Big thanks to BHPian kanuj for sharing these latest spy shots of the all-new 2017 Verna with us.

Quote:
Took these shots at Okhla Road in Delhi a few minutes back. Looks like the facelifted Verna.

I couldn't get any shots from the front as the driver kept picking up speed to avoid me. He finally stopped after the Okhla barrage to let me pass him at which point I stopped and asked him point blank if this was the new Verna. He smiled and said that he didn't know. I asked him if this was an Indian brand and when was it releasing. He confirmed that it's an Indian brand and it is supposed to launch in August.

I hope Hyundai doesn't eliminate SX(O) variant from its AT line up with the launch of 2017 Verna.

The 2017 Verna has been caught up-close and spied inside out at Gurgaon by a Mr.Car India reader.

The problem with the new Verna is that it isn't awaited with baited breath like the current generation one ! I remember when Sidindica put up pictures of the previous generation one when it was spied without camouflage, most of us were posting and drooling in minutes. The new one will probably be a more improved car with enhanced features but it misses out on the fluidic brilliance. An ICE that mirrors your phone, navigation and sunroof are no longer segment firsts. The previous generation brought in a camera & bluetooth telephony as standard features, a first for its time.

Well said. I might even say that it already looks dated before launch, because it looks like the previous generation.

This evolutionary policy works for hot selling models- like the Swift, for example. But Verna has been struggling against the new City and Ciaz, it's hard to revive it now with such a mild evolutionary design change.

I saw the camouflaged/ covered Verna being tested at 100+ kmph speed around Delhi border (Narela) on Saturday night (I was traveling with family to hills). The car looked wider & seemingly was handling reasonably well (for company which is criticised for cars with poor handling), with no pitching or bobbing.

The tail light design seemed beautiful to me.

What to expect from the all-new, next-gen 2017 Verna in India, as per ACI:

Quote:
The 2018 Verna will get a 10mm increase in wheelbase resulting in an overall 15mm increase in length. A bigger addition comes in width, which grows by 29mm. Despite the increased dimensions, weight has gone up by just 10 kilos. Boot space too is up by 16 litres, thanks to the added width.

The new Verna will get an updated chassis rather than an all-new setup. Hyundai claims higher use of advanced high-strength steel, 54.5 percent compared with 41.5 percent in the outgoing model. Torsional rigidity has risen by a significant 32 percent, thanks to additional use of structural adhesives. Hyundai says the updated chassis also results in better noise isolation. Suspension developments have been made with the focus on better ride comfort as well as improved handling and stability. Finally, Hyundai also claims efforts have been made to improve the steering feel. The current Verna AT models make do with an outdated four-speed automatic but we expect the new car to feature the six-speed torque converter automatic from the Elantra. This gearbox isn’t quite at dual clutch levels of performance but is considerably smoother and quicker than the old four-speeder.

The Verna is the latest Hyundai to feature the company’s cascading grille design and it pulls it off well with its long bonnet and pulled back headlamps. The roofline drops in a clean line similar to the outgoing car but the tail section gets new lamps that look like sleeker versions of the new Xcent’s lamps.

Is it just me or anyone here also feels that there is a stagnation in Hyundai's designs? Every new product seems to be more of the same. Hyundai is also no longer the leader in terms of offering features/equipment. IMO, it is just turning out to be a slightly more premium Maruti!!

Agree! Hyundai's designs aren't classics at all and they sort of strike you at first and then later start looking the same. The new Verna doesn't carry any distinctly different design element compared to the current one and will blend well with the City / Ciaz.

Spotted testing in Chennai by a Motorbeam reader.

Quote:
The test mule spotted is probably a mid-level variant as it has steel wheels with a wheel cap in place of alloy wheels. The car we spotted the last time had alloy wheels. In spite of being camouflaged, the Verna did reveal some details. For instance, the headlamps housed LED DRLs and the shape of the headlamps is more like the ones seen on the Elantra. While the side remains largely unchanged, the rear gets wrap-around LED taillamps like the ones on the Elite i20 and the Elantra.

Going by the recent trend in Hyundai launches, I just hope they don't mess up the variants and features offered with Verna facelift.

Current SX(O) variant has the best line up of features+safety to go with competent engines in the segment and thankfully SX(O) variant is available in petrol. I just hope they don't neglect the petrol buyer again as they have been doing recently.
