Emotionally, i agree, i should have voted for the Grand i10. But logically thinking, i found the Amaze to be a better option. Also, if another brand or car appeals to a One Brand Loyalist, that car definitely deserves my vote.

In spite of cancelling my booking of the Ecosport in favour of the XUV a few months back, I still voted for the Ecosport. Truly a game changer whose impact on the market is already tremendous.

Was a toss up between Grand i10, Amaze & Ecosport:

Hyundai Grand I10 - For bringing in a lot of class in the small hatchback segment at a VFM proposition. Great interiors with good engine options and the perfect city small car nearly.

Honda Amaze - For Honda venturing into unchartered territories (Diesel) and triumphing like only they do. Great packaging of a mid sizer.

Ford Ecosport - For turning dreams into reality and hitting the sweet spot perfectly even while opening up the new 'Mini Urban SUV' segment.

The Ecosport it is then for sheer brilliance - Looks great, drives great & priced great. What more can we ask for except the long waiting periods?

EcoSport gets my vote. After getting it wrong with the Fiesta, Ford took their time bringing the EcoSport to India and rightly so. The high local content has helped them price it sensibly. Even after the novelty factor has worn off, the concept-car looks of the EcoSport still turns heads..it is so darn good looking! Ford have managed to pack in technology, plenty of character, features - both safety and otherwise, all in a segment defining package that is hard to beat!

Ecosport it is - but only by a whisker over the Octavia for me. The top-end Petrol Octavia is 23L on-road Bangalore!

Things going for the Ecosport: good pricing. Taking on segment-leader Duster (hell, practically the segment!) was no easy task. Waiting periods are a big downer though!

Undoubtedly, it is Ford Ecosport.
Excepting Amaze & Grand i10, others haven't really taken off. Of course, I have not seen (Isuzu/Stile/Gurkha) or driven (High end like Merc/BMW/Volvo).

Voted for octavia. It looks like it will be a cakewalk for ecosport and is also a VFM product but come this side of the 10 lakh and you have got to praise skoda for its 3rd gen octavia. Especially with the figures of power and torque with the 1.8L engine plus the dynamics and handling of an European sedan.

I voted for the Grand i10 because while others are trying to catch up for their follies (Honda = Diesel Amaze, Ford = Failed Fiesta through Ecosport) Hyundai is trying to accelerate as per their own thought out plan. They are trying to differentiate very well for even the lower end of the market. Grand i10 is in grand scheme of things from them!

Still think next best are Ecosport, Amaze, Octavia in that order.

Voted for the Octavia, though the Ecosport was the next thing on my mind. My vote if it had swung towards the Ecosport would have happened only because it is a game changer in terms of the pricing point at which they had introduced this car. They made a soft roader/urban suv affordable to a lot of people.

So what if there a few goodies missing, my vote would still be for the Octavia.

Even though I voted for Ecosport as a true gamechanger, I feel the Polo GT twins at least deserve a mention on the poll for finally bringing "Performance to the masses" at least in Indian terms.

Should have included the Volkswagen Polo GTís TSI and TDI awesome machines arenít they?
Guess this year it has to be the Eco Sport only if they could manufacture at least 10,000 units per month this could very well have been the car of the decade.
PS: I voted for Amaze simply because of a very practical car and brand Honda living upto its name. Eagerly waiting for Honda City 2014.

Is it available for sale or to drive? The launch is only in January 2014 so it will be part of COTY 2014.

I voted for the e2o from Mahindra.
My reason is simple.
We have had SUVs, Cars, Hatches, Sedans, Big SUVs, really big SUVs year after year. Some small some big, some success, some flop.

However, for the first time, a mainstream mfr has come out with an electric vehicle. Unlike the older Reva, they are also trying to push it pan India.
Mahindra is a mainstream name, and only when somebody big gets into EV, there can be policy push. Today we are dependent upon petrol and diesel.
However, if big mfrs start getting EVs we will get
1. More policy decisions, leading to subsidy pan India
2. cheaper costs as costs of batteries etc., come down
3. Maybe at center level we will get excise customs rebate

So its a huge step for Indian automotive market. If an affordable hybrid is launched, that would have been my choice, but since all we have is this tiny EV, I guess, it takes the crown.

The leader Ecosport, is not unique because its a compact SUV. Its unique due to 1.0 DI petrol engine, another first for India. But I guess the EV wins this time.

Lightbulb re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2013. EDIT : Ford EcoSport it is!

For me only 2 cars mattered the most in this poll > Grand i10 and the EcoSport. Ultimately I voted for the EcoSport as I think it is a great car overall. The Grand i10 came a close second for me. Though some of the others are good, I don't feel they made an impact on the market as much as these two did.

For the practical mind however, the Honda Amaze should win! H badge, nice diesel, decent interiors, decent looks!
