Thumbs up Fiat Grande Punto and the new Fiat Sedan; Tata-Fiat JV

" Tata Motors Ltd. and the Fiat group on Tuesday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish an industrial joint venture in India to make passenger vehicles, engines and transmissions for domestic and overseas markets. Fiat and Tata vehicles both are to be made in Fiat's Ranjangaon manufacturing complex near Pune. The facilities are expected to exceed an overall capacity of one lakh cars and 2.50 lakh engines and transmissions. Fiat will introduce, among others, its premium cars for B and C segments (Fiat Grande Punto and the new Fiat Sedan) and its successful small diesel engine. "

So the Palio stays and maybe it will come with a new 1.1 Engine too. But a new Sedan? Which one? Any clue guys?

It will bomb badly at a price like that. It can be priced against the Swift/SRV etc. Anything above that will result in poor sales.

Maybe they can position it as a Sports Recreational Vehicle and launch it with a powerfull engine at around 6.5L with all the bells and whistles.
A 3 door version could also be launched at a cheaper price.
But if launched in normal trim, 5L would be the max one would pay otherwise its a sure bomber.
Cheers

ACI had mentioned in its July edition that Fiat is planning to price it agressively b'ween 5 and 7 lakhs. I believe they are planning to have several trim levels starting from 5l.

Fiat has released a new sedan called Perla ("pearl" in Italian) in China today. It is allegedly targetted towards the developing countries. The styling is pretty conservative in my opinion. I do not have any more details except that it is released with a 1.7 litre petrol engine in China. It is also based on the 178 (Palio/Petra/Adventure) platform and is supposed to be bigger and "more preimum" as compared to Sienna in China. This news can be viewed at www.italiaspeed.com. Is this going to be the sedan for India that Fiat is talking about?

If this gets the 1.3 JTD Dsl engine right from the launch, this car is a sure hit between 5 - 6.5 lacs.
