Default Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014

This is Volkswagen's SUV concept – the Taigun.
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-01-img_3324.jpg

High points:
• Make sure you don't confuse this concept Taigun with the currently produced VW Tiguan
• It will run a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine
• Power output is 108 horsepower and 175 Nm of torque
• Sub-4 meter, 4-door, 4-seater
• Volkswagen is still evaluating the feasibility of the Taigun in India
The Taigun has styling that embodies the elegant and functional German aesthetic. Fits the family look too:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-02-img_3374.jpg

Sub-4 meter length means it will go up against the EcoSport et al:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-03-img_3370.jpg

Rear-mounted spare tyre and squared off shoulders give it more of a 'real-SUV' look:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-04-img_3367.jpg

Pretty cool design on this custom made tyre (just for the concept of course):
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-05-img_3366.jpg

Alloy design combines beauty with an 'engineering' feel. Looks kinda like tuning forks pivoting towards the edge of the rim:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-06-img_3385.jpg

Look how the clean 3-slat grille flows into the headlamp design. Neat:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-07-img_3325.jpg

Classy lamps. No 'dotty' LEDs:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-08-img_3330.jpg

Grilles on the hood. Probably just ornamental / to add to the rugged look:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-10-img_3363.jpg

Rear door handle is similar to the Chevy Beat:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-11-img_3348.jpg

The boot too gets a similar handle integrated with the taillight, but it wasn't functional on the concept:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-12-img_3353.jpg

Another 'I'm a real SUV' design hint. Exposed tow-hooks:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-13-img_3354.jpg

The cladding at the bottom of the doors is quite substantial. It wraps under the car:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-14-img_3349.jpg

Another view of the cladding. Look how much below the door edge it goes:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-15-img_3384.jpg

The squared off styling allows the fairly small vehicle to make full use of interior space:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-16-img_3372.jpg

The roof rack integrates two lights that come on with the high-beams:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-18-img_3376.jpg

Despite being a concept, the interior still has retained that minimalist VW feel:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-01-img_3377.jpg

It's a manual:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-02-img_3378.jpg

That's a Samsung Galaxy S3 that has taken the place of the AVN system:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3335.jpg

Neat manual 6-speed shifter:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3339.jpg

Aircon vents have a digital temperature read-out on the knobs!
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3341.jpg

Fixed head-rests. Wait, what's that in the background? Butterfly windows? I'm calling shotgun!
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3343.jpg

Hey Vid6639, what are those two things below the series of buttons...?
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3359.jpg

...ah, custom water bottles:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3360.jpg

Oil temp, water temp and boost:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3379.jpg

Fairly straightforward speedo:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3380.jpg

Note the 2 elastic cords running horizontally. Useful for holding maps/newspapers in place. Small rubberized shelf too:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3383.jpg

Default Re: Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014

You know what I learned today?

Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3292.jpg

Who won the WRC title in 2004? Sebastien Loeb, in his Citroen.
What about in 2005? Sebastien Loeb.
And in 2006? Sebastien Loeb.
2007? Sebastien Loeb.
2008? Sebastien Loeb.
2009? Sebastien Loeb.
2010? Sebastien Loeb.
2011? Sebastien Loeb.
2012? Sebastien Loeb.
2013? Sebastien Ogier.

Read that last name again...

After 9 years of Citroen and Sebastien Loeb killing it in the WRC, Volkswagen and their driver/navigator pair of Sebastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia finally broke that spell and secured the WRC title in 2013, in this car:

Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3296.jpg

2013 Polo R WRC
• Powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine
• Uses the same block and head gasket as the production Polo TFSI sold abroad
• "More than 300 horsepower" (these WRC guys are always so secretive about this stuff!)
• AWD, 6-speed sequential transmission, Limited Slip Differential (LSD)
• 0-100 km/h in < 4 seconds
Bibendum looks pretty happy about those specs:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3287.jpg

Bare basics on the inside. Sequential shifter on the right:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3393.jpg

Unique pedal sizing and symmetry. I quite like it:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3394.jpg

Weight saving; Carbon-fiber door pads. Strappy door handles:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3391.jpg

Carbon double-deck spoiler at the rear:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-wrc-img_3397.jpg

A lovely tempest blue Jetta was on display too:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3301.jpg

It's a great colour, but unfortunately it is not coming to India:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3304.jpg

New DRLs with projectors. These were added to the Indian Jetta recently:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3305.jpg

Some brushed aluminum trim:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3307.jpg

Real leather seats (note, no perforations). Unfortunately we aren't getting this either:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3312.jpg

17" wheels, once again, just for the show-car:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3314.jpg

A Polo R cup car. 2012 saw them move from diesels to TSI petrols. More info (Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 Launched - New 180 BHP petrol cars!)
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3399.jpg

Seeing the Polo R Cup cars in all their individualized livery is always a pleasure:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3322.jpg

JK slicks. Probably not the quickest rubber on the track, but probably the most cost friendly:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3321.jpg

And, here's the rest of the 'regulars':
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3298.jpg

(Donno why this colour on the Cross Polo came out a bit strange, sorry)
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3299.jpg

And finally, here's a Vento:
Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014-img_3319.jpg

I don't see any turn indicators on the fender or ORVM of the Taigun. Isn't it mandatory?!
Somehow doesn't excite me as much as the Chevy Adra.

One more thing, the Taigun features a 6-speed tranny with the dog-leg for the reverse gear, not 5-speed as earlier mentioned.

The biggest dampener probably on the Taigun is that the platform cannot take a 4WD - as reported by Autocar a few months back. Hope it turns out false

What beautiful car. If at all VW decides to bring it here, i dont see them pricing it bellow 15 lakhs, and it may find few takers even at that price ( as a lifestyle vehicle). But yes, let them price it at 10 lakhs and this will be the largest selling VW in India.

Really disappointing from VW
No new unveils, no futuristic concepts like other manufacturers
No news related to upcoming launches if there are any. Just the Taigun which has been doing the rounds at every other Motor show for the past 2 years.

Just shows their commitment to the Indian market
Thanks Rehaan for creating such an extensive thread for a really bland stall.

I'd say that :
1) Depends on where they plan to sell it
2) This is just a concept, so it might not meet all requirements

Sorry for the typo. It's been corrected.

We were not allowed to open the boot - (i think the handle might have been broken). Somehow we are missing the rear seat pic! Will try to get you one today.

Wow! The 2013 Polo R WRC, the world champion. Amazing! The star of the show?

And the Taigun looks very good. The design elements on VW concepts are so subtle, one will mistake it for being production ready!

Why are the 2014 VW Polo featured in this stable. Weren't they supposed to come out with few cosmetic upgrades? I have seen few pics of the new polo with new front and rear bumpers.

I am amazed as they are missing from the stable.
I should say that Taigun Concept is the only Fairy which showcased. Looking forward to the unveiling of the original.

Thumbs up Re: Volkswagen @ Auto Expo 2014

Really great pictures. The Taigun looks promising depending on what price they launch it at and how soon they launch it. I expected them to showcase the Up! as well. It would be a great car to launch in India
