I had spotted a camo'd Zest a few weeks ago on the NH 4 just outside Pune on my way back to Mumbai. I was going at ~80 and from a road diversion, the Zest which was in front of me accelerated pretty quick and disappeared into the distance.

Looking at it from behind it seemed quite stable over the road undulations and bumps. I used to own a Indigo CS for ~5yrs and loved the suspension, I think the Zest suspension one could be similar if not better.

No pics as I was driving.

Great news guys. eagerly waiting for launch now. Diesel AMT is what i am interested in more. Will be fun.

http://indianautosblog.com/2014/05/t...-august-131091

" Tata Bolt and the Tata Zest will be launched in August this year.
The report says that apart from the Tata Zest getting a diesel AMT variant, the Bolt will get one too. This would make the Zest and the Bolt the first-ever diesel compact sedan and hatchback in India to have AMT variants. The diesel will also come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both vehicles will carry a freshly developed 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.3-liter diesel engine."

Motorbeam reports via an exclusive scoop that Tata will stop the production of the 1.3L Quadrajet variants of the Vista & Manza variants, in order to clear the production lines for the Bolt & the Zest.

Only the 1.4L TDI will be offered for fleet operators, and by 2015, Tata Motors will stop production of the Vista completely.

The Tata Bolt and the Tata Zest will be launched in mid-August, and online bookings for both cars will be open from mid-July (a month before the launch). Both cars will be on showroom display from July, because Tata Motors is targetting a big number of sales from the very first day of the simultaneous launch itself.

If that is the case, I could be one of their first takers. My parents' Baleno is aging and I am looking for a good replacement for them. The 1.3 VGT is proven n tested, with a good AMT, it would be really comfortable to drive. One question, which AMT is this, and from where are they sourcing it?

It was reported earlier that the AMT is from Magneti Marelli - the same used by Maruti Suzuki.

Diesel AMT will rule.
The diesel AMT will alone get so many customers to the tata showroom, no doubt about that. If only tata can give a car with no niggles and well finished interiors, they've got a complete turn around for them. They also need a good ASS.

I think it makes sense booking one once bookings open, but delivery should be taken in the beginning of 2015, In my previous experience with Tata vehicles the niggles and problems are usually sorted out within 6-8 months.

Some old interior pics that caught my eyes. They might have been posted earlier, but couldn't resist posting them now. Taken by IAB during Geneva Auto Show,

Bolt:

Zest:

The interiors look like they belong a segment higher. I personally hope that these all black interiors with black seats and red piping too are launched here. I found them to be more classy than the beige one unveiled in India.

That's a great news for the diesel friendly country. Saw all the three upcoming models' test mules today on kharadi bypass road (Zest, Bolt and Nano). Couldn't check whether all of them were AMT variants.

All black interiors really look classy and decidedly sporty! And its exciting to see the 8000 rpm tachometer! Wish the 1.2 Revtron engine comes with a sports version with more than 100 PS on tap.
BTW, how far is August from now?

I agree. The interiors feel really sporty. The red version that has been showcased everywhere with these interiors make it look like it is a hot hatch. I hope Tata make this a fun to drive car in terms of handling. Since the Revotron is tuned for driveability and is turbocharged, I think it'll be pretty easy to get it to 100 PS with a tuning box and a couple of small mods.

BTW, in one of the studio pics, the car had a 7000RPM redline Still I don't think it'll have much juice beyond 6000 as it makes its peak power at 5000RPM.
Also, the Zest showcased there is a diesel since it has AMT. Not sure why they are using the same tacho with 8000RPM reading in that one.

Yes, I too can't wait for the launch of these cars. Really curious to know how fun this car is going to be. Waiting for a Team-BHP review and a test drive

PS Here is that 7K RPM redline pic.

PPS Any tips how to remove an image from appearing twice. i.e, One is the actual pic. The other shows as "Attached Thumbnails". Can the "attached thumbnails" duplicate be removed?

Note from mod: I have fixed this post. Please see the Annoucements section on how to add images inline. You have to select images, and not use img tag

I hope Bolt/Zest interiors would help in lowering our obsession with beige interior!

This may not be the place to put this up but came across this article. interesting read. if Tata can do what they say they intend doing then it's good news for India!

Thanks for posting pics, the car looks awesome from the inside! Will definitely give a tough fight to the Segment leaders.

IIRC (Noel?) TATA recently even acquired a Leather company that specialises in Auto-upholstery. I'm sure they'll use their deep roots to the maximum to get us the best product in this down-ward spiraling market.

Really wish TaMo all the best & hope take off really high after they launch the Bolt & Zest!

I guess the Tacho is shared amongst the Diesel & Petrol Versions, hence the 8000RPM figure, IIRC it was the same case in the Manza/Vista too. Anyway I don't think any of the versions can be pushed post 6000RPM with stock settings. Maybe its relevant to a possible sport version or an engineering convention to indicate its capabilities to re-mapping Guru's!

I'm not really looking forward to the Team-BHP review for these 2 cars (or any other ACI/Overdrive review for that matter), first I'll drive it, then I'll decide. I may bother with reviews only for learning the feature list. Anyway.
