  • The windshield washer nozzles on the bonnet looks out of place.
  • Elegant Chrome Grill.
  • Specially designed tyres. (Although need to admit the Alnac 4Gs are good!)
  • Door beltline ornament.

Typical Maruti PR system at work here!

However, quite surprised to see 'footwell lights' as a standard accessory!

Pleasing looks, and pretty well-loaded on comfort features, which could really be the selling point in this segment. But safety references are limited to just two points:
  • ABS & EBD
  • STECT for superior passenger safety (what is STECT?)

And probably a 'segment first'
  • Invisible airbag marking on dashboard for Superior Asthetcis!

Forget what it stands for, but basically it represents the use of a lot oh high tensile steel to form the monocoque chassis which makes it more rigid. Another added advantage is lower weight So now you know why its light and you neednt really be worried about it.

What is "invisible airbag marking" ? Is it weird that i want it? I know its going to be maruti talk for some pretty useless, basic thing, but still :P

Sx4 which has a kerb weight of 1275kg with a width of 1735mm and length of 4500mm vs the 1730mm ,4490mm for the Ciaz. How did maruti shave of 105 kg for roughly the same dimensions? Sx4 had a solid planted feel to it when driven on rough roads or on undulating highways will Ciaz loose that because of this weight reduction? Interesting fact Tata zest with 3995mm length and same engine weighs similar to Ciaz.

It indeed is incredible. The petrol weight just 1010 kgs, the same as (or lighter?) Swift and it is a big car, length and width wise.

Swift weighs around 960 kgs for the petrol and 1050 kgs for the diesel.

So the added weight on the Ciaz comes to around 50 kgs approx.

ZXi is 990 kgs and we know that the body isnt solid. I wonder how Ciaz will be given it is much bigger, comes with more equipment and yet weighs a mere 20 kgs more. They aren't using any exotic metals in construction that we do not know

Pretty neutral car, You may not love it, But definitely you wont hate it !! . I am sure Maruti has a winner in the hand !! long waiting periods for sure

I liked the point saying Most aero dynamic designed by Suzuki !! hope they really mean it and it drives well

Love the rear space ,Scores well mostly with those who will keep a driver !! With the choice of engines, i dont think it will be a driver oriented car anyway.

Got it from the overdrive review

"Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology or S-TECT. This features a liberal use of high tensile steel across the body panels for a lighter, more durable body and a wide wheelbase for stability. And it’s light too, weighing in at just 1,010kg for the petrol and 1,105kg for the diesel."

Review also indicates that all but the base trim have ABS and driver airbag as standard. That is a welcome deviation from their past standards where only the top variant would get airbags.

If they price it lower than the City, looks like it will be a big success. Meets what the majority wants-Space, Mileage, Peace of mind ownership and all the standard gizmos.

Agreed. I hope it doesn't feel as flimsy as the new Honda City. If so, that would be the biggest drawback of this car in my books!

Judging by the sales of City/ Mobilio etc, I dont think the market really cares though!

i too laughed on seeing this. maybe they meant there will be no scar/mark from where the airbags will deploy. My swift has a pretty visible mark on the passenger airbag side

anyway it is quite lame

Also does anyone have any information on the rear brakes is it Disc or Drum?

I like the car but hate the grill. The car looks good but it is not a head turner. I do not expect the car to really affect city sales as much. It's not a revolutionary step by Maruti unlike Tata for the Zest

Bookings have been opened. I spoke to one of the dealers and they said the first test drive vehicle should roll-in by End Sept / Early October and price range is from Rs 8-12 lakhs on road.

Looks interesting.

Atleast Autocar review indicates not to expect handling characteristic of European cars but ride quality is good according to them.

Again Autocar review says that the body is made of high tensile lightweight steel. So lightweight of the car doesn't mean its not safe. Likes of Bolero, Ambassador etc are too heavier vehicles but are they safe? German Audi A4 failed in small overlap crash test whereas lightweight Toyotas and Hondas passed the same test.

IMO we should give a halt to the build quality and safety aspects of the Ciaz until we get some substantial data which confirms the same.

Overall looks like Maruti has got a winner in their hands and may write another history in Indian automobile market. How I wish the Ciaz would have come in RWD or AWD versions with bigger engines within 15L price range. It would have been an exclusive car in affordable price range.
