I have an Etios and a Corolla 2007 and I find the Corolla steering to offer better grip (thinner design) and more precise feedback. Etios steering is thicker and lighter.

I would be keenly interested in the new Corolla but considering the sticker hike expected, it could reach 20 lakh for the top end with AT and leather seats. At that price, there is a better option in the Fortuner (so it costs 23-25 lakh). I bought my Corolla AT in Mar 2007 for 12.

The Malaysian Corolla is 2.0 liter as per the photos posted.

In terms of equipment and features list, the Koreans (Hyundai/Kia) are giving the 2014 Corolla and Civic a run for their money.

The Koreans are better equipped in terms of features than Corolla and Civic.

Toyota could have done more with its Corolla but chose not to, which will hurt them.

4 Speed AT is a very much a let down even in the 2 liter engine!

Just a correction. The Malaysian corolla does not get a 4 speed AT. The 2.0 and 1.8 both get a new 7 step CVT transmission.

Even in India the Altis has been running with a 7 speed CVT since 2012.

The 1.8L Dual VVT-i is definitely down on power when you compare it to the 1.8 TSI but 140PS is still not that bad with no turbo and no direct injection.

Even though this is an all new Corolla, the engine and gearbox is carried over from the outgoing one. But the older gen received this engine and gearbox only in 2012.

The only huge disappointment for me is the suspension which for a premium sedan continues to be a torsion beam.

My apology that I should have mentioned its 4speed AT in the UAE for its 2.0 liter engine.

Yes, corolla still without a rear independent suspension points to that Toyota still is not catching up with the civic and wants to keep the cost of corolla on the lower Side and still charge premium in our country.

is it just me? or has Toyota done an average job with the dashboard. i10 and 20 seem to have better ergonomics and aesthetics.Just look at the misplaced hazard button. Current altis has a clean, symmetrical dashboard with various buttons and edges correctly aligned. This is the reason I didn't like the new city's dashboard as well.

These are extremely disappointing interiors by toyota. Compared to the competition this looks incredibly spartan.

considering i used to own the 2009 Corolla Altis. these new interiors disappoint. the exteriors look great but interiors are really bad. looks like toyota has ethos-fied it a little bit. they should have stuck to downsizing the camry interiors like they have downsized the camry exterior.

My god that interior is horrid up close. I saw it earlier and didn't have such a negative disposition but now i have to say thats terrible.
The quality looks down a few notches and i really feel that the design belongs to the 90s.

I just picked a current model altis and got a 1L discount. Assuming a 50K or more hike for new generation, as of now, I am thinking that I did well to get better looking interiors for 1.5L less. Altis is on discount now, so this might be a good time to buy.

The interiors are very so so. I have booked a Honda City Petrol and was just waiting for the Expo to see the Corolla so I could decide between the two, but now if the interiors are going to be like that, I am not sure.

Is it just me or the Head unit looks like a after market integration and the carbon fiber type colour scheme does not look that good. And what's up with the Digital clock in between the AC vents, that looks so back in the day.

We will get beige, I am sure so do not know how this will look in beige. Honda City is looking more VFM at the moment.

Looks great but why would I pay 16 lacs for a Corolla when I get almost all of it for <13 lacs in a new Honda City?
