Remember they had a similar issue some 5 years back when launching Ritz, which was marketed as Suzuki Splash.

Since Splash was registered under Chevrolet, they had to take the Ritz badge. However, Chevrolet Splash was launched as Spark in India.

Maruti may consider to ' Across' or 'Crossa', both of which have been registered by Suzuki.

Z-Cross or Z-King (SeaKing) may be a better name than "Crossa", IMO.

As per my knowledge, it was not Chevy, but Ford who had registered the name "Splash" for their Ranger series.

They may not use SX4 Cross as it will be getting perceptions in the minds of customers relating it to SX4 that was a market dud from sales point of view.

Needs a different name to get some identity AFAIK.

Motorbeam has reported that Maruti may well launch the S-Cross this April !!

S-cross Launch

What is even more tantalizing is that it is more or less assured to come in with the 1.6 Petrol & Diesel versions.

With a projected price of 14 Lks (ex showroom), 210 mm Grnd Clearance, 105 Bhp Petrol, 120 Bhp Diesel, Modern looks and most importantly "Maruti" badge, many a competition will get "Dusted" (pun intended ) off !!

210 mm of ground clearance would be fantastic.

the s-cross sold in other countries has nothing much in terms of ground clearance -- 170 mm to be precise.

and, going by the looks, the mules spotted over here didn't have much of gc.

Hope s-cross will have at least 200 mm of gc and ABOVE ALL a decent name

Hope Maruti is not playing the same trick which M&M played with the ground clearance of XUV - i.e. use two different conventions for measuring GC. One measures the distance between the lowest part of the vehicle and ground and the other measures the distance between the lowest metallic part of the vehicle and ground.

That pricing seems optimistic, to put it mildly. 14 Lacs ex-showroom for the top-end is dangerously close to XUV category which is a proper big car, not a blown up hatchback with increased GC like the Ecosport, Duster & Terrano.

Maruti have an exciting product but need to tread cautiously in the million rupee+ segment where they've been burned before. The launch will be interesting!

Not sure if people will pay what they are expecting. It might not look good against Duster too. So they need a heartbreak it looks like.

The multijet 2, if launched by Fiat would offer the Peugeot 1.6 Hdi some tough competition. Some stats-

1. The multijet 2 diesel engines makes 8 injections per cycle as compared to the 1.6 Hdi's 5 injections per cycle.

2. The multijet 2 has torque figures of 320 Nm at only 1500 rpm, compared to the 1.6 Hdi's 270 Nm at 1750 rpm.

3. The multijet 2 and the Peugeot 1.6 Hdi both have same power figures-120hp.

4. The Fiat multijet 2 has a bore x stroke of 79.5x80.5. The Peugeot 1.6 Hdi has a bore x stroke of 75x88.3.

5. The Fiat multijet 2 has a compression ratio of 16.5, whereas the Peugeot 1.6 Hdi has a compression ratio of 16.

Based on the above data, can we predict which of the above diesel engines would be a better choice if engine performance is the only criteria for a car-buyer?

Maruti seem to be very cautious on pricing the S Cross , needing to cater to both segments- those who are price conscious and the other who does need performance. Parts sharing from Swift is imminent to contain cost.

Top varaint to get the AWD, LED daytime running lamps, leather seats and steering cover, automatic air conditioning, etc.

The Suzuki S-Cross SX4 will be offered in two diesel and one petrol engine. The oil burners will be -1.6-litre multi-jet (118bhp and 320Nm) and a 1.3-litre MJD (89bhp and 200Nm). The gasoline model will get a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 120bhp and 156Nm of torque.

The S cross if priced ex showroom at 14 lakhs, will NEVER EVER SELL. I would pickup a Duster/Innova/XUV over this anyday. The X cross just does not have the perception of a Big car like the one's I mentioned above.

+1 to humyum

I think 14Lakhs INR is just a speculation. It can sell at 9 to 12L, but at 14L you will get a bigger car in the XUV with 2.2L engine and additional seats for 2. I would definitely pick the XUV if I were to put that kind of money on a car with high GC.

Wow if S-Cross is launching it's gonna make my decision that bit more difficult! Surprising that MSIL is able to launch the 1.6 MJD before Fiat?! I'm still gonna take this news with a pinch of salt. If it really came with the 1.6 MJD, then the pros (1.6 MJD, 6 speed manual, DRLs, premium interiors, MSIL reliability and service) outweigh the cons (don't like crossovers, SUVs).

BTW, those headlamps look a size too big in relation to the grille. I wish it was a size smaller looking more proportionate.
