India may become only small car hub for hyundai

Hyundai Motor India’s managing director HS Lheem does not rule out the possibility of India eventually becoming the only Hyundai operation worldwide which will produce small cars for global consumption.

Hyundai is betting big here. Currently the santro is made only in India, and if plans go on fine, all hyundai small cars for global consumption will be made in India. Way to go!

Not only that, say goodbye to detroit diesel

In fact, Hyundai appears to be betting big on the diesel segment. Lheem says the Korean parent has successfully developed 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre diesel engines and both of these will be introduced in India in the near future. He acknowledged that the 1.2 litre engine will be fitted on to the Getz, adding that a diesel Sonata and a 1.5-litre diesel Verna are also to be launched in the country this year.

Hyundai plans to get its own crdi engines rather than import them from detroit diesel. This means cheaper crdi and no long waiting periods too

This is awesome news - Hyundai has always given Indians latest technology in their cars - They have big confidence in the Indian Car Market & Indian Car Manufacturing Capability.

Hope other car manufacturers learn from their past mistakes & bet big on Technology & Manufacturing Investments in India.

hmmm.... i just hope that their new diesels are as good as the ones they imported from detriot diesel. because their petrol engines are not something great . diesel was something good about hyundai , and i hope that their new engines prove their metal in the indian market, jus like the previous accent /viva crdi has done. i dont say sonata n elantra as both the cars were not great success in the indian market.
