Hyundai should seriously think on discontinuing the i10 especially after i10 grand has taken its place effectively, also since the i10 is sitting next to Santro in sales chart, infact consider discontinuing both i10 & Santro and make effort to bring new cars in the market to counter Maruti. Maruti 2014 forecast looks good with slue of new cars.

I have always wondered about it. Can someone answer who knows the answer?

The space if finite, and we cannot be having lakhs of vehicles coming to roads/streets infinitely. _Someday_ we will run out of space. Isn't that so easy to think? But surprisingly no one appears bothered about it in the auto industry.

All I hear every time is cry for the incentives to bring more and more vehicles on the road. Even if we fix infrastructure, we will still run out of space if the same rate continues.

Well - they have discontinued most of the variants except the lower ones, powered by the 1.1 litre engine.

As for the Santro, with sales of over 3800, one of the better selling B1 hatches, they probably see no reason to stop it for the present. As the saying goes: 'if it ain't broke, why fix it?'
Maybe when sales dip substantially they will.

Stingray doesn't give much help to Wagon R.
Grand i10 eats into its own i10 and i20, and Maruti's Ritz too, I guess.
Ford is concentrating on export of Ecosport, which causes lower numbers and huge waiting period here, I guess.
@ Midhun

Very correctly stated, the Stingray seems to have actually done a world of good for Grand i10.

Honestly, the Stingray seems to be a drab effort and in flesh, the car simply put, holds a flickering candle in front of the upmarket and well put up Grand i10.

Good to see an alomost 400% spike in Fiat Sales. Though I wonder how?

Probably, the last year was a complete washout for Fiat.

Amaze continues its amazing run though would be interesting to see if the Diesel City halts its sprint!!

About time for MS to replace the aging 200 units SX4. Bring on the update. Its high time.

Skoda has made 1500+ sales numbers with 6 models. Fiat has made 1000+ sales numbers with 2 models. A little appreciation for Fiat here. Not to mention the recent introduction of Octavia hasnt made anything better. Both have a history of bad reputation.

When will toyota come up with a product in the growing luxury hatchback segment. Hope they are complacent with Innova alone !

Its going to take decades now to beat the sales of Swift !

Where is the listing for Mahindra's Battery vehicle E2O ! Or pardon my ignorance. Is it stopped !

Rexton losing shine !!

Looks like the sales slowdown is biting everyone. While Ford has announced it's annual Midnight sale drama like every year I was a bit surprised to find that even Toyota has joined the league. They today announced a very similar thing to Ford within 2-3 days of the Ford advertisement. Good and hefty discounts by Toyota standards are available on most of their models including even the Innova!

Hyundai Grand i10 as expected is setting the sales chart on fire but in-order to keep the Santro alive Hyundai are not plonking the 1.1L 4 cylinder engine in to Eon and as a result Eon is managing to sell only a quarter of what Alto is doing. I mean despite the upgrade Alto is still a old wine a new bottle while Eon despite being much more modern and contemporary product is lagging way behind the Alto. Alto is selling more than twice the number of units Santro and Eon are managing combined. The only way to tackle this would be to provide 1.1 liter engine as an option on Eon which would allow it to compete with the Alto much more effectively. If Santro still manages to sell around 3-4k units they should keep it going and if the sales plummet they should pull the plug. Maruti is bringing in new products constantly and Hyundai needs to be on its toes if they need to stay competitive.

In coming months the most vulnerable position up for grabs would be the no.4 automaker in the country. Toyota, TATA and Honda are slugging it out. Honda is about 1000 cars away from the 4th position. Its already clocking over 9000 per month, that too with Honda city sales to zero and amaze having waiting periods. Honda would be on fire once city is launched and I feel they should grab the 4th spot, and with no new launches for mass market I dont see any significant shift in numbers of Toyota or Tata, what do you say guys ?

The diesel-petrol sales split for 2013 so far:

Jan - 41845 : 10185 ~ 4 : 1

Feb - 13466 : 3900 ~ 3.5 : 1

Mar - 38714 : 8212 ~ 4.75 : 1

Apr - 40918 : 12025 ~ 3.5 : 1

May - 33846 : 11711 ~ 3 : 1

Jun - 49405 : 24197 ~ 2 : 1

Jul - 46675 : 22018 ~ 2 : 1

Aug - 66542 : 25314 ~ 2.75 : 1

Sep - 70643 : 30793 ~ 2.25 : 1

Oct - 77725 : 34696 ~ 2.25 : 1

Nov - 61846 : 27613 ~ 2.25 : 1

As one can notice, the ratio has become approximately constant (~ 2.25 : 1) over the last three months. This may be a temporary equilibrium for the current difference in the prices of the two fuels, and may change when the price differences changes (increases or decreases).

As usual,

i. All numbers are from Team-BHP's monthly sales threads.

ii. The ratio applies only for those cars whose split figures for that month were provided by the manufacturers.

iii. It becomes impossible to calculate the overall ratio in the absence of split figures from two or three mainstream manufacturers.

iv. Petrol car numbers include those that came with factory-fitted LPG & CNG kits.

The Renault K9K is an excellent, proven, torquey, fuel-efficient engine, no doubt, more so in the light Micra/Pulse cars, even in 64PS guise.

However, the Micra Petrol is also available with an automatic gearbox. This makes only a small difference, though.

The main reason is because the petrol Micra's numbers include the superb value-for-money offering in the form of the Micra Active variant family. Starting at just ~ Rs. 3.5 lacs ex-showroom for the base XE, even the top XV S with 2 airbags and ABS is available for ~ Rs. 4.8 lacs ex-showroom.

That is simply unbeatable value-for-money for a spacious, well-rounded 1.2 lit. engined car! In fact, I'm left wondering why the Micra is not in the top 20 with that kind of value.

Thanks parrys for the report.

I feel sad how Nano is performing in spite of all the efforts put in by Tata. I really want this to be a success but don't see anything changing in near future.

I see Vento further loosing nos once New City hits the showrooms.

Ford must increase capacity to bring down waiting period of Ecosport, already Duster+Terrano is way ahead despite a good price difference.
