Now with the AT they would need to re-engineer that with the brakes and take care of other permutations as well. It was simpler to just remove that feature with the AT and go back to the old key type.

Same for the brake energy which was related to clutch not being pressed, being in the gear and coasting. This would need to be completely reengineered to work with the AT box and would lead to some complexity.

On the safer side they have removed the 2 features that have some association with the transmission electronics.

For the convenience of an AT, nobody will miss these 2 features.

But I dont think that there was a need to delete the Passive Keyless Entry too.

Were they thinking that if there is no engine start/stop button then the key has to be taken out anyways ?

I think I would disagree as the new scorpio is really low on space, specially around the driver seat, which most of us would be occupying most of the time. Its really cramped over there.

Default Mahindra XUV500 with 6-Speed Automatic in 2015. EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 15...

AT version with just 2kmpl less? That's very impressive compared to 10-12 kmpl I was quoted by the dealer on my i10 AT Asta.

Considering XUV to be far superior in weight and power this shouldn't be a big surprise !

On paper they're quoting 13.7 kmpl. I doubt it will be be anything more than 9.5 in city driving conditions.

That is still quiet good. Considering the AWD variant in city gives 9-11 on average.

Finally the wait is over but still waiting to see it and feel the AT in flesh. They don't have the online booking for it like the TUV though. The blue (Or Verve Blue) color and the green color would have been an added advantage for this new AT model. Anyways waiting to book one ASAP.

Even the manual doesn't really give any more than 10 kpl in the city, So i think the Auto should also be the same if not less, Highway though even the auto should be able to give more than 12-13 kpl.

In my observation with different cars, the smaller engines have a very high difference in effeciency between manual and auto, as high as 30% in i10 At etc. As engine size grows the difference reduces, and is below 10% for a 2 Lit engine.
Now considering that newer manuals have dual mass clutch and other costly components, a replacement is costing about Rs 50,000 even if we replace clutch at an average of a Lakh km, and a auto user has burned a 1000 Lit more diesel over the lakh km, he has actually ended up paying only Rs 10,000 more.
So marginal difference in effeciency should just not count at all.

I meant relatively bigger - as in bigger than the TUV300.

In simpler terms, if you need a 7 seater UV with a diesel engine and -

Have a budget of 10-12 Lacs : Pick the TUV3OO AMT
Have a budget of 14-16 Lacs : Pick the Scorpio A/T
Have a budget of 17-19 Lacs : Pick the XUV A/T

so apart from sunroof what is the main difference left between w8 and w10?

maybe puddle lamps ? electrical seat adjustments? is the price deference between W10 Auto and W8 Auto justified with some of the features available in premium vehicles removed?

W10 AT still has sunroof, power seats, reverse cam with dynamic guidelines, driver window express up, hydraulic bonnet assist along with some cosmetics like chrome window lining and illuminated scuff plates.

That said, i think that difference between W8 AT and W10 AT, should not be same as W8 and W10.

W10 AT should have been discounted a bit for those missing features.

There is another factor lockup clutch which leads to good effeciency.
Torque converter gearboxes these days have a lock up clutch which engages when converter slip is below 10%. In most four speed boxes this happens only in fourth gear leading to big difference in in city and highway effeciency. In 6 speed boxes like those in Creta and Santafe the lock up occurs third gear onwards, in some boxes it can happen even in second. The vehicles need enough weight for the shift shock caused by the locking to be absorbed.

Took a test drive today (manual). This was the first time in my life driving XUV.

I drive Vento and Cedia. This was definitely different. Overall, it was good experience but it did not feel premium or well built like Vento. Having said that I'm thinking about going forward with W10 AT. Currently the dealer here in Ahmedabad is expecting delivery in second week of December . Fingers crossed!
