So if they are selling the Swift more than everything else, why are they bringing the Fronx? The Swift belongs to the Grand i10 segment & not the Elite i20. The Fronx is coming clearly to compete against the Elite & Jazz. Only time will tell whose matter gets worse.

If I remember correctly the Getz was positioned against the Swift and was trounced badly. Then came the i20 and now the price have been gradually increased that it became a segment of its own.

Maruti are bringing another car because they can. There is a huge price difference between the Swift and i20 and the Fronx can be slot in that gap.

As I said earlier, they are bringing Fronx to make matter worse for others. That should be Maruti's intentions as a company.

I am hearing about MSIL's bad days since Hyundai launched Santro. I will love to see matter getting worse for Maruti as it will definitely benefit the end users/consumers, i.e. us. I have not driven or sat inside Grand i10 and thus can not comment on its category but last gen petrol i20 is definitely in same category as Swift.

I want the 'time' to come sooner than later so as to enjoy that before I am too old to drive.

That is what I am saying. If Maruti's intentions are to make matters worse for others with the Fronx, I don't think it can succeed. As I said earlier, only time will tell whether the Fronx makes matter worse for others or not. I never said anything about MSIL's bad days.

Wish they name it something like:
• Trump
• Twister
• Tesla

Why T? – Because as they graduate they go from Alto to Celerio to Ritz to Swift. So next is T... I know there are exceptions, WagonR, Ciaz etc.

Preferences could also be:
• Velocity (after Swift)
• Class
• Signature
• GenX
• Xtreme
• YuRekA (after YRA)

Thanks,

How can people compare a grand i10 with a swift!? Celerio/ beat are the grand i10 matches.

As someone earlier said, Getz was supposed to fight swift and it ended up a royal flop. So did the i20, except for the last gen and current elite i20, which still don't match swift in sales.

Swift may be cheaper, but that doesn't make i20 a segment better nor swift a segment lower.
Agreed, i20 feels more upmarket and feature-laden, but it never had/ never will have the soul that the swift always had!

Well said. Swift is in a class of its own. First/second gen i20 were so boring compared to Swift in terms of looks and driving pleasure. Current i20, even though looks much better than earlier gen, still doesn't come closer to Swift in terms of driving pleasure. And Swift gives the feeling that you are driving a sharper car.

The YRA will be another i20 in terms of driving pleasure, and can't match Swift, IMO.

As per IAB report, Maruti YRA premium hatchback for India will not get turbo-petrol engine

Quote:
While the iK-2 concept debuted Suzuki’s all-new Boosterjet 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, this technology is still sometime away from finding its place in India, IndianAutosBlog.com understands.
Citing costs as one of the reason, a person with knowledge of the product said – “This engine will prove to be expensive for Indian consumers, and will be expensive for Maruti as well if its introduced on a single product. The market is slowly shifting towards downsized engines abroad, but this trend will still take sometime in India. We’re ready with the technology, it’s a matter of introducing it at the right time.”

While Ford and VW offer turbocharged petrol engines on the EcoSport and the Polo GT TSI respectively, these companies have different business cases. On the EcoSport, Ford India also exports the vehicle with the EcoBoost engine to markets in Europe, and can thus leverage costs, despite the EcoBoost being an imported unit.

The YRA when launched would share engines with the present crop of Maruti products. These include the K-Series petrol, and the DDiS diesel engines, the latter sourced from Fiat. However, the turbocharged petrol could be introduced later on in the product’s Indian lifecycle.

Suzuki's Premium Hatch the YRA will be built in India and will cater to Global demand and will take on Volkswagen's Polo, Fiat Punto and Ford Figo, or 'Ka', in the evolved markets of Europe and Asia Pacific.

Suzuki has chosen Maruti Suzuki over Hungary to serve the needs of Europe. The car will be premiered at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor show.

Quote:
The vehicle, which will make its way to Germany, Italy, the UK and even the home market of Japan, is likely to add incremental volumes of about 40,000 to 50,000 units per annum in the coming years, making it the biggest volume contributor to the overseas business going ahead
Maruti Suzuki has met the needs of entry level car buyers in Europe in the past with its A Star, but this is the first time that Suzuki is banking on its Indian subsidiary to race past Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto and other global heavyweights in their home turf with the YRA.

Quote:
The YRA hatchback is expected to be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.3 litre multijet diesel engine for the domestic market, but for the overseas market, the company has lined up new petrol engines: a 1 litre direct injection turbo charged engine codenamed K10C, and a little higher displacement 1.2 litre turbocharged engine codenamed K12C, and there is a 1.4 litre displacement engine.
Quote:
Of the 50,000 units to be produced in FY16, merely 10 per cent will go overseas before the company starts adding new markets in FY17, where the carmaker intends to export almost 40 per cent of YRA's production of 1,30,000 units.

Globally known as iK 2, Suzuki is testing this hatchback in Europe, spied earlier in Germany, now it is been seen testing in France.

The spin off of this is the YRA Premium hatch for India - the next to join Nexa along with the S Cross.

Suzuki's YRA/iK 2 - First drawings from the patent filed reveals its identity. European by design it will rival VW's Polo,Renault's Clio and Opel's Corsa. In India the main target will be Hyundai's Elite.

The designs confirm a volume important as regards the passenger compartment, a sign that Suzuki wants to overcome all the competitors as to space and interior space. The new small car will debut also an unprecedented platform, which will then be used by other future small house.

MANY NEW TECHNIQUES - The mechanical part will see the use of the new 3-cylinder engine turbo 1.0 Boosterjet named, but is almost certainly also a version equipped with the "mild hybrid" (hybrid light) that the house has announced for next year. This is based on the 4-cylinder mated to 1.2 Dualjet automatic AGS, already adopted by Celerio, and an alternator evolved integrating an internal electric motor, which has the triple function of goodwill, help the engine when starting and energy recovery during braking. Energy that is stored in a lithium-ion battery.

Suzuki's YRA/iK 2 trailer

Suzuki's YRA/iK 2 global debut at Frankfurt Motor show on 15th September.

Pretty sure it won't come to India as the New Baleno though!
