Default BMW to launch 3-series GT in India

BMW is bringing the 3-series GT in India with an expected launch date, of early next year.
This will be made available as CBU initially.

GT is essentially a longer, wider and taller 3-series saloon much like the 5-series GT that’s already on sale here.
The GT essentially comes with all of the 3 series traits, with the extra practicality of added space.

Some quick specs:
  • 3.0-litre straight-six diesel in the form of the 330d, and the four-cylinder 320d
  • eight-speed gearbox
  • 0-100kph time of less than 8 seconds for the 330d.
  • Price range: 45-50 lakh
  • 200mm longer, 19mm wider and 79mm taller than the saloon.
  • additional 200kg kerb weight
  • 110mm longer wheelbase
  • Lift back hatch opening
  • rear seats split ratio 40:20:40
  • boot space of 1,600 litres
  • flexible seat backs at the rear
  • The interiors are exactly the same as the standard 3-series, with the same soft-touch trim

We will be launching the 3-Series GT early next year in India. This will be assembled at our Chennai plant. The car will be positioned between our existing best selling models 5- Series and 3-Series
The company will also take a call early next year on launching either its electric vehicle i3 or hybrid model i8 in the country.

Is there really space in the price brand between the 3 and 5 series as they nearly overlap.

If BMW wants to find that space it will have to pitch the 5 series as more premium or else the 520d and 320d GT will be similar priced.

I think the 3 GT is a bad move. The 5GT manages to sell whatever it does because of the big gap between the 5 and the 7. Right now a 520d can be had for maybe a lac or 2 more than a 320d luxury or sport, so the 3GT is going to be more expensive than a 520d. The only people who would buy a 3GT are ones who would want more legroom at the back, and I think that type of a person would want a 5 badge on the back and not a 3. Its going to be a flop.

Looks like Its going to be assembled in India now. They also announce it will be priced between the 5 series and 3 series. Expect a price hike in the facelifted 5 series to be launched.

Dear God! Are they persisting with this hideous line of design?
The 5=series GT has the ignominy of being possibly the most ugly BMW of all time and one of the ugliest cars ever, and now they're expanding that hideousness into other lines as well.

In no small part thanks to it's vomit-inducing looks and what will probably be absurd pricing.

Looks like an ugly cousin of Hyundai (more so from the side). I guess they don't lose much for trying if they will only be assembling them here.
