Folks who have utilised those magic seats on the previous Jazz love the practicality it adds to the car, especially in combination with the already large boot. There's no doubt that space and practicality are inbuilt into the DNA of Jazz (any generation), and the magic seats are an important constituent that enable the realisation of this genetic trait.

Please check the pic in my earlier post - the version with fixed head-rest also gets magic seats feature. So, Honda may provide the feature across range but lower variants getting fixed headrests and VX getting adjustable ones.

Hmm, probably they moved the handbrake to left to accommodate armrests in the Japanese version. Indian verison follows same design in spite of having no armrests. They should al least have given us the armrests

Haha Nilesh, Magic Seats will not threat i20 much - IMO, it will be a threat to Jazz itself if it was not provided. Since every informed buyer knows that the previous version and international version gets this feature. This is one of the USPs of Jazz and if missed in the Indian variant, will definitely negatively impact the Jazz. If present, it can be a good differentiating factor compared to other cars and will definitely help Jazz. You know, people like to have features in their cars - even if they dont use them much.

The front seat sure can be folded down (and the headrest removed) for the rear passenger to relax his/her legs on, but what about the rear seat itself? They don't have adjustable headrests (neck restraints) and even the backrest's split feature seems to be missing (from what I could make of the picture). So it remains to be seen if the rear seats have the magic functionality on lower variants.

The top variant does get the full range of magic functions, though.

Yep, a front arm rest would be an excellent comfort feature to have, more so on the automatic variant(s).

The real threat to i20 from the Jazz would be if Honda choose to equip even the lower variants with a driver airbag and ABS.

I hope Honda do offer a driver airbag and ABS as standard on the lower variants. This would force Hyundai to finally do the sensible thing and make at least a driver airbag a standard feature on the Era & Magna variants of Elite i20 and the base variant of i20 Active. It may even force Maruti Suzuki to offer a driver airbag (and maybe ABS) on the base variants of their upcoming YRA premium hatchback. The end result would be beneficial for every premium hatchback buyer in the form of better safety on the lower variants.

Premium hatchback buyers are usually quite well-informed. I don't know what companies like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki were thinking when they chose to omit features like airbag(s) and ABS on lower variants. I really appreciate Volkswagen on this aspect, as they made two airbags a standard feature on the Polo (even if the move was prompted by that G-NCAP test).

ACI review already published. I thought there was embargo till Saturday

http://www.autocarindia.com/auto-rev...ve-392123.aspx

Also as per following IAB report, VX variant comes with 16" alloy wheels. That is brilliant

http://indianautosblog.com/2015/06/h...variant-181029

City like beige and black interiors look good.

I've been holding my right-grade plans in anticipation of the new Honda Jazz, but a CVT AT on a 1.2 L oil burner appears insignificant to challenge the 1.3L pot on my Esteem Vxi (which incidentally completes 10 years soon).

I'm now hoping the Diesel MT VX does a better job at insulating the noisy Earth Dreams engine compared the to City.

Autocar review clears things up:

Magic Seats limited to only the top variants.

Rear seat underthigh support not adequate.

Middle seat cushioning is firm and not very comfortable.

I now seriously hope that Honda offer a VX CVT variant also.

I guess the BIGGEST news of all from the ACI review is the Jazz i-DTEC's gearbox. They have confirmed it will be the 6-speed unit . Please see below.

The 2015 Honda Jazz (3rd-gen)-jazz_diesel.png

This is a wonderful move by Honda.

I will take the IAB report of 16" alloys in VX with a sack of salt. The pics they have shown in their report is V variant (has beige interiors).

Autocar review confirms that even the reclining backseat is restricted to top variant. This is a bummer as I was keen on the SV or V variants assuming similar level of kit as in the City. Now the wait begins for the official launch and pricing to decide whether I need to stretch to VX.

Seems the embargo till saturday is only for the engine specs. Will it be too optimistic to expect Team BHP review over the weekend?

Not sure why Honda is preventing the talk about engine facts and figures till Saturday. It is not as if they are introducing a brand new engine or configuration.

Having said that Autocar seems to be treading a fine line. Pretty much giving away all the information
  • Same diesel unit from the City (Is there a chance that they have detuned it just a little bit?)
  • Same petrol engine from the old Jazz and current Amaze/Brio. Again, only open is if they have tweaked the output. The driving impressions does not seem to indicate that.
  • 'Belt and Pulleys' AT. Clear pointer it is a CVT. And looks like the 1.2 brings out the 'Rubber Band' effect of the CVT that the City's 1.5 engine is able to mask.

Initial impression from the review. A good addition to the premium hatch segment, but nothing to go wow about.

Since the Amaze gets the engine in the same state of tune, why would they de-tune it for the more expensive (than Amaze) Jazz?

Thanks for the links. 16" alloys are becoming the norm in the premium-hatchback segment, starting with the Punto Evo, Elite i20, and now the Jazz. Wish the Sedan club wakes up - most of the C segment is still stuck on 15"ers. That said, the profile of the tyres will be interesting, especially with those 175 section tyres

The side crease seems to be identical to that of the City, which is not a bad thing. That last pic makes it look like the Jazz has an egg-like silhouette.

Indeed 16" alloys are a welcome move by honda. But this ride at least needs 195/ 205 section tyres. The tyres and wheels in the current state looks puny and won't do justice to the ride quality, considering the rear end shape of the car.

I am really happy that honda is offering the 1.5 diesel with 6 speed box and exciting color options.

Another area of disappointment is no push button start. Honda should have gone all out and it could have eaten i20's market share like anything.

I truly welcome the black interiors. Looks much better than the boring beige one. Looks like the Jazz has most ingredients for a successful model with pricing the one that would eventually decide its fate.

IAB has posted a huge gallery of photos of the Jazz from the Media Drive event in Goa, covering the exteriors and the interiors of the car and it's 3 variants (petrol, diesel, AT) almost completely and in full detail.

Exactly! Not having a fully loaded automatic option does not make sense & some of the missing features are actually useful
