Post re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2013. EDIT : Ford EcoSport it is!

After reading the HORRIFIC tales about the Skoda service experience, nobody would dare to vote for them. But still I voted for the Octavia. Reason? Separate the product from the scam! Loads of features, elegant European sedan and overall a truly premium package. Undoubtedly, the MQB's first baby made a stunning debut this year. And my heart goes for it. Skoda, if you have got the BHPians vote today, it's simply because of your product. Had there been a poll for a service experience, probably you would have scored in negatives! Hope you'll change!

Voted for Ecosport for its wonderful worthy product positioning. SUV's rule the road consecutively for two years..

My vote goes to grand i10 for giving something more and thinking about consumer delight while designing the product.

Hands down it's the Ford EcoSport (though I bought a Honda City). We should appreciate the poll mods for mentioning other cars here. It's a no contest, given how the automotive community was excited and were on their toes waiting for this car. Ford did deliver and how!

Ecosport seems to be running away with this award now! I'm sure that will be the case in many of the other award ceremonies like ICOTY etc.
But my vote was for the skoda octavia, its one of those classic looking cars which has a timeless design and has fantastic build quality.

Voted for the i10 Grand for the features and quality, and it is well priced too. Looks really nice, and is available without a ridiculously long waiting period.

I have voted for the Ecosport.

Apart from the affordable and aspirational package the Ecosport is, the image of Ford from the Escort/Ikon days has been worked on and has changed to quite the opposite. Ford builds reliable cars today and shows its commitment to our market unlike some other international manufacturers.

Voted for the Skoda Octavia.

I really liked the smart looks of the car. The engines, gearbox and features available on this car really make other cars in the segment look very much outdated. Price seems to be a problem for many but if you compare it with SUVs in the 25 ~ 30 lakh bracket, the car does not seem overpriced for what it offers.

Surprised to note that the Octavia is doing better than the Grand i10 in this race as of now.

Voted Amaze for:

- An Amazing car with class leading space (man maximum, machine minimum)
- Class leading milage and a new age engine (after Fiat's national engine operating in India since 2005, have not witnessed a mass diesel motor, the D4D and K9K are old engines in terms of technology and Chevy smartech is same / sibling of multijet).
- Honda's revival in Indian market
- Honda's commitment to India, am quite unhappy how Ford is treating Indian buyers with endless waiting and frustration. Honda is ready for supply against demand and has not made fake commitments like Ford's MD !

Cheers to Honda, my favourite, many others will agree too !

Voted for the Ford Ecosport. It is definitely a game changer and ticks all the right boxes for an average Indian consumer who's planning to buy or upgrade to a new car. Also, the new 1.0l petrol engine seems like a trendsetter for a future generation of petrol engines to come. Good job Ford!

My vote goes to the Ecosport, a game changer and fantastic value for your money when one is looking for a Compact SUV...I wish they had released the 1.0 litre Turbo engine on the lower variants too..

I just voted for Ford Ecosport. In my opinion it was a well conceived and executed project, had all the ingredients to become a global success.
I'm sure this product will make a positive change to Ford in India, in terms of loyal customers (in good numbers) who may buy future Ford products.

Another product that I expect to do well is Ashok Leyland Stile.
I believe this product is tailer made for Feet operators, a sweet spot waiting to be filled after the Innova's price rise. After all, this design has global acceptance for its practicality as a people over by making it as New York taxi, and possibly in future the London Taxi as well.
Nissan failed in marketting and pricing this product well!

Voted for Honda Amaze but keeping the iDtech in mind. AMAZE(ing) car really. 100 BHP of power from a 1500CC power house is really great. The ECO light in the instrument helps a lot to get the best fuel economy. Be it city or highway, driving this car is a joy. Some may complain about the basic features and the tad plastic dashboard but once you drive the car you will fall in love with it.

The best in the class. I am not comparing this car with other contenders in the race here.

Anxiously waiting for this poll results.

All the best.

Am yet to vote on this poll and I'm still undecided on my choice of the winner.

But what interests me are the predictions of Mr Nostradamus, A.K.A. GTO. His predictions since 2009 for the Team-BHP COTY award have been spot on. Consider GTO's previous predictions and eventual winners:

YEAR----GTO's Prediction-----Winner
2009----Tata Nano------------Tata Nano
2010----Ford Figo-------------Ford Figo
2011----Mahindra XUV500-----Mahindra XUV500
2012----Renault Duster--------Renault Duster
2013----Ford Ecosport--------Do you need to guess?

And with the Ecosport already way, way ahead of the polls, I cant think of any other winner for Team-BHP COTY award 2013.

Another observation: The SUVs seem to be running away with the COTY awards since the last three years. Are these SUVs really such game changers that they are influencing the vox populi of India? I tend to think so.

The iDTEC of Amaze has trumped the EcoBoost of Ecosport. I am personally excited about turbocharged petrol engines, but the Ecosport is just an overpriced hatchback with high ground clearance. The Amaze on the other hand has successfully taken the competition head on. It has stirred the mass market, and not just the petrolhead fora.
