They better offer DSG as an option. I don't wanna pay 1.5 million rupees for a left-knee S&M fetish.

The reason for the manual could be because the DQ200 has a torque limit of 250Nm.

Hope they also upgrade the suspension, steering feedback and the brakes.

PS- VW purists will now cry foul at it not being a pure GTI. However, it's better than a pure GTI in my opinion if they can manage to price it sensibly as per our market demands.
Without the DSG it should not cross 10 Lakhs Ex Showroom!!
Minus the DSG from the GT TSI and add the bigger 1.8 engine and your cost should remain more or less the same. The GT TSI is about 8.xx Lakhs Ex showroom.

We can maybe give them a lakh extra for upgraded brakes and suspension and a little more for other goodies. But 13 lakhs for the MT, Indianised, made in India 'Polo GTI' will be unrealistic pricing IMO.

This. I would still gladly pay 1.8 million for the whole shebang. 189bhp, 250nM torque, DSG, sunroof (I'm vain - sue me :P). Tossable HOT hatch that still gets me through the ever increasing Bangalore traffic.

I'd rather have the manual. It is a hot hatch after al. Not a warm/touring hatch.

Barring the detuning bit, this is great news. 6 speed MT is welcome with both hands.

Why 168 HP when the Indian spec Octavia does 178?
Does anyone know if the 1.8 TSI used in European Polo GTI has different internals when compared to the 1.8 TSI sold here in India used in Octavia?

If not, this detuning should not be an issue. The big displacement and the manual gearbox should give it a big tuning potential as it can do 240+WHP and 370+Nm with a stage-2 remap alone as per a particular tuner on the Internet (225 WHP with stage 1 alone) That would make it worth 13L

This is very interesting news! If true, we could have an amazing package on our hands. The beautiful 1.8 TSI mated to a slick, 6-speed manual and more importantly, a reasonable price tag.

Maybe they took a leaf from Fiat's book - they launched the 'Indian' Abarth at a good price.

I will prefer an 'Indian' GTI at a realistic price tag than the full-fledged one that I can never afford.

Wow - After a pretty tough day this is great news, i pardon you VW for the emissions saga, bring the polo with the sweet 1.8 tsi and a manual.

From a pricing perspective, i would expect Ex showroom to be higher than 10L (if i see the abarth as any benchmark) Skoda did a laura bare bones version `just upwards of 10L Ex showroom a few years back.

Interesting times ahead.

Best

That is a pretty unrealistic expectation. By your statement, the DSG it self costs INR 3L (13L for GTi with DSG v/s 10L for GTi without DSG).
However, I still see the difference down to 2L for engine alone + 2-3L for added kit. Basing this on the price difference in the various Octavia trims.

I for one am very pleased for the manual option - this car will be a beast, tuner friendly, and whole lot more reliable in its manual form.

My my my my my!

I think most of us are happier at the manual gearbox option.

pocket rockets, usually fit in the pocket.

Any specific information on when is it expected.

Need to buy a car, quick. Have a case of the itch.

I waited about a year and a half for a manual variant of the petrol GT, before I decided on compromising by going for the diesel GT. (I still would have preferred a petrol, but a MT is a must until my knees give in)

Now they decide to come out with a massive upgrade on the engine with a 6 speed MT no less!!

I for one would find pricing in the vicinity of 12-13L definitely a steal if the specs are true. a 168 BHP is twice the power of hatches priced 8-9L.
Guess I'll have resign to my fate and wait for another 5 years or so before I can justify another new car itch.

13L for a Polo 1.8 TSI 6 Spd MT seemed a bit much when we used to get a Laura 1.8 TSI 6 Spd MT a few year back for exactly the same amount. The two segments higher Laura was well equipped too with all round disc brakes, 2 airbags, multilink rear suspension and decent CKD quality. Polo has much more localistation.

Completely agree. In fact, sparingly used and pre-worshipped Laura TSIs from 2011/2 model years are available at 5-6 Lakhs and may be a better option. They also offer customization potential without fear of warranty loss.

I for one have a slightly different view here!

Whilst most people are welcoming the Manual transmission openely, I am of the opinion that both manual and DSG should be options!

1) Because the same engine is offered with DSG right now in the Octavia!

2) For enthusiasts the manual can be an option

Probably a few months ago i would ve still stuck with the manual option, but given that our traffic is not improving and having driven the 1.2Tsi with the DSG you realise the benefits of the automatic triptonic!

And Fiat has started testing it's C635 dual clutch and six speed manual transmission. Fiat's Kevin told unofficially to the journalists at BIC event that 180 bhp Abarth Punto will follow. So with the first round of Polo GT vs Abarth Punto over, its time for the second round; Polo Gti vs Abarth Punto SS. Thank God at last something good is happening in the Indian automotive scene.
