The rear 3/4 looks the BEST. The side profile is whacky!

The top variant K8 gets below as additional
  1. Puddle lamps on all doors
  2. DRLs
  3. Fog lamps
  4. Silver accents on rear door handles
  5. Alloy wheels
  6. Micro hybrid technology
  7. ISOFIX for child seats
Otherwise, even K4 looks decently loaded.

The KUV 100 looks very impressive.

Stand out styling, decent interiors, SUV Stance, refined engines, loaded with features & 6 seater layout at a very aggressive price. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.
The one trick M&M might have missed is the comparatively low ground clearance of 170 mm. I have heard from a lot of people who face bad roads, water logging etc who are looking out for high ground clearance cars. Despite positioning this as an SUV I wonder why M&M gave it such low ground clearance.
Apart from this an excellent launch & shows that Mahindra not only gets the pulse of the market but innovation is also burning strong

I expected a much lower price. Well, if I am in the market with 8 lakhs, I will buy a much more refined 4-cylinder car rather than buying a pseudo suv!

I'm going to be a little blunt here. The KUV1OO looks really ugly. Quirky from all angles. Too many styling elements; creases, cuts, swoops everywhere.

The empty expanse on the front below the Mahindra logo stands out. Then the squared off wheel arches. The 2 swoop cuts on front and back are akin to the Beat's but more pronounced. The wipers are not hidden neatly but stick out a lot. The rear looks too busy with the beat style door handles and ends abruptly.

I'm not even going to talk about the interiors with the gear lever and middle front seat.

I think Mahindra tried too hard to stand out and pretty much used all design elements in some book on car design.

Only solace I can see is the darker colours like black which will hide a lot of these quirks and make it bearable.

All of a sudden the Ecosport is no longer the quirky one in the pack.

Compared to the KUV1OO, Tata's Zica is a beauty. I know it doesn't have the crossover styling, but it most likely will compete in the same price bracket just below the Hyundai Grand i10. Give me a regular hatch like the Zica over this anyday.

It somehow gives me the impression that the front and back belongs to 2 different cars. Somehow it lacks a cohesion in design which the TUV and to some extent even the XUV had. Maybe it will look better in metal.

Also Mahindra seems to have missed a trick or two on the pricing front too-price is on the higher side.

Moreover, there seems to be no cohesion between the front, middle and the rear designs. For example, the region where the Hood meets the A-Pillar looks particularly wierd.

Also, the egg shaped top (a.l.a. Ritz) is not helping the matters at all.

Absolutely, Zica is droolworthy in it's own right; when compared to this it is Porsche! (well that was too much, but you get the gist! )

Disappointed. @6.8 lakh polo diesel base ( not counting the discount) with twin airbag & 1500cc engine is much better option any day. Plenty of options are available in the market ~7 lakh with better ground clearance than 170mm.

Exactly what I was thinking. Zica is Disney Princess compared to this Shrek!
Looks like M&M is hell bent on creating a Frankenstein of sorts - copying and pasting from here and there. Cuts, creases, sharp corners, blunt corners, curves, straight lines - got it all covered boss! I mean just look at how the cladding meets the rear wheel arch -

And some M&M Design members says that this is an epitome of creativity..(Internal source) - i believe M&M believes cut & paste is also called creativity as what piece to put where also needs "Kalakari".
Its a real "Inspirational" design - design engineers are inspired by many other cars
What's with M&M and heights - front windshield & roof could have been tapered more !

1000 crores of cost for this project, ahemm well probably that's the reason Mr Mahindra chose his silicon valley scooter over this touted segment creator micro suv. God knows what's with that dash and innovative bench seats for 3 front passengers, and a messed up centre console. Well the tagline must be, Ugly inside weird outside

Looks are individual choice, however it seems out of proportion , the front half and the rear half.
IMO designers here started with a Cheetah front stance and ended up fitting a cats body behind it.

Just went to see the unveil of the KUV100 at the nearby Mahindra Showroom and I came back quite impressed.

The Design is not as quirky as I initially thought and it looks much better in flesh than in Pictures! The Fit, finish and Paint scheme is absolutely perfect and I must really commend Mahindra on the level of finesse that they have achieved in the KUV100 !
I was also able to do a detailed Test Drive of the Diesel version and will share my experience in the next post.
In this post, I am letting the pictures do the talking!

I had actually gone to the Mahindra Showroom with very low expectations from the KUV 100, given the quirky styling and the pictures that we had seen so far. The Sales head had invited me for the launch at the showroom and I reached there around 12:30. The car was finally unveiled at 1:30 (they kept it under wraps till then as they were waiting for their MD to come in and cut the cake and launch the car).
Anyway, when I saw the car (not SUV - it is like a hatch on steroids and does not look like an SUV), I was pleasantly surprised. The Fit finish and the paint quality is extremely good for this segment. Even the earlier challenge area for Mahindra which was the Interiors are vastly improved in the KUV100 and you can see in the pictures I posted above that the interiors are quite good in qulaity. There are some bits of shiny plastic which appear out of place, but the overall design and the colour scheme is quite pleasant. Most of the interiors are in a Greige (Grey+Beige) colour which will stand the test of time and also looks better and more spacious than blacks. The only design faux pas which I felt was the front dashboard, the top part of which is Light Grey colour and reflects the sun too much.
Seating and leg space in both the front and the rear benches is good and more than the Ecosport. Headroom is also good and better than the Ecosport. In this compact size, Mahindra have maximised the seating area and made it very comfortable, and the only area which has shrunk to a miniscule size is the boot space - there is hardly 150L boot space! That seems a little out of sync for its pseudo SUV positioning - when people go vacationing, they do need tons of space to load their luggage. We would surely be seeing tons of KUVs soon with Roof racks for storing the luggage, as there is no way that anyone could take the KUV for even a 3 day vacation with Family! This car is anyway targeted at the Young couples (without Kids) who have the rear bench vacant and all the luggage stuffed by folding the rear seats down! They thought maybe they might have a young kid, let's give them a tiny seat in the front bench! The middle front seat at best can accomodate a 5-6 year old kid and there is a two-point seat belt provided for the Child. However, this sort of seating is extremely risk and there is tremendous risk of life to the child (there is no cross restraint) and plus no airbag and also significant damage risk from the protruding gear shift from the console. Anyone buying the KUV - PLEASE DO NOT SEAT YOUR KIDS HERE! It is highly dangerous in the rare event of an accident.
The best utility of the bench seat in the front is that people on the heavier side will find both the driver seat and the passenger seat more spacious as it is quite flat and will give them more space compared to bucket seats. There are both seat options available as variants in the lineup.

One of the major concerns I had when I went to check out was the console mounted position of the gear shift. While this looks odd, it falls quickly to hand and one gets used to it very quickly. It also helps that the gear shift is short throw and very smooth. In my test drive of the diesel version for around 15 min, I got used to it very quickly and it slots in quite easily.
The engine response on the KUV100 is also linear and the engine is decently refined. It picks nicely even from low rpms and revs quite freely. The gear ratios also feel right and I did not find it struggling in any gear (I drove it till 90kmph in 5th Gear). The engine though only with 77bhp in Diesel, feels quite peppy and responsive and propels the KUV100 quite well.

The suspension is tightly sprung and does a good job at absorbing bumps and craters - it is well tuned and does not feel wallowy at all.

Overall I quite liked the package that Mahindra has dished out with the KUV and I foresee good success for the KUV at the price points that it has been launched. The only bugbear which might prove a fly in the soup for some people is the small boot space!

Out of all the colours in display I liked the Orange and Red best - they bring out the character of the car!

First ever Petrol Engine from M&M will be a gamble in terms of reliability.

Even though I could not find the weight of the car mentioned anywhere, the Petrol at 82hp & 115nm torque, it will be quite under powered, even assuming a weight at 1050kgs.

Also not mentioned anywhere are the number of cylinders but I guess this is a 3 cyl engine?

Edit: With a GC of merely 170mm, I would hardly call it a Mini SUV.
