- Irrespective of the BHP, Torque, 0-100 timings, etc, if you are a person who basically waits for your pay check every month, 5 out of 7 days will get you nowhere in terms of driving pleasure.

...

- No matter how much potential the car/engine has, >7 out of 10 buyers of such performance hatches will extract >50% of its real capabilities more often than not.

The point I am trying to convey here is that like the others on this thread, I really appreciate and applaud FIAT & VW's efforts in even considering launching such hot hatches. At the end of the day, if I and 4 other friends of mine bought these 2 hot hatches some day:

Our work, family obligations, miscellaneous stuffs will take precedence over us enjoying driving these beauties most of the weekends

P.S - I give a grand solute to these 2 car makers just for being brave enough to cater to Class along with their usual Mass offerings.
One point of agreement: Yes, I salute FIAT and VW for bringing enthusiast oriented cars into the market, and not doing market analysis like the typical textbook MBA manager.

One point of disagreement: No, it is fully possible to have fun driving home-office-home. See this post http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offici...ml#post1698324, with the quote from @GTO "... making the Figo one of the rare cars that you can have fun driving at <80 kph speeds". I have owned the Figo from the past 5 years, and this car gives me a HUGE reason to not hate the typical Bangalore B2B grind too much.
So, if the Polo GTi can offer this type of fun, all of us enthusiasts who wait for the paycheck at the end of the month will still get driving pleasure during 'those' 5 days.

I have read that it will be launched at the Auto Expo along with the compact sedan in February.

Carwale says Polo GTI launch in March 2016.

Quote:
The Polo GTI will be powered by the 1.8-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine producing 177bhp and 250Nm of torque. This is the same engine that is currently used in the Skoda Octavia and the Audi A3. While globally the car is available with the option of both the manual and automatic transmissions, we in India will only get the seven-speed DSGP automatic powering the front wheels.

And down the drain goes my excitement.

Carwale just uploaded an article that it may cost upwards of 20L. :(

An approximate 15L on road difference between the TSI and GTI will be too much to swallow.

My source had too told me a price bracket of above 18 lakhs! The car will then be obviously dead on arrival, but my source had also mentioned the car would be available only in limited numbers, So VW knows it won't sell like hot cakes.

At 20lac+ Ex Showroom, Why would someone buy a 177bhp Automatic Polo for more than what one would pay for the exact same engine & gearbox in an Octavia?

It would be like VW would purposely want it to fail! Or maybe they want to divert some sales to the Octavia TSI AT, showing us how much more VFM that one is.

The price mentioned here would be more acceptable on a Golf with a similar engine. It is nothing but wishful thinking on the part of VW when it comes to Polo.

May be because hot hatch sounds way more cool than hot sedan.

But yes I agree with you. With not much power to weight deficit, the Octavia makes much more sense and you get a lot more for your money.

I still would wait to see if by any rarest of rare chances they price it somewhere close to 15L.

Oh, great!

Of course, I know about the biases against hatchbacks, but I think that is getting less in recent years. A Golf with a decent engine would be, in my humble opinion, the car for the enthusiast who needs room for the family. Assuming, of course, that they are still prepared to buy VW

Once the Diesel-gate is behind us all, would that be an issue? The mini-sedan (sub 4 mtr) v/s hatch/notch will blur to an extent, that the a well priced Golf, can be a segment definer.
