Default Import duty on Go-Karts?

Anyone knows what's the import duty on 200cc go kart cars in India ? Say for the 6.5bhp or 12bhp models.

Does the 120% tax that applies to regular cars also apply to go kart cars and if not how is it calculated ?

Would appreciate replies from experienced or people in the customs know how.

Nope, GoKarts aren't subject to the astronomical import duties of regular cars.

Checked with someone I know who ran a gokart track. Apparently, the various duties & cess comes up to about 30% in total.

The information should be there on the customs website itself but for specific information you can buy "The handbook on Indian Custom & Excise" gives even the minutest of details, available at bookstores all over the country and an essential reference item at every custom clearing agent's office.

Hi Stanjohn, did you managed to import the Go-kart? Sorry to bump an old thread, but I would like to know if you were able to import the Go-kart and what duties were applied.

Import duties on any go kart , petrol engine or electric motor , is covered under Chapter 87 of the HC Code and can be anywhere between 110 % and 118 % of the total assessable value (COST+FREIGHT+INSURANCE). The custom duty mentioned herein pertains to the year 2010.
Hope that helps.

Hi Manish. I didn't import the Go-karts as I ventured into another business but what I do know is, it's better to get these go-karts from dealers here directly as the prices are competitive and you get service back up as well.

There are many dealers here in India.

Thanks for the reply, it makes sense in buying a gokart from here rather than importing it.
