Will the ix25 also be launched in India? Is yes, will not be an overlap between the i20 Cross and this?

Not sure of your question. Hyundai will release the i20 Cross(< 4m) in March and the ix25 (>4m) later in India.

i20 Cross will compete with the Pseudo Cuv's like Etios Cross, Polo Cross,Avventura, etc. and maybe the Ecosport too while the ix25 will take on Duster and Terrano and Maruti's upcoming S Cross.

Unnecessarily Hyundai including one flop model under their belt named i20 cross. IMHO the money and efforts they are putting on cross is sheer waste, because if they want to sell in other markets(via exports), they need to re tune engine and suspension again followed by testing in those new territories.

I feel Hyundai is over confident about their cross offering after updating the node/head lights etc. For me they have not learnt a lesson or two from Avventura/Polo cross/Etios cross sales figures. I have hardly spotted any of those pseudo cross overs on Bangalore roads. Once ix25 is launched i20 cross will become obsolete for sure. Lastly it will be suicidal for Hyundai to rival Ecosport with this cross offering.

Atleast it is not the same here in Chennai. I can regularly spot the cross overs and I can see a decent demand for them. Every manufacturer want to enter a new segment and that's exactly what Hyundai is trying to do. If the I20 cross differentiates itself from the I20 elite from engine to performance, I am sure it will attract a handful of customers.

Taking into account how the other Cross variants of rival car companies have been priced according to engine specs, body kits and extra features on offer, here is my assumption about the possible pricing of the Elite i20 Cross variants (if they are offered in the same lineup as the Elite i20):

This pricing should help Hyundai India plug the pricing gap between the Elite i20 and the Verna quite neatly.

Of course, final prices will depend on how Hyundai India prices the facelifted Verna, due to be launched next month.

Here in Bangalore, I have sighted more Etios Crosses than the Cross Polo or Avventura. Of course the most sighted Crossover is the Ecosport

Coming to i20 Cross, I feel there is definitely some mechanical change under the hood. Either a bigger petrol engine or a diesel engine in a different tune or an auto box. At least one of them should be in offer. I also feel Hyundai will not call it a i20 Cross, iX20 will be a more suitable name. Perfectly placing it between i20 and iX25

Hyundai is giving projectors + LED DRLs + new set of alloys to i20 Cross. If they can also give a different grille + sporty interiors + one of the above mentioned mechanical change + more safety features this will become a different car (at least to the mass market). Rumors also suggest the wheelbase is changing. If all this becomes true, this car will plainly compete the Ecosport and there is no reason it should do bad.

Hyundai is definitely aiming this and that is why there are giving multiple variants to this car as well. But if it simply going to be a version with extra cladding and some extra features, this will face the fate of its Cross competitors.

The latest round of spy pics during an off-roading testing ride reveal the increased ground clearance, different alloys, projectors up front, LED DRLs, and roof rails on the i20 Cross.

Two test mules of the upcoming i20 Cross reveal the impressive ground clearance as well as the new alloy wheels that will be exclusively available on the hatchback turned crossover. Based on the new generation Hyundai Elite i20, the i20 Cross is a rugged version aimed to give an SUV-like stance with the comforts of owning a hatchback. Compared to the hatchback, the crossover will come with an upgraded suspension set-up upgraded to take on rough roads effortlessly while the feature list will also see updates to differentiate the model more effectively.
Seen in the spy shots, the i20 Cross gets projector headlamps, daytime running lights, roof rails and 16-inch alloys as standard on the vehicle.
In addition, the ruggedness will be further displayed with black body cladding on the front and rear bumpers as well as the sides. The Hyundai i20 Cross will carry over all the colours from the Elite i20 with the Midas gold and Red passion spotted on the test mules.

I hope the i20 cross is based on the i20 for international markets which is >4m, this will allow Hyundai to give it the 1.4 litre petrol engine instead of the 1.2 and of course price it even higher

The GC looks good in these pictures. Although the new i20 has a decent 170 mm, additional GC is always welcome because of that long front overhang. The i20 Cross looks like it should be able to negotiate unscientific speed breakers and steep entrance/exit ramps with ease.

I hope they also add an underbody engine bay protector, preferably one that's made of metal. If not metal, then at least sturdy plastic, but it should offer full engine bay protection (including the oil sump). The current plastic piece attached to the front bumper protects only the radiator and associated paraphernalia, and is inadequate. If they're going to market a hatch with added bits as a cross variant, then they should at least add a few functional bits. A rear fog lamp or at least a second reverse light is also required.

Auto-locking doors are another much needed feature for a country like India, and enabling the FE/DTE feature on the MID would also be appreciated. I believe the required hardware is already present, but for some strange & inexplicable reason they have not provided these two features. It should be quite a simple thing to include these in the i20 Cross, and eventually on the i20 as well.

I would personally prefer a sub-4m i20 Cross with their new 1.0 Kappa T-GDI engine. This combo (alongside the 1.4 U2 CRDi option) should enable them to keep the price tag reasonable. An overpriced Cross variant would hardly find any takers.

Wow!!! Awesome stuff Jay and RavenAvi!!!

I was wondering if Hyundai would ever give the aggressive looking front of the European i20 Coupe to India. This one has the inverted hexagonal grille.

http://www.motorbeam.com/2015/02/car...come-to-india/

When I was Jay's post of the rear of i20 Active with revised bumpers and a different reverse light + rear fog lamp, I was hoping the front end is also revised and is similar to the European i20 Coupe. And there comes RavenAvi's post to confirm my thoughts.

I somehow like this front than the Elite i20's. Looks more aggressive to me!!! Well done Hyundai!!!

Thanks a ton both of you. Apart from the redesigned fog lamps and reversing lamps, I also see that the C pillar is Gloss Black now, just like the Euro version.

Can anyone confirm if the projector lights in the Hyundai Verna are for Low beam only or are they Bi-xenon? If Bi-xenon, then hopefully i20 also has Bi-xenons.
Hyundai's over dose of equipment has reached a new high.

Also at what price point can we expect this car? How much more than the i20 asta?

Thank you - JayD, RavenAvi and Abhijeet More (who I believe is following this thread!)

It looks like the car is being readied for a photo/ad session. Both bumpers are new, with the circular light insert treatment and inverted hexagonal front grill. And of course, details like the cladding all round, roof rails, projector headlamps, LED DRLs and a bit more GC.

Sadly it looks like there is only one reverse lamp like the Elite i20, with the circular insert on the other side being just a reflector. How much more would it cost to add a second reverse lamp or a rear fog lamp inside the other circular housing?

Anyone noticed the circular fuel filler cover on the i20 Active? It looks like one of those faux "aircraft type" cover found on some bikes, instead of the regular one.

P.S.: It's good that the long roof antenna has been replaced by a short, stubby one!
