What works for the Swift and Dzire in their respective segments, will actually work against the Ciaz in its segment. That's how the market behaves.

Yes, the Swift and Dzire are the leaders in their respective segments, and as someone already mentioned, they are almost the default choice for many buyers in their segments.

However, in this segment, it has got to be the City takes the position of being the almost default choice for many buyers. Look at how quickly the new City took the crown back, despite having fewer engine options than the Verna, no variant with 6 airbags or rear disc brakes, and no diesel automatic.

If the Swift and Dzire have created and cultivated a massive fan following in their respective segments, it's the City that has done the same in its segment. Dethroning the leader of the C2 sedan segment has got to be a very, very difficult task indeed.

I'm sure the Ciaz would sell well (much better than its predecessors like the SX4 and Baleno before that) but I don't think it is going to dethrone the City anytime soon. Even if the Ciaz comes with a very value-for-money price tag, it will be left to tussle for the second spot on the podium with the Verna, with the City remaining unshakeable from the top spot.

Could anyone list down the extra features (with respect to City) that may come in the Ciaz? I don't think I read about those anywhere!

Customization is possible from the lowest varaint. Ciaz is speculated to offer ABS as optional for the lowest variant.

Can this source be really believed?

S Cross and Ciaz will have the differentiating 1.6 between them.
So, I guess Ciaz will first test waters with the 1.3 MJD and only as a mid life upgrade be plonked a 1.6.

Looks like a good way to backout from the earlier scoop that the 1.6 will come at the time of launch.

OT: When did this gaadiwaadi site start? Hearing it for the first time with these Ciaz scoops, and looks like they are located close to the MS factory.

So I called up Vitesse, Worli (Mumbai) to get some news about the Ciaz. They politely refused stating that the car will not be in the showrooms before the end of September/early October.

The same day, a friend of mine - who is in the market for a new sedan - heard from his good friend - also a writer for Autocar (take it with a pinch of salt as this is second hand information) - that the press drives are scheduled in the first week of September. To be precise, around the 3rd of September for Autocar. Hoping to get more information on the engine specs and features in the next two weeks.

Cmon, I would NOT even think of any of these as a better feature! Seeing the initial pics, I do NOT think there will be a touch screen audio - the unit looked more like a VW/Skoda unit.

How much more leg space than Honda? Not much I guess. So they (Maruti) better be careful if they want to charge a premium against an established product in the segment. I kinda feel Honda will still have an upper edge on FE numbers (along with those power figures).

It's ACI who's going all guns blazing about the 1.6L MJD.

This site has been there for some time I guess. But I doubt anything so credible has come from their side yet.

IMO, Autocar India's initial report on Ciaz's engines seems true with the expection being they confirmed it to be from Fiat. The same is the case in their report on S Cross.
