Guys, does anyone know if the Diesel version will come with a six speed or a seven speed S-tronic DSG? I remember seeing a seven speed one in the Q3. However the VW group cars with the same diesel engine have a six speed DSG. The latter is a very old one in place since at least 2006 or so on the Laura.

It's the 6 speed box for the diesel. The q3 uses the 7 speed since it's a Quattro.
The gearbox may be old but it's rather reliable and brilliant to use. For me it's nearly 4 years with it and not a single issue.

Wonder how they expect people to book without knowing the variant and price details, that too with such a huge booking advance!

Found a review today that seems to be indicate that there may be two trims - one basic and another high end. All other reviews so far seemed to indicate the launch will only be one top end trim each for Diesel and Petrol. The author is hinting at a sub-25 Lac price point for the basic trim.

As far as I know, there are 4 trims expected in Diesel and only one in petrol. You might also have the option of going for a panaromic sunroof on certain trims. It's going to have the 6 speed S-tronic.

To add further to the pricing

The diesel will come in 4 trims;

Attraction: Rs 22.95 L
Premium: Rs 25.95 L
Premium +: Rs 29.95 L
Technology: Rs 32.66L

The petrol only comes in Premium + and will cost Rs 28.5 L. All prices are Ex-Delhi.

I guess the 1 series is a goner now (if it wasn't already) and the A class will really have its job cut out. Good time to be shopping for entry level luxury cars, more power to the buyer

Killer pricing if they are true.

Interesting name of variants as well, Technology seems like a geeks wildest dream come true.

Coming months will decide which all cars it is gonna affect. 1-series is a given I feel because even BMW loyalists will find it difficult to accept the trim and looks. A-class might not be so affected in the long run as it has its own presence, and with CLS coming up it will be an interesting battle.

I feel the current entry sedans - A4, 3-series and C will see a lot of impact. They are more complete cars and offer a lot. But for most people the primary buying criteria of a sedan from big-3 will be taken care by A3 (apart from rear seat space). Let's see what are the differences in equipment level in A3 and A4

I got these numbers for Overdrive and Autocar India, they're absolutely true.

I actually feel the Octavia, Jetta and maybe the A Class will feel the heat the most. The first 2 are lesser brands and the A3 has the appeal on that front while A Class buyers will get a small sedan, but a sedan nonetheless, if they go for the A3. Audi has a winner on its hands if you ask me.

Its gonna be a winner for sure. But who will be losers will be interesting to see.

I feel that Octavia and Jetta buyers will feel a big stretch in going for A3, and unlike the lower end of the market the buyers here will generally not go for the lowest variant (assuming Audi will give a basic bare-bones version).

On the other hand, those going for higher segment may save some money and get more gizmos in the Technology version of A3 over entry version of the next segment.

I have mixed feelings about the prices. I'd want to see the feature break up before I decide if its priced well or not. The Premium + and Tech variants will go up to almost 38l on road, which I think is a lot. If the lower end variants are loaded well with features then it'll be VFM. Though this car will set the sales charts on fire, because we love the LEDs and the 4 rings no matter how similar it is to the Octavia which is 10l cheaper. I mean look at the Q3S, its a 4x2 Yeti at double the price and still is selling well.

Below is the link to the final India brochure for the A3, last page shows all details of trims and features.

http://www.audi.in/etc/medialib/ngw/...l_brochure.pdf

The base variant has some glaring omissions - No fog lights, No beige interiors, no leather upholestry, no automatic climate control, no electrically folding mirrors, no xenon headlamps, no sunroof, no parking sensor (only sound), no rear view camera, no cruise control, no audi sound system (only passive speakers - not sure what that means)....
