Maruti would unleash their latest trump in the form of 'AMT' in this model for sure and then you could imagine the hype it will get!

I feel this is just an update on the Alto 800, on sale since 2012. Alto 800 with a K10 engine doesnt make sense at all. It will simply eat sales of the Celerio.

I wont be surprised if this is the "Alto 800 facelift" rather than a Alto800 K10

There's already a new Alto K10 and it's called the Celerio!

Facelift for the Alto800 would be too early as the car is not even three years old. An Alto K10 based on Alto800 would kill the Celerio, since it would be way cheaper.

The other options can be:
1. Celerio with 1.2lt engine, rumored Ritz replacement (unlikely)
2. Celerio with 800cc diesel engine (quite possible)
3. Export-spec Celerio as it hasn't been launched overseas, IIRC
4. Alto800 with AMT

This looks more or less like the Alto 800. Ugly looking as such IMO.

What is it with the air dams in the front bumper of the new Marutis ?
I fail to understand why Maruti implements those half covered, non linear air dams ? Half of them have open grille and half of them closed. That too in an uneven pattern. I know its for cooling the engine, but then uniformity is something, isn't it ?

Asking because just saw some closeups and it seems that this Alto too has a similar air damn feature, but a little different from the original Alto 800.

Any technicalities that these help in the dynamics of the car ? How would non-linear pattern pattern help in dynamics ?

Quite sure this is the much needed facelift for the Alto 800 along with a K10 motor. The Eon got the Kappa 2 1L and the Go has come with a bigger pot. About time I would say.

And even though the Alto K10 has quite a lot of fans here and rightly so, the platform is just too old and not as safe as well. So, right decision by MSIL to upgrade the Alto 800 on both front. If they can add AMT to this package, the mystical cloud as called out by bblost is going get a lot bigger.

Seems like they are planning to mess up one more cute looking model ( probably the last good-looking small car in their stable).

They just need a facelift for namesake. And with the facelift, they can increase the mileage claim as well. That is what they have been doing with all facelifts.

IIRC , the ARAI mileage figure of 2013 wagonR was increased from 18 to 20 with the facelift, with no changes in engine/power-output. I don't think there is any noticeable real world difference in mileage between a 2012 & 2013 WagonR. It is relatively easy for these manufacturers to boost the ARAI figures, but not so in real-world conditions.

Alto 800 - resembles figo from the front
Celerio - resembles Etios from front & Alto 800 from back
So I am waiting anxiously to know which car's face is going to be cloned on this facelift.

Even I have wondered about this abnormality. Infact, I had a bit of trouble installing DRLs on my WagonR air-dam.Only the left-side dam was open and the right-side was closed. So had to drill the closed part for taking out the wires, and fixing the clamps etc.
But I was not aware that all new maruti vehicles are like this. After reading this post only I came to know that.
Infact, on close-up view, this uneven, asymmetric air-dam design looks plain ugly in my opinion!

Is there any technical reason why they design it like this, in-spite of this ugliness?

Completely agree. K10 has a lot of fans here due to its 'pocket - rocket' credentials and not due to its looks IMO. They must also make this car lot more safer then the current version.

So, the bootlid and those ugly headlamps of the current alto800 are changed in this facelift! Hope this change will come in both 800 and 1000cc versions.

This is their version of 'snappy'

Every modification, I mean EVERY modification that MSIL has carried out on its own has made the car MUCH worse than the original Japanese design.

The jelly-bean Zen to the joke of a Zen, the third generation 800 (with the rear bumper jutting out and a stupid smiling front), the original 1000/Esteem to the last version, the Alto 800 - looks like it's made of cardboard(the Alto K10 is sort of smart), the previous gen Wagon R.

Why on earth can't they leave the beautiful designs alone? Just to add a nip & tuck and call it a 2014 model??

The following aesthetics issue in the old Alto800 (bulging rear lamp area) is also sorted out, I guess.

I really wish that the longer snout of the Alto has more than K10, I wish for an Alto K12!

Well spotted! Another improvement is the rear bumper. Thankfully, it's beefier and protrudes out a bit more now, offering better protection to the tail lamps and hatch.

The rear window is the same but the tailgate has been redesigned along with the rear combination lamps and bumpers. Not too sure about changes to the rear door though. Looks same as the current Alto 800 to my eyes. The car does look longer though. As far as interior space is concerned it is M800 > Alto > Alto 800. So its getting more and more cramped with every passing iteration/generation.
