Looks hideous in red. Moreover, the placement of taillights reminds me of low waist jeans. Side profile is okay and looks balanced, but the rear is the most stupidest integration I've seen till date.

I really hope this car doesn't come with the diesel engine of Grand i10, it deserves at least 1.4L of i20. Else its direct competitors will have a edge performance wise.

As per report, the car will have a 1.1 L Diesel engine. Seriously, that's shameful for a sedan. I was surprised that Hyundai launched sedan on i10 frame rather than i20. Thought i20 was a natural frame to convert to sedan. Engine performance is where Xcent will take a beating from Dzire, forget Amaze.
One of the main reasons I bought Amaze 6 months back was its 1.5 L diesel engine, which I thought was an upgrade for an entry level sedan. Was proven right when Honda used the same engine for the City.
I guess Hyundai just wants to cash in on the sub-4 m craze with a substandard product..

Sub standard product? Hyundai has some BEST of the segment interiors and part quality. Same goes with the Xcent / Grand i10! Having said that, I would have still loved to have the 1.4L CRDi in it.

i20 hatch is 3995 mm long, 5 mm less than the 4 meter length - how could you ever get a compact sedan out of that?

Grand i10, on the other hand, is 3765 mm long, so you have 235 mm space to use.

For me, Verna is the i20 (and a proper) sedan at 4370 mm.

Overall - I don't like the idea of sub 4 m sedans, all of them look distorted if not ugly.

At the recently concluded Auto Expo, Hyundai showcased their upcoming compact sedan based on the Grand i10 which will be called the Xcent. Now, Hyundai has officially announced that the Xcent will be launched on 12th March, in New Delhi.

Hopefully, they will launch an automatic version with ABS and airbags, unlike the hatch. This currently made me stay away from the car, inspite of it having good build quality, features and VFM.

Last time I checked, Grand i10 Asta was a good 1.25L cheaper than the bare-bones variant of Amaze. Should ensure competitive pricing for the sedan as well.

I'm happy for you if you like the car, but should restrict from calling the competition substandard. I am one of those who walked into a Honda showroom to book Amaze, and had to walk away frustrated with the quality levels inside out - for the big asking price it commands.

Zigwheels speculates the prices to start at 4.8 lakhs for petrol and 5.8 lakhs for the diesel.
That should ruffle a few feathers in the market

They need to price this to ensure that the puny engine can give some competition to the 1.5 Diesel engine of Amaze. Value for money pricing could give them some serious business.

I hope so too! With all the goodies that Hyundai generally packs in, it should be a good alternative to the Amaze AT. Amaze has set the benchmark in terms of cabin space for a compact sedan, hope the Xcent matches it or comes really close.

Now I know how beautiful looking the rear of DZire is, compared to that of XCent!

There is a lot to a car than looks - Indian market has seen poor looking cars selling like hot cakes too - the old big boot Dzire for example

Moving on, you picked up the image of the Dzire's back from Gaadi.com and cleverly cropped the logo out, eh?

Original Dzire pic you used can be seen at - http://www.gaadicdn.com/car_alb/resi...re_ext_323.jpg

I too agree that the Xcent's rear-end is a bit boring to look at, but I think it is just a matter of getting used to.The same was said about the ugly-rear end of the new Dzire when it was launched, by almost all media and see how we have become used to it now. The logic is simple - If we see the same ugliness again and again daily, in tens and hundreds, we will gradually stop thinking how ugly it is. Same is the case with the funny looking awkward rear-end of the Ritz.

As long as the manufacturers design compact sedans by just integrating a boot with one of their hatchbacks, I don't think there is much hope in expecting clean-looking, well executed rear-ends on compact sedans. Amaze and Zest may be comparatively better looking, but IMHO, none of the CS's look well-proportioned from the side/rear profiles. So I think we just have to accept it in this case too, and move on..
