By the way i have seen the pics its not at all impressive. I am still fan of the previous zen. The one before the present model.

Have planned to buy zen but model was changed, and i am not much impressed with the present zen. So finally i baught Swift vxi

Default Zen replacement

IMHO, The MR wagon would be a good replacement for the WagonR, and the Zen should be replaced with a much more sporty small car. We would have too many tall boy models in this case.

Default The new zen might be here sooner then you expect!!!

Just snapped these today. I think it is the new zen from maruti. It seems maruti is pretty much done homologating the car. These cars had maruti badging at the rear visible underneath the taping, also the windows have glass marked "maruti".

Isnt it going to eat into the sales of the WagonR? or will it be positioned as a Bigger tall boy to beat the U-VA? And with an Diesel option too I guess.

Yeah, yesterday's The Hindu also had a pic which said "New Zen" and resembled what IMP posted above. Looks yucky to me, atleast in print. Another tall boy in the MUL stable ? Isn't this taking things too far ?

Looks a lot like the Matiz with Swiftesque headlights in flesh.

It looks like a cross between the wagon R and the Matiz. The Zen charm was lost when they stopped production of the old model. This one is too boring. i wonder where Maruti will position it though

Great pictures

THanks for the pictures IMP! Maruti might position it alongside the Wagon R with pricing along the similar trim levels and pricing. Heck, it looks similar in dimensions too. They also might share engines. People can buy whichever shape they like more (or hate less).

EDIT : That looks like the ARAI parking ground alongside. (From the rickshaws.) . I was there today morning, but didnt bother to check there .

I paid a little visit to ARAI a while ago, where the Zens are being kept. The interiors seemed of good quality, far better than those on the WagonR. Dimensionally similar. Styling is overall quite feminine, IMHO. Comes in colours like purple. Tacho is optimistically marked to 10,000rpm. Rear legroom does not seem much.

Good find IMP. This is indeed the previous generation MR Wagon intact from Japan.

I am pretty sure they will retain the Zen's 1.0 engine. (same strategy as Swift)

Next year we will see some hot action in the A/B segment with
  • New Spark
  • New Santro
  • New Zen
  • Wagon R Duo (still kinda new)
  • Indica Dicor

Neat pics IMP.

I have never understood Maruti's strategy :
800 should have been replaced by - Alto - should have replaced Zen.
Versa should have replaced Omni
Baleno should have replaced Esteem
New Zen should have replaced WagonR

MUL's R&D is just for namesake. And so is strategy and design.
It continues selling old-generation vehicles by rechristening & rebranding new ones. Poor us.
