Default Re: Tata Motors hops on to platform sharing with Advanced Modular Platform

Today's ET has a detailed report on this new platform initiative by Tata. It is apparently codenamed as X4 and the vehicles to be developed on this include
Quote:
X4 -31— the entry hatchback, X4 - 51 — topend hatchback and X4 - 52 — compact sub-4 metre sedan and a compact multipurpose vehicle (MPV)
The report also says

Quote:
the first product on this platform will be ready only after 2015-16, a source said. But till such time, the plan is to bring in Vista facelift in the first half of 2014, followed by a sub-4 metre sedan (Manza or Vista CS) in the second half of 2014.
So the much awaited Manza CS is coming only in the second half of 2014. Too late, IMO.

The report also talks about the products to be launched on the Nano, X0, platform.
Quote:
Nano Diesel, a small hatchback and sub-4 metre sedan on 'X0' platform is also under development, which are likely to be ready by 2015-16.
So looks like rumoured upcoming hatchback below Vista is not on the X4 platform.

And on the UV front the report has this to say,

Quote:
There are three different utility vehicles being thought of — a compact sports utility vehicle to take on M&M's S101 and Ford's EcoSport. An MPV to take on Maruti's Ertiga, and an AUV or aspirational utility vehicle, to take on M&M's Bolero, are also part of the consideration set
All in all it will be a busy next few years at Tata Motors. Hopefully the products click this time.

How many sub-4m sedans are going to be there?
According to the report there's a Manza CS,X0 platform sedan,AMP platform sedan, that's three sub-4m sedans from 1 manufacturer

Seems like these guys have gotten confused by the multiple reports and mashed it up to create story. In all probability the X0/dolphin hatch is the same as the AMP platform entry hatchback and the sub-4m sedan is going to be based on that.
Hopefully there won't be a Manza CS

So with this new platform and after it turns to fruition can we expect a saloon from Tata which actually looks like a "proper saloon". By "proper saloon" i mean less bulbous than the whole car range of Tata.

Or is remaining ungainly and bulbous Tata's usp to attain the tag of maximum interior passenger space?

Although based on the same X1 platform as the Vista, Tata Prima looked first class! Unfortunately, for reasons best known to TM, it was never launched.

You need a relatively long bonnet to make a sedan good looking. Indigo and Manza look bad primarily due to their stubby & drooping bonnets.

Exactmo. I remember reading about the prima way back in 2008-9 in the autocar magazine i think. Too bad that today prima is a name associated with multi axles. I firmly believe Tata would never make a sedate sedan design primarily because it would not (rather ironically) suite its historical passenger car traits of space and more space.
