iK-2 – Suzuki’s new compact hatchback concept

The iK-2, the smartest compact car developed by pursuit of compact hatchback ideals and built around the theme of “Harmonised Force.” All elements expected in a car of this size — design, utility, comfort, manoeuvrability, driving performance, fuel efficiency are all combined at a high level to raise compact car values to the limit.
Features
  • - The Liquid Flow, suggestive of the dynamism of an energetic movement of liquid with its low, wide silhouette, giving the car a classy, elegant, yet dynamic look.
  • - It delivers a dynamic, efficient driving performance thanks to its new-generation platform and the 1.0L BOOSTERJET engine, a new direct-injection turbo petrol unit.
  • - Overall length 4,023mm x width 1,920mm x height 1,450mm
iM-4 - Suzuki’s new mini 4x4 concept

The iM-4, the iconic mini 4x4 which expands possibilities and enjoyment of a compact car. Following the theme of “Shape the Inspiration”, the iconic mini 4x4 integrates Suzuki’s DNA in the field of developing compact 4x4’s with the latest technology, all in a distinctively designed package, and gives real inspiration to drivers.
Features
  • - This car is designed to be simple yet iconic, pure yet lovable, and innovative yet retro.
  • - Suzuki design essense including blacked-out A- and B-pillars, clamshell bonnet, and front fender garnishes are incorporated throughout the vehicle. The configuration of the area around and behind the C-pillar incorporate slits that pay tribute to historic minicars such as the Fronte Coupé and the first Cervo.
  • - With its 4WD system, high minimum ground clearance, and high hip point, the iM-4 is designed to be your credible partner that is easy to drive while also offering performance that lets you confidently drive in snow and on unpaved roads.
  • - Incorporates cutting-edge technology with a new-generation platform and SHVS mild hybrid system, which deliver excellent fuel consumption with low CO2 emissions.
  • - Overall length 3,693mm x width 1,709mm x height 1,566mm
...

1. A new-generation and lightweight platform that improves basic vehicle performance (used for iK-2 and iM-4)
  • - Suzuki’s new-generation platform is designed to efficiently increase rigidity while reducing weight via a fundamental redesign of the underbody’s structure and also optimising overall vehicle design, including parts mounted on the underbody. This improves fuel efficiency, safety, handling, stability, and NVH performance across the board.
  • - By modularizing functional components, it will enable bringing out new cars in a more efficient way that can be tailored to fast-changing market demand.

Please dont take offence, but do you work for Maruti? This post sounds like an out and out marketing flyer by Maruti on TeamBHP!

Do you have more details of this car to say this? It was mentioned by the company that it will be a 4x4.

Your description suits more for Hyundai i20 cross, Toyota Etios cross and Fiat Punto cross.
Wheels at four corners. Basic shape of the countryman. Headlights at extreme ends.. if it's not a mini fixation I don't know what is? Even the swift was a copy of the mini..and mere 4×4 capability makes a hatch a SUV?

The 'new generation' ladder-on-frame (?) chassis for these cars means other body panels may be very very light weight as those parts don't need to take the responisibility of holding the entire structure. Are we going back from the era of monocoque designs?

No offense taken, but sharing the information here means advertisement? There may be many people here who are looking for a proper replacement for their small hatches. This info is for them, not for people going ga-ga over over-hyped, under-performing, highly-priced and un-ECOnomic 'foreign' cars.

Totally disappointed with iM-4. How can this design take over Jimny/Gypsy? This is a typical Japanese toy car design!

I don't know where the competition will run and how many days their plants will be shut down for when the Ik2 comes to India. THIS THING IS SWEET.

My cheque book is ready, come on Maruti ! LAUNCH !

The Booster jet engine looks quite impressive from the video. It has a steep increase in both power & torque. Above that a turbocharged direct injection petrol engine. One among the very few turbocharged petrol engine in the industry. Come on Maruti.

Suzuki new Boosterjet engine, a 1,000 cc 3-cylinder turbo with direct injection. The engine also expected to be efficient, and as powerful as the TSI and EcoBoost.

Suzuki currently are still in research phase for its feature, so it can compete in a global market later on.

Suzuki's iK-2 rendered as Coupe.

The Suzuki iK-2 Concept, for example, appeared in Geneva with four doors, but it could well follow the footsteps of brother and Swift have a "Coupe" option sportier option when you reach the European market.
As will be a larger and more expensive model than the Swift, Suzuki iK-2 with two doors - which should naturally have another name - could reach 1.4 Turbo engine with MultiAir Fiat, delivering between 160 and 180 hp, as well as being equipped with exchange dual-clutch TCT.

Fail to see the resemblance? The shoulder line is distinct, the profile is too, the details are even more distinct. The only similarity is the high rear bumper.

So, in a nutshell, iK-2 looks like YRA hatch and iM-4 looks like the new Alto Turbo! So much for mini-SUV rumours!

Personally not excited by either of the two, though the ik-2 could give a good fight to the i20.
What is interesting is that it is wider than an A6/5/E?!
May just turn out to be a handful in traffic, though more comfortable than the Ciaz!

The width mentioned here is including the wing mirrors, as that is a common way of mentioning width in Europe. The actual width may be some 150-200 mm less, at around 1750mm.
