Here is the link to ACI's online magazine preview. You should be able to see the article on S-101 in the 2nd page.

From the little that we can make out from the image, this really looks like a proper built-from-the-ground-up design, unlike the hideous Quanto. I hope they pull an XUV with this one too and knowing Mahindra, this might just have decent space too.

Could be two versions on offer. People who want a 6 seater could opt for that config & a 2 bucket seat config for others who want it.

A 3 seater front row seems good to me as at least a kid could be seated in comfort there. Just days back I was thinking of those Ambys which could seat three at the front.

Thanks for this link.
From the artistic representation looks like its sure going to be as lovely & on the same lines of SsangYong Korando.

Good going Mahindra. Hope the front end comes out as a good design & not as overdone as the XUV.

Being a Monocoque construction this baby SUV will have east west engine and G Box arrangement, and they will also incorporate the 6 speed, so the width cant be less that XUV 500, and in that case putting Gear lever on Dash gives you lot of space for 3 seats ! and Indians loves extra seating capacity !

Right move I would say !

So will it have three airbags up front?

I just received my internet copy of ACI on the ipad and there it is in all its glory!
Stretching the imagination a tad, it does have something Audi Q3 - esque about it!

Ahh, a good point to think. I was wondering how a 3rd seat belt would have featured, skipped about the airbag. Do the airbags have standard sizes? I guess curtain airbags spread wider, could that be used to cover two passengers on the left side?

Well, otherwise this is a good opportunity for Mahindra to do some R&D and come up with an innovative solution!

Very interesting scoop by AutoCar!

The S101 does look good from most angles. The side profile loses it a bit, but the wheel on rear is fantastic.

Having enough hints in the design about the bigger brother XUV5OO is actually a good thing as it would bring in the association with a successful vehicle. People who think that the XUV's front is overdone, would appreciate a much cleaner front. Some would still complain about the one whisker. Really happy that they didn't attempt chopping the XUV and create something as beautiful as Frankenstein.

The wheels look awfully small for a 'SUV'. Trying to squeeze in a 6th passenger on front-seat is an intelligent move. At the same time, it might backfire and slot this vehicle in MUV category.

Overall I like this. My guess is that this would also sell well. M&M is on a roll!

It looks great, unlike the quanto! I highly doubt the Rs 5 lacs price tag being talked about, with Quanto unable to match that, 2 years down the line, it is going to be more difficult with a product being built ground up.

I don't understand the obsession with 6, 7 or 8 seats. What many family buyers will want is a 5 seater with great legspace and bootspace and not those puny jump seats which cut even the 2nd row legspace.

Now, have a look at this piece of article and picture

SsangYong developing a new crossover to take on Duster and Ecosport

Cartrades.com reports that SsangYong Motor Company, the South Korean subsidiary of leading Indian Utility Vehicle (UV) manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra, has decided to bring out a new compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on the similar lines of Ford EcoSport. A cue for this development was taken from the Seoul International Motor Show, where it was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lee Yoo-il, who also said that SsangYong's LIV-1 premium SUV concept would be going into production. The company's LIV-1 concept was also showcased during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Default SCOOP! More pics of Mahindra's sub-4 metre SUV

More pictures of Mahindra's offering in the sub-4 metre SUV segment (codenamed S 101), have emerged on the facebook page of auto website Motorvikatan.
One of the snaps shows a Hyundai i20 in the background, giving a good indication of the size of Mahindra's latest. The heavily camouflaged SUV was without front or rear bumpers. The new SUV would sit below the Quanto in the Mahindra range.

Full details on the S101 at this link.

Are we sure this is an SUV ? Looking at comparision with i20, this looks just like a premium hatch back. (So does EcoSport isnt it)

And yes, it somehow resembles that SsangYong concept. Which looks good

Will this run on some SsangYong engine or M&M will try their in house 1.5ltr that powers the quanto. It will be a beast since this SUV will surely be very light(easily by 300-400kgs)

So can we expect a 2014 launch ?

All these "mini SUVs" do resemble a hatchback, primarily due to the length restrictions they have to comply with: <4 meters, which also happens to be their target segments.

Agree. That concept does look nicely proportioned. Korean companies have made some giant strides in product maturity since the past decade to the point where one wonders if the Japanese automakers might have lost their relevance somewhat.
