for the same price. At 1640 kgs all the engine does is lug the weight of the car around for seemingly no benefit to the end user. A half hearted, half baked effort from Mahindra which is the result of the success they have had with the XUV500.

So for all those who feel Quanto is under powered at 100bhp, I drive a 2.4 tonnish 4wd safari which has got a 90 HP engine and it is more than adequate for city or highway driving. No, you need not plan for overtaking, and I do not usually slot it to lower gear either for overtaking. The pick up is not great but only when it is not in the power band. For a person who knows how to drive a safari, it can outrun many cars on the road. And it goes to 140 kmph easily. Quanto with 100HP and lesser weight, should perform better. In my opinion, it should be adequate for city and highway drives. Obviously, I have not driven a QUanto, so cannot comment anything more than that.

Regarding go anywhere capabilities of hatches, I have personally driven sedans in -25 degree centigrade temperature for a couple of months in icy roads. A FWD sedan with traction control can go to most of the places, even if its icy. That's not the problem. Problem is huge crater (and the recent trend, mud dump in the middle or side of the roads). Problem is scraping the bottom in some roads.

For against the weight of the car, have you ever driven on a puddle of water at significant speed. Chances of hydroplaning reduces drastically with the weight of the vehicle. I have changed my vehicle to a CR-V after a scary hydroplaning incident. Quanto does not tick enthusiast boxes. But I am ready to compromise on the cornering ability at 120 kmph or sudden lane changes and rather drive sanely with a practical car for Indian roads.

Lacking either a comprehensive TBHP TD or a mid term ownership, I don't see the evidence of it being vastly superior to a hatch back.

- Power to weight: Its wiped clean
- Driving pleasure: Its wiped clean
- Boot space: Swift disappears into ignonimous silence while the likes of Fusion match it
- Go anywhere capability: Only 10mm extra GC. That is awesome, but the AVEO UVA had 188mm. 188mm. The Fiat Punto matches it while the swift is definitely behind. Fusion is laughing away at 198mm!!

I refuse to believe that Quanto has any inherent engineering advantages that make it more robust. More weight != More safety (anyone remember the Bel-Air link a week back?)

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...lsar-lake.html (Icy trip to Solang valley, Parashar lake and frozen Serolsar Lake) - 4 up swift went up and came down happily. Done lots of other things as well. Of course, no vehicle is immune to stupidity or bad luck - but hatches aint bad these days.

Mind you the pleasure on highways is NOT just about top speed but roll-ons, which every single one of us loves to forget. I'm willing to wager the ginormous weight of the Quanto will keep it a slacker in the roll-ons and will enable the sedans/i20s of the world to drop it like a rock.

Of course, I am more than glad to be proven wrong if Mahindra finally gives me a test drive, or TBHP does their own. At the moment, I believe its been given far more credit than due. In no less part due to the rear mounted spare tyre that many folks offline found "sporty"!!

And of course, I hope the quality is up to scratch and customers aren't glorified guinea pigs as you can expect in a new launch of the Tatas. (the XUV itself had a fair share of niggles)
Not sure about how Quanto's GC is measured, but even Scorpio has a GC of 180mm only, and i guess you understand, the difference between a UV's GC and a Hatch's or Sedan's GC,SX4 with 190 mm or Fusion with 198,does that make them more capable than a Scorpio 4X2?,and that link of yours, there is a difference in just making it through the roads in one piece and comfortably doing it,and on bad roads of himachal,i would anyday prefer a Quanto over a swift,at least i wouldn't have to stop and stare at each and every boulder on road, and check,if it will scrape or not,and not to mention you need to notice the overhangs in quanto, and in gear acceleration figures are decent,in fact better than a few vehicles in its price range.

And why compare it with fusion?,its extinct like the dinosaurs. There is no competition at the current price point of a Quanto, buyers looking at hatches wont give quanto a second look, and some one in the market for a Quanto, wont give a second look to the swift.A Niche has been created by the quanto, its only the price that matches the premium hatches, nothing else and mahindra products have always been known for their utility and not for their quality.

I guess you meant Ex. Showroom.

On other thoughts, reading some of the posts above, I would like to say that the very fact that we people are members of TBHP indicates that we have an inclination / interest towards understanding cars. Hence, the logic mentioned by many here (including me) will be based on rational thinking.

To a layman, say my dad for example, he will just be looking at space, AC cooling, comfort for 5, mileage and costs involved.
Pickup, Driver-oriented-car, performance are things that will probably never occur to him.

Hence it is likely that teh actual Quanto buyer may not be looking at the product in the same way that we do.

Looks really cute, a kind of a blown up WagonR with the stepney on the back, I had a chance to TD this vehicle while at the M&M Showroom to TD the XUV5OO.

Seems to be exactly the same as the Xylo, no difference at all except the length.

The handling was pretty ok but I am not sure how it will fare on the highway at high speeds and in mountaineous routes.

The interiors are well appointed but there is a fair amount engine noise creeping in the cabin and the engine is not as refined as the mHawk.

But overall a VFM product, seems to be another winner for M&M and a definate competition for the Duster and the upcoming Ecosport.

Some pics attached.

Anybody knows what's the kind of booking number received so far? Also anyone who has booked it as recently as yesterday/today, what's the waiting period quoted?

I don't know how many of the T-bhpians will agree with you on above point. IMO if we classify UV's in A B C D segments (like cars) then Quanto will be in A segment - compact UV - like rio, whereas Duster will be A+ or B segment (based on premium price and handling) with Ecosport.

and BTW I don't know how much more we need to wait for T-bhp review .

According to the dealerships of Delhi, they have received around 3.5-4000 bookings and the waiting period is 3 weeks to 1 month.

Well have you taken the test ride of the vehicle. Even if not your post gives an indepth analysis of the vehicle. Appreciate your knowledge and verdict.

All I am saying is that by no means it's a car for a Bhpian. Neither anybody upgrading (downgrading I must say) from a B+, C, D segment will appreciate the value of the car. It's no way a car for a person who want anything more than commutation. But a peson coming from an A, B segment background will feel he has moved to a bunglow from a 1BHK. Car is an upgrade from them.
Honestly speaking how many of we Indian know that much about a car. I bet many don't even know what torque is and its function (not talking about Bhpians). Adding to that not many takes decent long test drives, a half km one , (showroom guys also don't encourage longer drives, and surprisingly I have seen people obliging). Many buy the car without test drive- just on the looks and brand value. Add to that- once you start driving the car, you get used to it and comparison only comes when you switch the ride.
We often complain that salesman doesn't know much about the car but he knows only what is asked by the most consumers. Questions are- Engine CC, Mileage and upto a certain extent BHP. Compare it with Duster and Ertiga on below counts and you have winner at your end.

OK, I checked out a production Quanto today. Just for everyone's benefit, these 2 people sitting at the back are 5ft 10 and 5ft 11 in height. And their knees aren't touching.

Name: qu.jpg
Views: 3522
Size: 33.3 KB

Nor did the door foul with their seating when the door was closed.

First impressions are as follows.

Likes:
1. Interior has lots of space.
2. 1st row has good supportive seats alongwith separate armrests for both driver and passenger.
3. 2nd row is the place to be due to its wiidde bench. A cabbie will easily fit 4 people on the middle bench.
4. The NVH is definitely lower than Petrol Polo (not comparing with Diesel which has even higher N). It is hard to tell if the car is idling when you are outside standing next to it. Definitely the most silent 3cyl car in the country.

Quirks:
1. The driver side arm-rest touches the gear shifter in 4th. At least it feels like that at first. But thats when you realize that the armrest goes further down and then the shifter doesn't touch the armrest.
2. With the armrest down in its lowermost position, it is very difficult to buckle/unbuckle the seatbelt. But apparently that can be managed (as told to me by the guy who learnt to drive on a Quanto, an M&M engineer of course ).
3. Only 1 oops handle for the 2 jump seats.
4. Plastics can definitely be better, but they are not much worse than those on Entry Level Sedans.
5. There is a huge gap in the rear wheel well and the rear tyre (almost as big as the one on Scorpio). But turns out, thats the amount of travel the suspension has (goodbye bad roads!)

Was in a hurry so didn't TD. Maybe I will do a TD on the production car and compare with the pre-production car in a few days time.

Edit: There will soon be a C9 and C10 version of the Quanto.
