"Maruti Suzuki has released its annual report for 2015 Ė 2016, which includes a brief summary of plans that the Indo-Japanese manufacturer is working on for the future.

As expected, the company will introduce new models, full model changes and minor changes (facelift) to existing products in the future. Although they havenít revealed the complete pipeline, the new models are expected to be the Maruti Ignis and Maruti Baleno RS, while the Swift family (Swift, Dzire and Ertiga) will jump to the next generation within the next two years. Cars like the Maruti Ciaz may undergo a facelift next year.

The report also states that Maruti is prepping their current as well future product range to meet upcoming safety regulations and emission norms. Most of Marutiís products already meet BS4 emission norms, while airbags are being made optional/standard in all products, so as to meet Bharat NCAP standards that will go into effect from 2019.

Maruti will also introduce new platforms for the future product portfolio. The new platforms will focus on better strength and crash protection levels, whilst being lightweight for better fuel efficiency. The Baleno is the first of Marutiís products to feature such a platform. The report also confirms that new technologies in lighting, interiors and exteriors will be introduced as well."

I really wish they design the Dzire independently from ground up. The compact sedan segment cars have all started looking much better now, especially the Figo Aspire and the Xcent. With such high volumes that the swift and the Dzire command independently, I think it will justify economies of scale if they build it up from ground up very differently. Engines, interiors and other parts are anyway common, so there will be benefits for sure.

Diesels for small car looks to be on hold! The 800cc engine from Maruti Suzuki will not continue to be seen in PV, but the 1.5L engine project continues.

Most manufacturers might shelve the plan for diesel engines on small cars. Story continues with TATA, Honda and Toyota as it will be a challenge to meet the new emission norms.

That's a good news for me, atleast. That weird-sounded motor should not be fitted in PVs. Suzuki's planned 1.2L 30cyl Diesel? I don't have hope.

The best thing they can do is use the Fiat 1.3L engine in another de-tuned state, say, 50-60BHP.

This may be a 7-seater extended Brezza, IMO. Instead of another 5-seater in the Brezza platform, a 7-seater will add more value.

But in that case, will the platform remain as that of the current Brezza, or shift to the new light-weight platform as mentioned in the article?

What about the international Vitara that was rumored to be launched here next year?

Would this mean the MJD might be dropped? Not so great news for Fiat...

Who will they source the new diesel engine? I think downsizing the 1.6 MJD will be their best best (the power figures quoted is around that).

Maruti creating a product to poach sales from Creta, Hyundai creating a sub 4m SUV to poach sales from Brezza - What a circus!

It's a loosely written report otherwise. See the below statements mentioned in a span of two paragraphs.

Quote:
A new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and maybe even a 1.4-litre diesel engine will power it

By then, Maruti will be ready to get the 1.5-litre diesel engine on its SUV

Maruti Suzuki embarking on its strategy to to launch 20 new cars by 2020 , chalks out details for India.

Vitara Brezza and Baleno are launched with Baleno being tweaked for the Indian market. Likewise most of its range will need to adapt to Indian customers.

On Further plans,

Quote:
Suzuki has 11 new models of minicars and A-segment hatchbacks lined up for launches – but all of them for the Japanese markets. Bhargava said Japan’s minicars are small, adding, “They are very powerful, they have turbo-charged engines, they are costly high performance cars.”
The Indian customer, on the other hand, doesn’t want smaller cars – they want more space, a lot of features, but at a lower price point.
Ciaz to be replaced by a new Ciaz? Suzuki plans 3 cars in the C segment space,

Quote:
the Ciaz sedan will have to be replaced by a new Ciaz or something else. Suzuki has three C-segment cars planned, but that segment is small in India.

Long while ago there were talks of a 7-seater wagon-r, the one that was displayed as a concept in Indonesia. May be the Indian version of the Solio will be 'indianized' with an extra row of seat along with minor tweaks to the engine. The already high selling wagon-r would surely garner even further sales with the addition of an extra row of seats.

I had an opportunity to speak to the owner of Maruti dealership here, and as per him, Ignis will be launched in early January with deliveries starting in February. Baleno RS might come with launch in March followed by deliveries in April. The Ciaz is also going to come with 1.6 engine with maybe a few tweaks like DRLs, some body kits etc. The Ciaz is being shifted to Nexa soon, maybe with launch of 1.6 which may come in only one variant. He also said that chances of Vitara making it to India is less as of now considering Maruti is super stretched with production of its blockbusters. All this is as per his talks with higher ups, I'm not sure about its authenticity.

This looks like a 5 seater WagonR, the one down below, Solio looks like a 7 seater.

To be called Grand Vitara - A seven seat SUV or the Vitara S?

Quote:
Under the Nexa brand, we expect Maruti Suzuki to offer an SUV above the S-Cross which should compete with the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster. With no news of any such car as yet, we expect that the new SUV might make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.
