Thank you for the post, PPS! It looks like Motorbeam have managed a great scoop!

What is obvious from the pictures is that the wheels are NOT 13" ones, at least on the ZXi variant. They look suspiciously like 15" alloys, though they can also be 14-inchers.

If they are 15" wheels, then I suspect the car could also come with the K12M engine, in addition to the K10B. It could eventually replace three models - A-Star, Estilo and Ritz in Maruti Suzuki's hatchback portfolio. It looks like we have yet another car from the MSIL stable that makes it to the top 10 on the monthly sales charts.

Another positive is the solid, protruding rear bumper placed relatively high - it seems to offer decent protection for the rear tail lamps and hatch.

The car looks really nice and will turn out be a good replacement for the Zen Estilo and A-star. For Maruti this car was the need of the hour.

But another big disappointment would be the waiting period, I still recall when the Kizashi was launched, I was told by a leading dealer in Delhi that the demand for the car is so much that you may have to wait for 3-4 months. On the contrary, the situation was completely other way round.

This made me realise that sometimes the dealers create a pseudo waiting period just to ensure that they make the most out of new launches and no one thinks of asking for a discount or freebies.

While the car does look neat, I am sceptical about the automated manual transmission. This may be only slightly expensive and more efficient than the manual, I presume it will pose problems during bumper drives and pulling out of limited parking spaces. If I am not wrong, this is effectively a semi-automatic setup with the manual clutch mechanism taken over by electronics/hydraulics. Do we expect Maruti to provide both the option of automatic and a sequential (manual) shift?

More observations about the car:

1. Improvements over the A-Star
  • Beige Interiors
  • Bigger Rear Windows
  • Larger rear windscreen
  • Design likable by all

2. Changes over the A-Star
  • Proper shaped cutouts for front foglamps
  • No bulging headlights - was useful while parking
  • Pull type handles
  • Integrated blinkers on ORVMs

3. Others
  • Car is too tall for making a CS. *fingers crossed*
  • No rear foglamp placeholder - Ritz has one
  • Maruti seems to have taken notice of the problems with the A-Star and corrected them all

Not typical Maruti behaviour - replacing 3 models with 1 - or are they going to get Swift a step down and introduce YRA above it?

Car looks really cool in these set of pictures. Looks like it is bigger than outgoing Estilo. I hope it will have rear leg room like Wagon R. Overall design looks tall boy only. Seeing the alloy wheels and Z version, i guess they are launching it between Ritz & Wagon R. I hope they will bring it with AT version as well. Surely this car will try to steal customers from Brio, i10 twins, Liva, etc. Wagon R may also get affected. Maruti needs to price it well though.

If it is caught in Budh circuit, then I am pretty sure some media review is going on. Mods, was Team-BHP invited?

Looks like a nice replacement to a-star, though the rear resembles like swift.

The positioning of this car would be crucial, I hope they don't overstretch it and spread it across the a-star, estilo and Ritz range. It's made to replace a-star and estilo and that should be it. Nothing more.

Motorbeam have managed to scoop interiors pics of the production spec Celerio. Here are these:

Sure looks a lot like the interiors of a hyundai car, hope they do match the built quality too.

Especially that shape of the dashboard. Parts sharing between Celerio and old i10!

When I first saw the console, this is exactly what came to mind. The "clamshell" shape of the instrument console is just too familiar and similar to the one found on the i10.

On the whole, the interiors seem to be well laid out. The black-and-beige colour combination has been done tastefully, and practically too - the areas that come into frequent contact are black, which avoids them getting that soiled look very soon. The dash top is black to minimise reflections, and the passenger airbag has a separate enclosure, which should reduce replacement costs. As with any Japanese car, I bet the ergonomics are spot on and the driving position is comfortable for 99% of the users.

The rear seat legroom doesn't seem to be that great, but again, this is a tall boy and so the overall comfort and ingress/egress is bound to be good, like on the Ritz and Wagon-R. The tall seat back is most welcome! It's surely miles ahead of the cramped A-Star and even better than the Estilo, the two cars it's going to replace.

This looks like a VXi variant, as the steering does not seem to have "airbag" embossed in it. Normally, Maruti Suzuki provides the automatic only in VXi trim with the addition of ABS. This "automatic" might be the first-in-India automated manual transmission, after all.

The music system looks like an MGA 2-DIN unit fitted by the dealer, as opposed to an integrated factory-fitted system. This should mean the audio unit is not standard on the VXi variant. This points to a value-for-money pricing, which is certainly welcome!

The Team-BHP test drive is eagerly awaited!
