That's a very interesting topic.

My colour choice is usually any light colour that does not blend in with the surroundings, so that other drivers can spot my car from a distance. Not red though, thanks! (though my wife had once owned and driven a red SS80, over 10 years ago).

Shades of white are generally what I prefer. Keeps the car cool in summer, easier to match shade when touching up, though requires too much effort to maintain in sparkling clean condition (I've given up on that lately, and I can live with a duller white than what came from the showroom. )

The world over, coveted colours are silver and black - I've never owned any car in either of those shades, and don't plan to if I can avoid it.

One and the only answer in influencing the color: WIFE!

Over the time, Have got bored of the usual black, White, Silver, The more unique colours attract me (Also my family) more now, And hence was the decision to get the Jetta in the Tempest metallic blue colour and the New age Xuv in the sunset orange.

Voted for the second option.

'Any Other'

Depends on which colour the vehicle looks best, to my eyes.

I chose the white over the other two options I had (rather unfortunate that the GT does not come in that delicious dark blue) because Carbon Steel (grey) was just okay, and the Flash Red, although great, isn't something I'd want to be seen driving in, into Court. :P

Ease of maintenance. Mainly.

I'll try to stick to white because
a) Its easy to match incase of a scratch
b) Looks stately for most large cars

If its a small car, then I'll try sticking to Orange if possible, because :
a) Favourite colour since childhood but there were no cars in orange back then!
b) Its less likely to scrape if easily manuverable.
c) MOST Small white cars look like Taxi cabs.

Voted for the 2nd option - model to color suitability.
My preferred choice is silver, followed by grey. But I feel some shades work very well on specific models. For example, a red Golf GTI, or that blue shade on Octavia vRS.

By choice of color I understand the color I will buy, and that has to be based on ease of maintenance. Otherwise I am the man for dark blue. While the color I admire on another man's car depends on the overall build of the car. Certain models look best in certain colors.

I have voted for "Based on model to color suitability" since that is the main criteria.

But then most models have more than one suitable colors. So my other criteria is that if I have my car parked in a large parking lot (say 20 cars), it should be easily identifiable. Does not mean that it has to be a unique color, but one that is less seen on the roads. Due to this, my previous cars have all been dark colored. And I specifically veer away from silver and white.

I have voted for "Based on model to color suitability", as this is most important factor as far as my car selection goes.

However there are some other factors which can overwrite the above choice, like what are the existing car colors in garage, what is the color of recently owned/outgoing car, family members choice etc.

Voted for "Based on model to color suitability".

Personally I like the brighter colors because that usually means the vehicle is easier to notice than the popular colors. Familiarity breeds contempt as some say and kind of getting the feeling that it may be true with the abundance black, silver and white vehicles on the road these days.

My yellow Alto was so easy to find in the parking lots! So is my wife's purple Nano though of late this benefit is dwindling. Too many purple Nano's coming out!

While my personal favourite is black. Black though difficult to maintain looks attractive. I think it suits all types of cars be it a hatchback, sedan or a SUV/MPV. My family though is more inclined towards white. They think white is auspicious!

I would always go with what model I am buying.
For example-
If the car is a SUV or a MPV I would prefer more dull colors like silver/black/grey or more earthy ones like brown or dark green(if available).
Since SUV/MPV are mostly used for outstation trips they tend to get dirty easily. Baring the black the other colors can still help mask all the dirt till the car gets a wash.

For a sedan it would mostly be black. Or something bright like bright red (Vento red) or sport blue (old Fiesta). Depends on what kind of image the sedan has in market.

Haha, it is funny that Superstition didn't get any vote so far. In fact it should have led the poll. People first exclude all the superstitions colours, first black and then red. Then they apply all the other factors like aesthetics, maintainability, availability etc.

Online polls!

For me it would be the colour that best reflects sunlight so I've always gone with silver and white. Second criteria would be ease of maintenance. My favorite colour is black but I shudder to think of the amount of time and money I'd spend on washing and detailing. On Indian roads, scratches are something you have to put up with so I tend to avoid darker colours for that additional reason. My silver car spends more than enough time at the paint shop because I blow a fuse at the most minor of scratches.

For the previous generation, like our parents, their decision was governed by superstitions, like no black colored car. Also the ease of maintenance used to be equally important. Now, its all gone in our generation, but still the family decides the color. Atleast black is considered as an option to look at.
