It has to be Maruti Ertiga for me for opening a new section altogether with it's packaging and pricing. Excellent ground clearance, seating, driving character (both highway and in city), safety features, and VFM pricing - 90% of Innova at 70% of it's price.

Renault Duster was a worthy contender but lost out mainly due to pricing of it's security features laden version.

Guess it would be Duster all the way considering the way it opened up the fortunes of Renault in India at the same time exposing a whole new VFM option in the 10-12 Lakh Budget.
@ GTO/Mods,
Can we have second and third preferential votes as well please with less weightage compared to the first preferential vote? With many Indians now open to the idea of having multiple cars in their garage, feel that we (Team BHP) should give it a due weightage. If its unrealistic request then please do ignore it

Voted for the Duster. Renault has finally earned a breadwinner for itself. It has opened a new segment for compact soft-roaders as I call it.

Default Voted Ertiga

I have voted for Ertiga.

For me it was a close call between the Duster and the Ertiga as they are the real game changers in their respective areas.

Duster lost out for me as I think the mid to top level variants are tooo pricey with very little kit to offer.

Ertiga in that way, is priced better.

Just my personal view.

Cheers

It is Renault Duster for me. Not just because I own one. This spawned a new segment (look at the sales) which other manufacturers were slow to get there.
Ertiga is spiritually there but lost out on the looks front.

Voted for Duster. This is the car that has created ripples in the market! A perfect "cross" between a car and a SUV. Also, the time of launch was just perfect.

Its a pity that Ford has not been able to launch the Eco Sport even after showcasing it in the Auto Expo!

Duster for me. A lot of people call it the hatch on stilts, but that's being quite rude. Its a car that ticks a lot of boxes in an average buyers list. Renault A.S.S. is a catch still but, as a car, it is the ONE.

Voted for Ertiga, has been a trendsetter, slotting in between B class hatchbacks and Innova.

One very capable car which has got shadowed this time by the Duster has to be the new Elantra. I feel that its a wonderful product which loses to Duster only because the latter created a new segment of its own and signle handedly put the company on the profit charts.
Otherwise the Elantra brings so much to the table:
1. Radically different looks from all the other cars in the D segment. It really looks futuristic.
2. Loaded to the Grill with features.
3. Multiple variants anf very VFM pricing.

I expect it to cannibalize the D segment to quite some extent and become the segment leader just like its cousin Verna is doing in the C segment.

The Duster is my choice for the Team-BHP Car of the Year!

Given that over 50% of the votes have gone to the Duster it does seem to be everyone's favourite. If I was in the market for an SUV the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport would be it. The Duster is a bit too spartan. In any case i do not off road unless you include the pot hole ridden Western Express Highway as "off road".

Given my more urban lifestyle I am really looking forward to seeing what Mercedes offers as their Indian version of the B-Class (MUV). Given that this information is limited and availability suspect it really cannot be considered as such.

The Elantra is THE market leader in it's segment (the XUV 500 is not a car it is a SUV) and other than the Duster is the only 2012 car leading it's segement. The Duster (like the XUV 500) too is only doing do because it is an SUV marketed as a C2 segment car. The Duster, Scorpio, XUV500, Fortuner, Endeavour, Pajero, Rexton etc.. dont really compete with sedans do they? I mean do you consider a Fortuner vs a Camry (or does the Camry only really compete against the Accord, Superb and Passat)?

Hence in my view (including only sedans and hatchbacks ) the Elantra is really the only 2012 car leading it's segment. Hence there is where my vote goes.

Duster is a clear game-changer, no car in any segment has been such a revolution... the sales are good too.

I would have voted for Safari Storme even if I am the only one to vote for it. I have never followed the tide and mass appeal never appealed to me. My vote goes for Storme's road presence and sheer comfort for the long distance.

Renault Duster by a huge margin.

I wanted to buy one for a long time having seen it in European streets and burn the charts. I lacked the Vitamin M and hence settled for Honda Jazz and am loving my hatch. However, everytime I see a Duster on street, I still want one. What a brilliant looking car.
