In my opinion, the size of this extra bag is too small to project that "Ciaz" boot is bigger. Also, most of them will not even notice this extra bag. If this was the real intention, then definitely Maruti would have used a bigger bag. So it looks to be a coincidence.
As per technical specification, I see both the boots are at 510L.

Wow! The power of Team BHP. 'Mystery' solved within 24 hrs.

Learnt never to trust the marketing material.

As to why they used the same luggage, was it to show that the Ciaz has a bigger boot? Or was it the same ad agency who got stingy and didn't want to spend another 60 - 70 dollars on the 3D models?

Exactly Arun, both cars have a 510 L boot - the use of a bigger bag will make it look fake and the ones who observe will definitely have this question from the buyer - "HOW??"

Now, using these images, Maruti can claim that even though technically both cars have same boot space, Ciaz has more usable space and extra width. A cheeky attempt for sure, but will be effective if buyers compare the brochures.

The point is: since the luggage are same to same, it will be easy to catch the attention of even a casual observer. Also makes the job much easier for the sales executive to emphasize the point - "See we have more usable space and we can prove it - see the pics yourself"

Yes, slicvic, as so many others have remarked, you certainly have an eagle-eye - or rather a surgeon's eye (I'm assuming you're a surgeon!). But it's certainly a point to ponder about - I mean do the advertisers really believe that all viewers are somnambulists and won't notice the fact? Or, as seems more likely, it was done deliberately to highlight one over the other - using just one extra lap-top bag!

Absolutely - in fact how one loads the boot is vital. I'm quite dismal at this. My wife on the other hand is highly skilled - and can neatly pack most of the household (including the dogs) and still have space left over for shopping.

Commenting on the old 'luggage' thread...too many coincidences shared between the Ciaz and the City. First the Ciaz and City shared identical tail lamps and now even the luggage!! Who is following whom or sheer too many coincidences?

Obviously as City has been the undisputable sales leader of this segment for four generations.

To Hyundai's credit though, when the fourth generation City was launched, Verna was the benchmark to beat for the new City. Tables were turned once again post the launch of both City and Ciaz.

Both products were developed in parallel. City was revealed earlier, but Ciaz spy pics were out earlier than that with the taillamp design being evident. They were no clear spy pictures of the City from anywhere around the world, so as for MS to go and copy it.
