Smile Re: Indian cars to become "Child Seat" friendly from October 2014

Use of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) will become mandatory from April, 2016. But for vehicle manufacturer's it will be mandatory from April, 2015.

There are five categories of CRS
Group 0, Group 0+, Group I, Group II and Group III.
Selection of CRS will be based on weight, height and age of the child.

Hope this will not die down like the helmet law and seat belt law.

Just happened to come across this thread.

Obviously this hasn't happened yet, but I'm wondering if there have been any updates here?

Interestingly, I just saw this in the BRV thread two days back and was wondering what is this CRS provided as an accessory.

First time I'm seeing anything like it in the accessories list. So may be there has been some positive developments on this topic.

In 2013, when I was out shopping for my next car, I visited a Maruti showroom.

My specific requirement was installing two child seats in the rear.
The Ertiga seat had a hump in the middle, which caused my child seats to keep rolling away.

So the showroom guys asked me to try with the accessories they had.
I have not seen such horrible and delicate child seats in any shop till now.

Without standards for child seats, this law will have no effect in keeping kids safe.
