Could be but then the YBA is a different segment altogether with S Cross being the most premium in their S/CUV range as of now.

As the YBA is a compact (<4m) UV it will not have the space and premium feel as seen in the S Cross( 4.3m in L).

IMHO Mahindra S101 looks better than this, but it's too early to comment now may be. I think both these will be unveiled at the auto expo 2016. But looking at the available camouflaged pictures of both the cars I will say S101 will be a better offering.

Well I expect the Suzuki to be better engineered than S101 which is squarely aimed at the Indian Market and may not meet international levels in terms of quality, refinement and ergonomics.

Agree completely. The quality levels will be very very different, just as the case of price. Otherwise, Maruti would not have designed a new car from scratch, and would have just chopped off 170mm from international Vitara (which is just 4170mm in length) to make it under 4m.

I for one am extremely excited and looking forward to this car. Either the XA-Alpha or the S-Cross should come home next year. The only reason I haven't bitten the bullet on the S-Cross is that it's not urgent and I really want to see the XA-Alpha before taking the decision. Since the time I saw the concept at the previous Auto Expo, I have been waiting with baited breath for this one.

Some thinking on the potential pricing keeping in mind this should slot in between Baleno & S-Cross while being slightly below the Ciaz gave me the below (note that prices are ex-Mumbai, prices taken as on date from the Maruti websites, only diesel has been considered, and no discounts have been factored):

The Baleno pricing:
  • Baleno Alpha DDiS 190: 848,623
  • Baleno Zeta DDiS 190: 775,336
  • Baleno Delta DDiS 190: 712,498
  • Baleno Sigma DDiS 190: 644,947

The S-Cross pricing:
  • S-Cross DDiS 200 Alpha: 1,135,677
  • S-Cross DDiS 200 Zeta: 999,000
  • S-Cross DDiS 200 Delta: 967,862
  • S-Cross DDiS 200 Sigma: 883,331

The Ciaz pricing:
  • CIAZ SHVS ZDI+, or, Alpha: 1,093,347
  • CIAZ SHVS ZDI, or, Zeta: 984,201
  • CIAZ SHVS VDI+, or, Delta: 937,305
  • CIAZ SHVS VDI (O), or, Sigma: 891,647

Now, for XA-Alpha, I have taken average of Baleno and S-Cross. Doing this ensured the car slots in between and at the same time is cheaper than the Ciaz:
  • XA-Alpha DDiS 200 Alpha: 992,150
  • XA-Alpha DDiS 200 Zeta: 887,168
  • XA-Alpha DDiS 200 Delta: 840,180
  • XA-Alpha DDiS 200 Sigma: 764,139

Differences in the cars:
  • XA to Baleno: Rs 125k higher
  • XA to Ciaz: Rs 100k lower
  • XA to S-Cross: Rs 125k lower

I believe these prices should hold well and allow Maruti enough space across cars and variants while at the same time keeping customers in their showrooms. Now only if they can solve the stupid NEXA puzzle and either get the Ciaz in there or sell all the cars together!

I believe Maruti has to price it aggressively. There is a range of options these days and with new models lined up, they have to consider pricing very well.

In my opinion, the ex-showroom pricing of base diesel model should start from not more than 6.99 and for top model the ex-showroom should not exceed for 8.99 lacs.

It has to compete against likes of a wonderful looking EcoSport/Duster that recently had a midlife facelift - so it still gonna sell well in coming times too. Newly launched TUV and couple of more upcoming urban SUVs!

Anything beyond 10 lacs on road, people will happily put their money on the full size SUVs - Scorpio/Safari!

And that makes sense too.

Not necessarily. The biggest competitor to the XA would be the EcoSport in my opinion. I had checked out the prices of the EcoSport and they are just a shade below S-Cross prices! Pl see the Mumbai prices below (ex-Mumbai, diesel only, from Ford website and no discounts factored). I believe Maruti has got good amount of room considering immediate competition as well.

So there seem to be 3 C/SUV's in the pipeline from Maruti Suzuki.

1. YBA - the subcompact <4 m, confirmed for early 2016 - Reports now indicate this will be sold through regular Maruti dealers. ( not sure this is true)

Quote:
Unlike the Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback that is exclusively available through NEXA premium dealerships, the YBA compact SUV will be sold through normal Maruti Suzuki outlets.
Quote:
The Maruti Vitara Brezza will be powered by a 1.3-litre MJD ( 90HP-VGT) diesel engine that also powers the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. However, it is quite early to comment whether it will get Suzuki's mild hybrid technology- SHVS. This engine is capable of producing 90PS of top power along with a peak torque of 200Nm

2. Suzuki Ignis - (3.7m long) - Festive season 2016, to rival Mahindra's S101, Not yet confirmed. Could be using the Normal Maruti sales network

3. The New Vitara ( >4 m length) - Full featured, AT, Not confirmed yet, could be a 2017 launch using the Nexa Premium outlets. Could be the most expensive Maruti product produced locally.

All 3 products are likely to be displayed at the Auto Expo 2016.

This is why I think it will be a better offering, made specifically keeping Indian needs in perspective. Made in India, designed and engineered for India and by an Indian manufacturer.
Mahindra has given us the Bolero, the mighty Scorpio, XUV500, recently launched the Tank, TUV300 which are all quite accomplished products and game changers in their respective segments. Well that is just my opinion ofcourse. I believe S101 will be loaded will all the bells and whistles and adequate safety equipments like seen on all the recent offerings from Mahindra. While YBA might sport the same 1.3 national diesel with SVHS, will offer some features and few safety measures but will miss out on a lot in comparison to the competition but still will be a little overpriced and would outsell the competition totally.
That said, MSIL manufacturers quality products, second to non. I own a Dzire (2013), and its an outstanding product, I absolutely love it. Best part is Maruti ASS which is just superb. I also had a Mahindra Verito and I recently bought a Xylo H4(ABS) and in my opinion it's the best your money can buy if you are looking at a proper 7-8 seater, I would rate it above innova, again just my perspective. I would rate Mahindra ASS excellent as per my experience. And they are getting better with each product.

The car which is scooped may not be the top model as it never had leather seats. Build quality seems to be similar to the Scross, interior quality is also top notch apart a few shared parts with its cheaper siblings. The car has similar dimensions to the Creta. Car was pretty roomy and boot was pretty big as well.
All these observations were made by Pankaj who sat in the car.
What I don't get is how will they price it? If it priced competitively, the Scross would stop selling. Price it a little higher then Creta may knock it. Anyway, lots of choice now for pseudo SUV seekers.

Are sou sure Pankaj has sat down in this new sub-4m SUV? Could be the international Vitara which is similar in size of Creta.

No way this sub-4m SUV can be priced above SCross. IMO, its Petrol base version will start at 5.99L.

I asked for his opinion on the car, he is a friend of mine.

I don't know what confusion is going on but I don't think that this is the baby vitara! Doesn't look sub 4M to me but could be wrong since I wasn't there. This does seem to be Vitara rather than the Brezza and my friend also agrees. This definitely looks larger than the ecosport to me.

This is the YBA- Vitara Brezza (<4m) and not the NEW Vitara. This is an India specific compact UV and will rival the EcoSport.

This is the reason YBA is being brought by in Maruti, to be a segment lower than S Cross in both petrol and diesel variants and catering to both segments -A Premium Cross over and the Sub Compact Utility Vehicle.
