The Maruti Suzuki Stingray has been launched in India at a price of between Rs. 4.13 - 4.70 lakhs (ex-Delhi).

The Stingray is powered by the 1-liter K10 engine, and will be available in 5 colour options: White, grey, red, blue & silver.

Fuel efficiency is rated at 20.51 kmpl by ARAI.

Please note: This is just a photo feature of the Stingray. You can read the detailed review on the WagonR, which is mechanically identical to the Stingray over here (Maruti WagonR : Test Drive & Review).

Front end styling is more funky looking, compared to the WagonR.

The bonnet looks longer & flatter because of the small head lamp unit.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray001.jpg

Side profile remains the same, rear spoiler gets shown off nicely from this angle.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray002.jpg

This was the Vxi (O) variant with ABS & driver airbag. Tail lamps seem to have an external chrome surround, but they do not. It's inside the lens.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray003.jpg

Straight-edged side skirts make the car look taller and more rectilinear. Unlike the WagonR, there are no roof rails here.

Reflector grille at the front is one of the differentiating features of the Stingray. You can add a LED surround for the grille as an official accessory.

Halogen projector head lamps are a segment first.

Front bumper has been redesigned.

Tail lamps are different from the WagonR. The side view again has a lot of chrome / reflective inserts.

14" gunmetal grey alloy wheels
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray011.jpg

The only place on the exteriors where the "Stingray" badging is present, that too not in a very noticeable way. WagonR branding is used as a suffix.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray012.jpg

Chrome belt line on the window sills is an optional accessory.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray013.jpg

The 998 cc 3-cylinder petrol engine is the same as the WagonR. It is rated @ 67 BHP (6,200 rpm) and 90 NM of torque (3,500 rpm).
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray.jpg

If not for the redesigned head unit and the use of piano black finish + darker plastics, the dashboard is almost identical to the WagonR. (What you see is a Vxi variant, hence the aftermarket steering leather).
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray014.jpg

The Vxi (O) variant gets a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and piano black insets. Tilt adjustment is available for both, the Vxi & Vxi (O) variants.

Blue theme for the instrument cluster. Orange display shows: Odometer, tripmeter, DTE, instantaneous FE & average FE.

Pop out cup-holders for the front passengers.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray023.jpg

Chrome surrounds on the AC vents at the extreme ends.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray024.jpg

Gear stick however looks very basic.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray025.jpg

Dual glove box is a good thing to have.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray026.jpg

Stingray designer floor mats and interior ambient lighting is an optional accessory.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray027.jpg

Power window controls also get a piano black surround. Better than the silver finish on the WagonR.

Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray029.jpg

The art leather seats (optional) look good.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray030.jpg

60:40 split for the rear seats.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-maruti-stingray031.jpg

Rear passengers get power windows too. (Not on the Lxi variant)

The Indian Stingray looks like a quick mod job on the Wagon R rather than a fresh new car model.

I am sure the after market will soon have mods for Wagon R to match the looks.

Not a chance. Almost the entire front end is different including changes to sheet metal. It's not simple plug and play.

I really hope they do and bring some global models with same features. Can't keep costs down without reusing components from existing models. We are known for jugaad, and the best at that. We innovate like no one else in the world.

I'll be surprised if Maruti didn't heavily rely on WagonR components.

Wagon R and Stingray are bound for comparison. Will keep an eye on official reviews.

WagonR, will be an additional variant is positioned to target the younger generation who are looking for sophisticated and sport looking cars. The most striking feature is the Glass grille and projector headlamps. On the rear the tail lamps are revised to carry over the sport look.

The Alloys get gun metal treatment and is definitely another striking feature of the car.
Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-wagonrstingrayalloywheels.jpg
The WagonR Stingray will be offered in three variants: LXi, VXi and VXi option pack. The option pack, more of a safety pack will offer ABS, driver airbag, audio controls on steering wheel, projector headlamps and electrically adjustable ORVMS.

On the inside the Stingray gets Piano black centre console, all black interiors and chrome finished gear knob. Chorme handles and imitation grain metal accents on the door panels.

The WagonR Stingray is speculated at a premium of Rs. 40-50,000 over the current WagonR.

I hope that all variants get the projector lamps at-least, if not all the goodies.
If no, then the difference between the current WagonR and the Stingray would only mean a different headlamp and hood design.
Who would want to pay a premium of 40k-50k for just a different interior shade and a different grille and HL design, not me.

+1 to that. The projector headlamps was the main reason behind my interest in the stingray. But if Maruti includes the projectors in the option pack, the 40k premium on stingray won't make much sense.

Agreed, but one thing I have been observing is that the overall shape of the Japanese Wagon R Stingray is quite different than the one that is being launched in India, which is a modification of the Wagon R sold in India. This is because the regular Wagon R sold in Japan is slightly different than the Indian Wagon R. Also the Japanese model looks so much better is because it seems that the headlamps and the chrome grill connecting them is much thinner in overall width, whereas the Indian one has wider dimensions. All this and the lower ground clearance of the Japanese model seems to give it a much hotter look, than the one being launched here.

The fit and finish also has to differ. Looks like MSIL is using the current gen bumpers with the JDM stingray HL's. Look at the circles marked in yellow, you will know the difference in the bumper and the gap between the bumper and the HL's.

Maruti Suzuki Stingray : Picture Preview-img05.jpg

Also, Indian stingray is using the dual barrel headlights. One projector and another normal one as opposed to just a single projector on the JDM.

Also, the site says 5 things to be revealed:
1. New Bumper and Projector headlamps
2. New alloy wheel finish
3. Different tail lamps
4. New interior colour scheme
5. Steering mounted controls

Are these the only 5 differences?

To me Stingray looks like a natural facelift that was due for WagonR. Not a new car model in itself. The Tbhp review will be interesting.

The thing that is confusing me, and most of us here, is then how are they planning to sell it alongside the current WagonR, and that too with a premium of 40k-50k!

Lets wait for the 21st to answer most of our questions.

Marutiii... Please! A stingray with steel wheels, manual ovrm's, empty slots for foglamps would make it look like an unwanted child! Thank God painted bumpers are standard!

Hope we get some really cool accessories to jazz it up! This car deserves a lot of them!

And later down the line, dont launch stickered so called 'limited edition' models based on Lxi models with seat covers, fog lamps and mismatched colors! We need an actual factory Limited edition. Exclusive colors, kits and features! my wish

Would a regular Wagon R buyer be inclined to the STINGRAY Or would he rather get the Ritz/Swift LXi ? Would be answered in the Sep /October sales figures!

The front styling reminds me of the Safari Storme. If you have a Storme, buy a Stingray of the same colour too, park them beside each other, and call them Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
Badly needs good aerodynamic-looking roof rails and bigger wheels. They could've increased the ground clearance slightly, added AWD, and positioned it as the "real" mini SUV. I guess the Storme-ish front is giving me weird ideas.
