An auto magazine had posted a similar looking car from which the Classic was ripped off. There were no visible differences in both the models externally. I wonder why Maruti chose that car to clone.

That time Retro was in around the world. Hence, Maruti wanted to cash in on that, so now we can say that it was a Normal production "Limited" edition car...since its gone flop!!!!!

I think we need to keep different yardsticks for different cars.
Certain cars are decidedly niche-oriented, even the manufacturer does not expect to sell more than a few hundred a year!

For example, lets take the Chevy Forester and xTrail. Both of them are CBUs, even their manufacturers were purely experimenting with the market by launching these cars. So in that sense, I wouldnt really call them flops! To extend the movie analogy, think of them as Art films solely intended for Film festivals, awards and TV screenings. They shouldnt be compared to mass-market, economical offerings like Versa, Palio etc.

There was also a Standard 2000 - it just faded away - in the 80s I think - true nimbu pani car ( or as my teacher would have said - a lemon of the first order)
If you venture into a small gali in Agra ( my hometown) u will still see one parked - saw it still there a few months ago

I completely agree with you on this. As far as I remember, Fiat then had a records booking for the Fiat UNO.

My money is on the Cedia. Sad though, the car really looks good in black trim and would probably sell more if the price drops and if they do something about the front styling
