Default Volvo cars coming to India!

Another piece of very good news for Indian car buyers. The name synonymous with automotive safety is coming to India. Volvo Car corp. announced in Stockholm that they would be launching their cars in the Indian car market beginning from the fourth quarter of this year! Thats fast! Initially, the S80 (hopefully it will be the new 2007 model) and XC 90 will be launched here with other models following soon. Volvo plans to have at least 3 dealerhips in India by end of 2006.

Why they choose Volvo over Jag still bugs me. Who knows, maybe the retro design of the Jags reminds people too much of Amby and Padmini.
Of course, Volvo buses are tremendously loved and appreciated.

That is really good news. Its about time Volvo came to India. Hopefully, other car manufacturers will learn something from this and dive into the Indian market.

You answered your own question.
Part of reason to bring Volvo ahead of Jaguar might be the sense of comfort & safety attached to name VOLVO

VOLVO has one of the best cars when it comes to safety features. They spend huge money on safety R&D each year.

No wonder the S40 & S60 sports sedans have won the Frost & Sullivan Award for the Best overall safety car for 2005.

S80 in UK costs £24400 and XC90 costs £32850. Wonder how much these will be sold for in India.

"WE have spent 25years on the seats alone."
-Volvo
KOtler and Armstrong.

read that in the marketing text.

The s40 in red is what I love but the heart of the engine beats faster and better in the s60 sports version. Does 0-60 in less than 5 secs.

Yes it is.

I doubt the success of any of these cars in india.

For good sales in the premium segment, one must have jaw-dropping design or some really cool features, or must be a very well-known brand.

Volvos have a very inoffensive look, not much brand image here too. I seirously doubt the success of these cars.
