To be based on based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-A platform, the same that underpins the Renault Kwid, the I2 will be a similarly sized compact crossover, or a micro-SUV. In all probability, the I2 will be manufactured in India first, and exported to other emerging markets around the world.

Following a teaser of the headlamp, Datsun has finally revealed the Datsun GO-Cross Concept at Nissanís global headquarters during the Tokyo Motor Show 2015. For now, Datsun has not green lit the production of the GO-Cross.
This would be the redi-go I guess

Looks stunning. But I am worried about the production version. This looks like a 7 seater to me as per datsun standards. If they make this a proper 5 seater with a diesel engine. Then its a winner for sure.

Looks stunning in the images... and then they will go right ahead and put a puny 1.2L engine in it, if not smaller. Redi Go - going no where!!
I really hope they dont skimp on engine size/power and features. But before that let them build a dealer network.

The car surely looks stunning. But as many previous launches, by the time India specific production version would be ready, it would look like just another car.
Did someone notice that Door handles look absent but are actually concealed. Surely Looks unique.

I don't understand the logic of showing a beautiful concept & a horrible production version.

In my opinion, shouldn't it be the other way round. Not a horrible concept per se, but a realistic concept & a little better than concept actual production version?

Datsun should push hard & try to actually produce this concept as is for the best returns!

Agreed!
But will they give that headlamps, and the large grill?
If you replace them with the traditional Go headlamps & the smaller grill, the image will look may be same as the OP!
Apart from that, since it is a Cross, they should also experiment with colours. Colours such as White, Silver, Grey, Black, Blue, Red will not catch attention as a Mini crossover. They should experiment with colours. Why not offer 6 completely new colours?
Because customers for Crossover (with the plastic cladding, roof-rails, and excessive makeup) are unlikely to prefer traditional white or silver colour!

That is because the product designers dream up fantasies on a concept and that is the idea of the company too. The flashy concept keeps the imagination of the general public going and they long to see the actual product which they might dream to own. But when it comes to actual manufacturing, all the fantasies are out of the window as the methods to manufacture a particular feature is either expensive, slow repeatability and may be the technology does not exist yet to be able to produce the parts. And of course plain buffoonery by the companies on the masses.

Agreed, but the point is, as a brand, showcasing the designer fantasies as a concept will lead to a disappointment in expectation.

Instead, if a toned down concept is showcased as an upcoming announcement, with later an improved production version is launched, it can help better sales since people will anticipate a realistic version. Currently, well all know in advance that a toned down version is coming up.

The concept looks stunning as others have noted!

IMO there is nothing wrong with Designers and the Company to go and set a target for themselves in terms of how the car would look. It acts as a driver for those in the production and other internal departments. It also gives media something to write about the brand and maintain a recall for the general public. Had they brought a lackluster concept, we would be complaining that the company has no imagination and can't be expected to make good cars.

But in the end, concepts are not bought by the public but the actual cars are so it is in the interest of the company to make good cars. Being close to the concept would be great but moving away from it and still making a good end product that sells is what matters.

Datsun GO-Cross to make its India debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Built on the GO+ , thus shares some of its styling element too with the latter.

With all this "to do" about CUV's and so on, I think that by the time many of these arrive in the real world, the market would already be shifting away and back to the normal car type vehicles.

For example, the CUV type vehicle, was a requirement that some of us had clearly outlined as early as 2005. But it has taken 10 years for these vehicles to come through.

All these CUV's look great no doubt, but clearly most of these are a case of "form" over "function" - I guess that's what most Indian car buyers want...

Stunning looks. Not sure how much of this is going to see the light in the production version. Based on the pictures doesn't look like a sub compact (read sub 4 M). Any idea if it will be so or not?

Indian market wants something different. Roads were filled with hatchbacks and sedans were too expensive for many. Thus CS class came into being, ugly backsides and all. Now sedans and hatchbacks have become too common and SUVs are too expensive. In comes the SUV wannabe crossovers, SUV lookalikes and so on.

Compact sedans have run riot for quite some time now. With the Kwid, tiny SUV-looking cars are the new fad. Redi-GO, Ignis to jump in soon. Wonder how long before people get tired of this trend. And once they do, what next?

A late entrant to the party will be Nissan's GO Cross in 2019- the market dynamics would have changed and this could be like any Datsun's GO products relative to sales volumes!

The Datsun GO Cross, codenamed EM2, is expected to hit the road in 2019 with a price tag of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, the same as the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
