I'm not a big fan of the new E-class' looks, but even I have to admit that the white car with the black roof (first pic in post #3) looks really good. The all-black interior also looks nice. The front three-quarter view is the worst, IMO.

Personally, i don't like this face lift. I think the E has lost some of its German-ness, that understated elegance. I know I'm might get some hate messages for this but I would even go as far as calling the front of this car Korean with its excessive flowing lines . And how could they get rid of the the quad headlights that have come to DEFINE the E-class.

Mercedes-Benz introduces 9-speed gearbox.

Quote:
Mercedes-Benz has added a new nine-speed automatic into its line-up as standard equipment on the E350 BlueTec sold internationally.
The new in-house-produced unit, known internally under the name 9G-Tronic, has long been mooted for selected Mercedes-Benz models.

Much has been written about the facelifted E class but for a diehard Mercedes enthusiast its extremely difficult to accept that the iconic Mercedes radiator grill and bonnet star has vanished.Remove the bonnet star and even a child would recognise a Mercedes, remove the star from the middle of the grill as on the new cars and it would look like any run of the mill sedans, nobody would take a second look. Imagine a Rolls without the Spirit of Ecstasy.

Always hated the cheap, tacky aftermarket star in the middle grill of Taiwanese/Chinese origins first available for 123 and 124 series and now Mercedes copies it !!!

Please check out pictures from the net of the facelifted E class with the traditional grill and bonnet star, awesome looking cars. These are available only in certain markets. If the new design is intended to rope in the younger generation,so be it, they could atleast offer the traditional grill and bonnet star as an option, I would'nt mind paying EXTRA, to make it look like a proper Mercedes.

Cheers,
SG

2014 Mercedes E350 CDI is launched in India at Rs 57.42 lakh

Quote:
The E350 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 265PS of power and 620Nm of torque. The E350 CDI, says Mercedes-Benz, can manage to sprint from naught to 100kmph in 6.6 seconds. Visually, the car looks more or less similar to its other two siblings, save for the new multi-spoke alloys and the 350 badging.

There are additional features though, like rear seat entertainment, 360 camera, parking assist, adaptive lights and a higher resolution screen COMAND infotainment system. Safety tech includes the Pre-Safe systems, eight airbags, adaptive lights and attention assist.

Looks like it comes without the AMG trim while the International Models are offered only in the AMG trim.
Looks classy as always.
While it lacks the sporty looks it makes up for it with its list of safety features.

Cant agree more with you mate. After you posted the picture of the E with the bonnet star I looked around for it on a recent business trip to Denmark/France and had a good look twice. The car looks regal with the dignified looks we associate Mercedes with. In my opinion the new E-class's looks have become too sporty and too young.

There are safety reasons which forced Mercedes to stop providing hood emblems.

The hood emblem increases risk of injury to the pedestrian in case of collision. So car manufacturers who have been providing such over-the-hood emblems had to redesign the emblems with some flexible mechanism. For example adding springs at the bottom of the emblem so that emblem flexes/collapses in case of collision.

So Mercedes had stopped providing bonnet star emblem in most of the countries because of complicated design and additional expenses involved in it. Then there are complains of car emblem theft and replacement cost turns out very expensive for the car owner. So its better to keep the emblem design and mechanism simple and safe in first place.
