I don't mean to offend anyone, but 7000 bookings in two months is not such a big feat I guess. If I'm not wrong, the Hyundai Fluidic Verna got around 5000 bookings in a week after its launch and there may also be even faster records. I think this is Chevrolet's new marketing trick to bring in more buyers.

Assuming these are figures for March , in which case then its a very positive trend. The Feb sales analysis posted here show a figure of approximately 2000 for the twins combined , so this then reflects a 100% increase month on month almost another 2000 added.

I took a test drive of the Sail diesel yesterday. Main highlights:
- good pickup and a slick gearbox. Felt a touch slower than the Swift Diesel but that was probably the more linear power delivery
- the clutch is a bit harder than the Swift Diesel (1500km old vehicle so dont know if it softens with time)
- ride quality on broken roads much better than the Swift but not as good as the Verito
- Very silent cabin. No noticeable engine noise or rattles. Quiter than the Swift
- Interiors are well put together but dont look as good as the Verna/i20 etc. I personally dont like so much beige though
- Found the feature set adequate
- The back seat is roomy on legroom. With the front seat full back, my knees didnt hit the seat in front (I'm 5'11''). Headroom is a different story though and my head touched the ceiling .
- The backseat is overall roomier than the Swift/DZire

Overall, it seems a competent vehicle at a decent but not really outstanding. For me, the rear headroom is a big negative and may take this out of the running.

Saw a Sail in flesh (or metal!) for the first time today!

First impressions...

Looks compact and extremely proportionate. The styling up-front, while nothing spectacular, is quite classy in an understate manner. And just loved what they have done at the back. That tail-lamp cluster is the best-looking of any car out there... IMHO

The car I saw was in Black, which I don't think does full justice (no differentiation of the grille portion, even with the chrome strip (which I am liking on a car for once!)).

The car appears distinctly under-tyred though. I think an upgrade to an appropriately wider profile is a must do.

[quote=ariesonu; My friend took delivery of his, supposedly first, white Chevy Sail in Mumbai few days back and brought her to my office. [/QUOTE]

Can you please post an initial ownership report? I guess it should have clocked about 500+km so far and how is the initial feeling of the car? I think everyone will also appreciate if you can create an ownership thread related to SAIL sedan.

Seems the car hasn't managed to invoke much interest here, is it really that boring or just another middle of the road 4M saloon!

I haven't seen much of this car on road too. On paper the specs. look OK but guess Chevy has gone wrong with Features list & pricing. Specially after Amaze launch, the car is looking rather heavily priced.

This is exactly my worry here. On paper as well as review wise the car is pretty decent. But somehow GM is not being able to deliver the vehicles. If only after two months since its launch if you fail to see a single vehicle on the road but the manufacturer boasts that it has over 7000 bookings, you smell that something is not right. IMHO before this motorcycle-esque body styling on cars started by MSIL and Hyundai, all cars used to have smooth outer shell and people were happy with that. Also not that other cars have phenomenally better interior design either. Just totally beats me the response from both the GM and the regular buyer. I am seriously missing something here but do not exactly know what.

Today there was an Ad about Sail sedan and they were boasting of 8000 bookings(Is it different from 8000 sales? ) Could this also be true that people who book later cancel as well. What stops them from saying 8000 happy owners

I too find it strange that while Honda has managed to hog the limelight and Ford is still doing so much drama about Ecosport.. many people dont even know that Sail sedan exists !!

Bad marketing by chevy.. They should have launched the sedan first !!

This makes me wonder what is indian buyer really want, It is not just VFM or space or maintenance assurance or brand(chevy is a nice brand isnt it)

I haven't seen a single Sail Sedan. I suppose they are boasting of "Bookings" as they didn't do the full scale production of Sedan after the lukewarm response to the hatch. Well, the Sedan turned out well, but they don't have the cars to be delivered! I hope Chevy don't find themselves in a sinking boat with the Amaze and huge waiting period. Potential buyers may turn off to Amaze, may be.

I have seen few(not many.. just few) But it surely is not catchy as it appears very narrow and skinny Tyre too take away any road presence.

Interiors are not that bad. Looks not that bad too. Basically its an average car with almost no publicity by GM.

Spot on friend. They should have launched the sedan first, and made some noise while doing so. They could learn a learn a lesson or two from how honda launched the Amaze. If you compare the Sail and Amaze ads, chevrolet has definltely shown Sail as just another car. Whereas the each Amaze ad points out on a new feature whether its better mileage or spaciousness. The chevy ad does not tell anything about the product just showcases it. Now its not that great an eye catcher for that sort of an ad.

The Indian buyer is not very technical about the car they want something safe for the amount of money they put in, or something premium. Chevy had do to do something special to grab peoples attention. They priced it ok, but then with the Amaze variants priced equal/ lower they will have a tough time explaining people why they should buy the Sail over the Amaze.

And I wonder how a customer reacts after GM reduces the price of the car (sail hatch) they just bought by 25K within a few months. Wont the customer feel cheated??

Yeah GM didn't do many TV spots but it is advertising rigorously in the web! In my case, I've not come across a single Newspaper ad but I've come across many many internet ads. Regarding the Sail looking boring, trust me guys I've seen a Sail Hatch in Black and Red and it is striking! Seriously, even the rear of Sail Hatch is acceptable in this colors. On the other hand, I've also seen one in Platinum Metallic, it looks downright ugly. I've also seen a Metallic Brown Sail Sedan(Demo Vehicle) and it is top end. The car looked very complete and mature unlike the toy-ish looking dzire(no offense) with all those liva like bumper mouldings and kiddish grille.

Anyways, where is the TBHP Review? *ding*

OT: As the Sail launch has gone for a toss, I wonder what Chevy India is looking forward to bring here?

The Sail Sedan on the road... And a TBHP Review of the same... Both are conspicuous by their absence!

My friend cancelled his booking for the Chevy Sail sedan petrol as there was no sign of delivery even after one and half months.
Why do they boast of so many bookings when they cant deliver. With the Honda Amaze coming, the Sail sedan seems to be an extinct species already. Sad for a competent car.
